The Year Without a Summer was an agricultural disaster. The unusual climatic aberrations of 1816 had the greatest effect on the northeastern United States, Atlantic Canada, and parts of western Europe. Typically, the late spring and summer of the northeastern U.S. and southeastern Canada are relatively stable: temperatures (average of both day and night) average about 68 °F (20 °C) and 77 °F (25 °C) and rarely fall below 41 °F (5 °C). Summer snow is an extreme rarity. oh wait is that docter pepper, hey broooo

In the spring and summer of 1816, a persistent "dry fog" was observed in the northeastern US. The fog reddened and dimmed the sunlight, such that sunspots were visible to the naked eye. Neither wind nor rainfall dispersed the "fog". It has been characterized as a stratospheric sulfate aerosol veil.[6]

no way, you're going to end up with a year without a spring or fall. It'll be snowing or 40 degrees for 3/4 of the year and 95 degrees and humid the rest

:(

I feel like this is what weather in MN was always like? There was maybe a week transition period where the temp was in the 60s and then suddenly BAM summer

Right. We're not even losing spring right now. We're losing summer.

cacao nibs (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:20 (thirteen years ago)

I'll be in town next weekend and I wouldn't mind it if the snow was washed away by then. So get to work.

The editor I worked for at my first job edited a middlegrade novel about a family on the frontier during the Year Without a Summer. Please note that I did not work on the jacket. Frozen Summer

So glad the Jesse Ventura Era in MN is over and done.

Aimless, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 02:20 (thirteen years ago)

Is he against gay marriage? Seems like he'd be for it. I mean, he's loathsome for lots of other reasons though

Dan I., Tuesday, 14 May 2013 02:24 (thirteen years ago)

Former pro wrestlers and Navy SEALs would seem to me to be very unpredictable on their attitudes to gay marriage.

Aimless, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

i think he's a civil unions only dude?

arby's, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 02:28 (thirteen years ago)

Jesse is pro gay marriage and he & his wife made TV spots for MN United in the campaign against the amendment that would have banned gay marriage

Jesse was not some big right winger, crazy but I'd take him over pawlenty any day

jay-z's ansari (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 02:30 (thirteen years ago)

this bit from his wiki is in character:

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, he reaffirmed his support of gay rights, including gay marriage and gays in the military, humorously stating he would've gladly served alongside homosexuals when he was in the Navy as they would've provided less competition for women.

Ventura said the issue is personal for him because when he was a professional wrestler he had a friend who was gay who had been with his partner for more than 20 years. When his friend's partner got sick, he was unable to be by his bedside because hospital rules allowed only spouses or next of kin.

"And because they are not allowed to be married, he's neither. That's cruel," he said.

Ventura said he believes the majority should not be able to make decisions about the civil rights of a minority.

"If you did that, we would still have slavery because the majority isn't going to think about the minority," he said. "You have to have politicians with courage, who will stand up and say this is a civil rights issue, and where do we get off that the government should decide who you should fall in love with and marry?"
