HANNIBAL on NBC seems amazing and therefore deserves it's own thread!

I was at dinner today and mushrooms were served and I don't think I realized how much this episode affected me until then. I felt so ill.

I don't think it is a great series after 2 eps, but it is still early days and I like the aesthetic. Mads seems a bit on autopilot and maybe it should be a lot better, but it is still better than your average tv series right now. The human organ/food thing that is creeping in is very unsettling. If Dexter doesn't get it's act together this could be it's displacer.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Sunday, 14 April 2013 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

Dexter's sucked for years

I'm really liking this so far. Something about the cast and the combination of understated but effective horror (stuff like Will hallucinating the enormous stag in the hospital, or the semi-alive mushroom victim that they somehow refrained from staging with a big music sting and shock cut) and low-key ugh I hate this word but it fits "quirkiness" is really doing it for me. Are all of Fuller's shows this appealing?

Oh, and the breakfast scramble Hannibal was serving up in episode 2 looked amazing. Does that make me a bad person?

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Monday, 15 April 2013 04:22 (thirteen years ago)

On second viewing: the stag had mushrooms covering it?

I think so, but keep in mind that Hannibal is darker and less humorous than his previous shows. I would say Pushing Daisies would be the one to watch if you like Hannibal, although it is much goofier and sweeter.

Okay so NBC wasn't cool with dead children so they've skipped Episode 4 altogether (in other countries the whole episode will be online), but they've handily put up the scenes from it that are arc-heavy online so we're not all behind: http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/controversial-hannibal-episode-gets-sliced-into-webisodes

Because lol NBC

Gukbe, Thursday, 25 April 2013 21:13 (thirteen years ago)

It is ridiculous, already watched some web rips of ep 4 which don't contain any of the contentious plot and then into ep 5 where SA Will Graham is extra fucked up but we have missed out why he is more fucked up than usual. Silly NBC ....

Jason Dowd, Thursday, 25 April 2013 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

pilot was pretty good. i wonder if the 'following' people are watching and feeling embarrassed.

j., Thursday, 25 April 2013 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

they sure should be

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 25 April 2013 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

wow, didn't realize this was from the guy who created 'wonderfalls.' i rewatched that show last year and it still holds up.

Caroline Dhavernas is in this

Gukbe, Friday, 26 April 2013 00:37 (thirteen years ago)

I am still annoyed that they pulled ep 4. When it is just an ott fictional series about serial killers, someone in the USA is always going to be feeling raw about murder on any given week. This series is just starting to roll good as well, fucking NBC idiots.

Jason Dowd, Friday, 26 April 2013 01:32 (thirteen years ago)

i'm hopeful that a copy of the pulled ep will end up online, since they're reportedly not pulling it from overseas markets? of course, i don't know when these overseas markets will air it either.

a sentimental knife (reddening), Friday, 26 April 2013 01:52 (thirteen years ago)

oh, according to tumblr, the pulled ep airs next week (4/30) overseas. i might wait to download that and then watch tonight's.

a sentimental knife (reddening), Friday, 26 April 2013 02:11 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i'll just wait myself. apparently the pulled ep was one they didn't even screen for critics so i'm guessing they were already crazy squeamish and then the bombings tipped the scales. apparently no real plans to air in the us at all?

balls, Friday, 26 April 2013 02:15 (thirteen years ago)

according to that article i linked up there, Deadline reported that it was going to be pulled before the bombings. who knows? Maybe Molly Shannon isn't a good serial killer. I'll be fine with just watching the important serialized bits they put online.

Gukbe, Friday, 26 April 2013 04:41 (thirteen years ago)

this last episode was really grotesque. sort of can't believe they're showing things like this on network tv.

Chuck E was a hero to most (s.clover), Saturday, 27 April 2013 22:05 (thirteen years ago)

mackleless (latebloomer), Sunday, 28 April 2013 00:10 (thirteen years ago)

the unaired ep is now floating around online (doing a tumblr tag search for "hannibal" shows at least one d/l link).

mh, Monday, 29 April 2013 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

I think it's a con, not really leaked

mh, Monday, 29 April 2013 01:03 (thirteen years ago)

could be just the ~20 mins that were cut into webisodes?

Chuck E was a hero to most (s.clover), Monday, 29 April 2013 01:21 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, the torrents are just the "webisode" version ripped

mh, Monday, 29 April 2013 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

well it DOES exist somewhere, as my sister downloaded it and i've watched it. i'll ask her where she found it

a sentimental knife (reddening), Monday, 29 April 2013 05:10 (thirteen years ago)

here, i think this tumblr links to a streaming version, it's got subtitles but it's still got the english dialogue

a sentimental knife (reddening), Monday, 29 April 2013 05:13 (thirteen years ago)

hmm ok

mh, Monday, 29 April 2013 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

ahhh this show is so GROSS but i love it.

i need to rewatch the pilot because i don't really remember how hannibal came to be so intimately involved with all these people's lives. like, as far as i can tell everyone just seems to like hanging out with him? which is hilarious and charming actually, and it allows him to do boundary-pushing shit like check abigail out of the hospital and they just go "oh hannibal, you rapscallion."

a sentimental knife (reddening), Friday, 3 May 2013 06:43 (thirteen years ago)

He's presumably there to be Will's therapist but also report back to Crawford whether or not Will is suitable for field work. There was also the implication that Crawford thinks Will might be capable of murder, and Hannibal's supposed to alert him if that seems to be the case.

But yeah, the entire setup is pretty lolsy wolf-in-sheep's-den stuff

mh, Friday, 3 May 2013 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

I have a few days left of my free Hulu Plus trial, I'm gonna give this a try

*narrows eyes* it better be good

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 May 2013 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

Do it!

On a related note I am a little sad because it's been getting abysmal ratings and is likely to be cancelled. Otoh it is NBC so who knows.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Friday, 3 May 2013 20:03 (thirteen years ago)

They would be crazy to cancel it, especially as they commission garbage like Revolution. Oooh! We finally see Hannibal getting his hands dirty in ep 6 rather than it being manipulative controlling/implied/offscreen. This is def a series worth sticking with.

Jason Dowd, Friday, 3 May 2013 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

Even when an actor like Mikkelsson isn't at the top of his game he is still awesome, He has this sexy/ugly/dangerous aura that is very rare.

Jason Dowd, Friday, 3 May 2013 20:43 (thirteen years ago)

Show is still doing better than a lot of other Thursday 10pm shows in recent years. Also it's an international co-production so that helps with the costs.

Gukbe, Friday, 3 May 2013 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

tv by the numbers has it as cancelled (though it's been bouncing around), if nbc has any sense they'll stick w/ it for at least another season, seems like the kind of show that dvd release could help build word of mouth. if they had been smart they could've launched it during summer, release the dvd around halloween so it's out for xmas, then launch second season on the back of one of the voice nights in the spring. if this thing was on amc it'd be a hit.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 5 May 2013 03:53 (thirteen years ago)

yeah if hulu plus was remotely the service it should be i'd consider subscribing

balls, Sunday, 5 May 2013 03:54 (thirteen years ago)

yeah even with the free trial i'm like who the fuck would pay $7 a week for this nonsense

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 5 May 2013 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

It does have criterion

mh, Sunday, 5 May 2013 04:41 (thirteen years ago)

omg this show is actually about locavorism

j., Wednesday, 8 May 2013 05:21 (thirteen years ago)

Two episodes in, this is fucking ludicrous. But I think I kind of like it.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

Will Graham's always correct intuitive leaps are pretty hilarious.
