it was actually a pretty cool event. Speeches had to be under 140 characters. Hammer showed up. Shaq cameod via video. It was done in like 90 minutes.

Even the hip-hop artist MC Hammer, who arrived to present some awards, couldn't quiet the crowd down.

Please Hammer don't quiet the crowd down.

Are you shooting for 1000 on December 31st, or are you gonna finish up early?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 12 February 2009 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

I want to try to finish up two weeks early, so I'm not spending my xmas break twittering

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 12 February 2009 23:56 (seventeen years ago)

the double digits thing is funny.. but i think you mean triple!

how many listens do you give each album?

s1ocki, Thursday, 12 February 2009 23:58 (seventeen years ago)

Twitter is a fucking joke. I have friends who have it set up to send their feed to a livejournal post. WTF? So I get pages full of shit like

@fred lol I know its great isnt it?
I hate it when someone pees on a tram
@sheila you know it baby

And other such crap that MAKES NO SENSE OUT OF CONTEXT. Its like hearing half a conversation when some yapface is on their cellphone on the train. NOBODY CARES THAT YOU JUST ATE A FALAFEL THAT WAS A BIT ORDINARY.

Why do people feel the need to spew every tinym irrelevant ramble out into the universe?

Thats what mad homeless people do.

one art, please (Trayce), Friday, 13 February 2009 02:44 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I am genuinely unable to wrap my head around Twitter. Like, what sort of role does it play in people's lives? I guess I'm happy that these people no longer have a Twitter-shaped hole in their hearts, but... damn.

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Friday, 13 February 2009 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

Twitter is fine in isolation however people who link Twitter to Facebook LJ et al should be rogered as above

Objective Deployment Component for Failure Mode Effect Analysis (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 13 February 2009 02:58 (seventeen years ago)

I suppose in it's own setting it makes about as much sense as AIM or MSN. But yeah why feed it out elsewhere? Especially to blogs.

I'm just more depressed that people can't be bothered to write thoughtful coherent peices of writing any more. You do so and get tl;dr. The next generation are going to be brain-damaged monkeys who cant focus for longer than 10 seconds.

Sorry... seem to have caught a serious case of old, today.

does tumblr have a character limit? what makes it different from twitter aside from images/vids being embedded instead of linked?

I do mean triple! I didn't feel like correcting it.

I usually give them one listen. If I REALLY like something, I'll listen to it again to make sure I'm not tripping balls before I gush on it.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 13 February 2009 03:49 (seventeen years ago)

"Like, what sort of role does it play in people's lives? "

If I don't tweet then I have the shakes.

Hello, I'm Nathalie a twitaholic.

Srsly just something mindless if I have ten min to lose.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Friday, 13 February 2009 08:53 (seventeen years ago)

does tumblr have a character limit? what makes it different from twitter aside from images/vids being embedded instead of linked?

Lack of desktop/phone push clients would be the most obvious thing; that and the fact nobody's really jumped on the bandwagon ;)

Whiney: I've just remembered that I favourited a couple of your posts because they were things I wanted to check out ... Weird Owl, Mountains, These Are Powers and Emeralds. Should start to check some of those out.

Anyway. Witterings and swearing: https://twitter.com/weesimon

twitter makes sense when i'm drunk and on public transportation at the end of the night, wanting to catalog the weirdos around me (or in my head). i've only ever sent from text though because every time i encounter the WHAT ARE YOU DOING RIGHT NOW? screen at the computer all i can think is i am sitting at a computer, reading, and isn't that fascinating

So, erm, if you are following someone, but they're not following you, they CAN'T read what you have written, right?

Questionable Rock-Frog (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

If you're set to private they cant.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 00:26 (seventeen years ago)

If you've not blocked access and they go to your Twitter page, they can see everything.

"chinese coke prank" (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but why on earth would they go to my twitter page?

I wish there was a way to follow people without their knowing that you are. And also so people can't see that you are following them.

Though I'm just saying that because of the embarrassment factor... I'm sure that people would find a way to abuse that.
