maybe. i just think, as a general rule, i'm not a fan of his smug, sarcastic kind of humor. i watched an old interview he did with harmony korine recently and something about letterman's wry attitude toward korine's eccentricity rubbed me the wrong way, idk. also i, for what ever reason, pretty much always find myself rooting for lindsay lohan.

I think Lohan has more natural acting talent than Monroe did, but, like Monroe, her weakness is her inability to fake it. She feels she must be experiencing an emotion in order to play it. This leads to all sorts of emotional turmoil, not to mention on-set delays and melodrama. It also leads, when the gods smile, to movie magic. Monroe had the same affliction. They live large, both in life and on screen. This is an essential part of what draws viewers to them.

Lohan has outgrown her adolescent roles. All those cute all-American girls with the all-American names (Hallie Parker, Annie James, Anna Coleman, Cady Heron, Maggie Peyton), they’re gone. And in their place is another all-American type, the tough-talking, cigarette-smoking, streetwise girl, the blowsy blonde—Gena Rowlands, Ann-Margret, Shelley Winters, Angie Dickinson. Yet shining from within remains the little girl from the Disney films—a sweetness that makes the hard shell vibrate. Just like Marilyn.

I don't like how he seems to be saying Monroe wasn't serious about the craft of acting and instead "playacted" at it. Brando said Monroe was a committed and serious actress and that's good enough for me.

paul schrader directs! lindsay lohan stars! is hardly an appealing proposition, like you are suffering a lot just to test the guy's thesis.

this shows a p blunt misunderstanding of monroe's appeal, too. she is a lightbulb on screen, with terrific timing & presence; not sure if PS rests his claim on anything other than his movie but LL would have to be doing a lot to in some way exceed or equal monroe on screen

comparing LL to old school starlets, especially monroe, has been her m.o. for the last few years, schrader is just playing along. the sad thing is it just emphasizes how prematurely aged she is

This doesn't read to me as some indictment--it's an argument that abiding by the rules of the establishment, whether one believes in them or not, *is* the road to being taken seriously. He's not saying Marilyn was an unserious fake, he's saying she played the game one needed to play to be taken seriously.

around here, I presume those initials refer to La Lechera.

i enjoy pretending that LL references are directed at me, esp when they are talking about old school starlets, incarceration, or irrational behavior.

im sick of monroe complexes. i got over mine @ 17 which i assume is why im still alive

i don't know if i would have been able to hold up under the amount of public scrutiny and venom lohan received ever since she started having issues.
