mister borges (darraghmac), Sunday, 17 March 2013 16:57 (thirteen years ago)

re: poch's team better/worse than adkins', they're def playing with more intensity and pressing higher up the pitch. we had a lot of possession under adkins but less of it was in the opponent's half. puncheon has been sidelined somewhat, perhaps cos he's less adept at the quick interplay and off-the-ball pressing that poch seems to want. otoh jrod has flourished.

overall i'd say performances prob have improved, but results haven't, or not much anyway, so....shrug emoticon.

I'd be walking like an ostrich after that

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

is there a gif of the winning goal? possibly the worst of the season, or indeed the entire premiership era

c'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le beurre (imago), Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, and what film was Oswald watching anyway?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

this gif doesn't include the preceding obvious handball by figueroa btw

c'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le beurre (imago), Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

what's the best thing about that goal

a) obvious handball in build-up

b) three people fall over

c) franco di santo takes one in the face for the cause

d) man on the line is all set to clear but charlton hero rob elliott intervenes, palming it directly onto kone's shin and in

c'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le beurre (imago), Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:28 (thirteen years ago)

I was gearing up to give you hard time but you're totally right, that's been unjustly overshadowed today.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

Worst thing about that goal, plus spurs turning into spurs, is that we still can't put this season to bed

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

just discovered gog.com has SWOS 96/97 available for mac w/the full original license (which includes all the accurate champions league, UEFA cup draws etc.)

lol that Wigan winner is a proper Saint & Greavsie goal of the month, isn't it

r|t|c, Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

i cant be bovd to start a thread but whats the most radge you've ever been after a game do you reckon cos i think yesterday was it for me (still fuming right now fyi)

i assume the irish will say henry handball so exempting that

r|t|c, Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:27 (thirteen years ago)

That'd be a good thread, do it.

France beating Portugal in the Euro 2000 semis. I dunno why I was so keen on Portugal to win, but I was arguing with anyone for days afterwards about the injustice. Look at Xavier's handball now and it's the most obvious thing ever, but somehow I convinced myself otherwise.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:31 (thirteen years ago)

you could call it Queen's Park Ragers

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

Nah mine'd be a spurs game forsure, likely one've the utd robberies but also have to consider the time we ended sunderland's 17 game winless streak

mister borges (darraghmac), Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

No wait the 5-4 arsenal game, played them off the park but 3 of their goals were incredible doherty/gardner/clemence howlers, i threw my guitar into the fire and swept the coffee table mugs and all, but tbrr i had a lot goin on that year

mister borges (darraghmac), Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:36 (thirteen years ago)

probably something from when I was a kid tbh - first thing that came to mind was Feyenoord putting Spurs out of the CWC in 1992. just fucking look at Paul Allen here I ask you

You must have been working hard to blind yourself to reality. iirc at the time, the commentary team were basically saying that he was being a complete tit for complaining so much and fooling his team mates into thinking there had been some kind of massive mistake by the referee, and that they'd be pissed off with him once they had seen it on TV.

the company of wome (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 17 March 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will have been happy with the victory, but he will question his team's defence after an astonishing game.

wonder who wrote the bbc report on the 5-4

r|t|c, Monday, 18 March 2013 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

Maradona - hand of God

did england play well in that game though? cos that would justify the butthurtness

Old Boy In Network (Michael B), Monday, 18 March 2013 01:59 (thirteen years ago)

can't believe some of the excuses i'm seeing for c mcmanaman, how do you plant your foot on someone's knee without malicious intent ffs

r|t|c, Monday, 18 March 2013 09:26 (thirteen years ago)

re Adebayor I know the formula ["how he always behaves, just ask fans of xyz"] is familiar

but he really is a liability. He looks worse than Crouch or some other awful striker with no touch, commitment, control, finishing whom I cannot remember.

Defoe is still a good and better player despite his foibles.

the pinefox, Monday, 18 March 2013 09:39 (thirteen years ago)

McManaman is verging on life ban territory imo

poking pocong (Noodle Vague), Monday, 18 March 2013 09:59 (thirteen years ago)

I hate that youthful exuberance gets used as an excuse - don't people remember how many nasty cunts they went to school with and what proportion of them were in the school team?

Habemus mundissimo ostentus nomen (onimo), Monday, 18 March 2013 10:06 (thirteen years ago)

That is a good statement.

the pinefox, Monday, 18 March 2013 10:11 (thirteen years ago)

Hi pf

adebayor is less use than crouch- agreed. Dear god that's bleak written out like that.

mister borges (darraghmac), Monday, 18 March 2013 10:52 (thirteen years ago)

xxxxp Acestream is the shizzle. Wiziwig has got a decent tutorial on how to install it. Worked first time for me.

give me back my 200 dollars (NotEnough), Monday, 18 March 2013 11:02 (thirteen years ago)

carroll can stand there and do nothing and still be more effective than crouch, whose only useful characteristic that i can recall is his ability to stand behind the goal and have air shot up his arse whenever there's a goal

Was searching for a different Crouch quote but I'll settle for this one.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 18 March 2013 11:16 (thirteen years ago)

cheers xp

mister borges (darraghmac), Monday, 18 March 2013 11:20 (thirteen years ago)

even if crouch and ade did the exact same things it must be so much more of a bummer working with the potentially unplayable guy who clearly just cannot be fucked

r|t|c, Monday, 18 March 2013 12:14 (thirteen years ago)

acestream has been spotty for me fwiw but looking at that tutorial seems i could have done with bumping up the buffer settings as advised

quite like the shittyness of nutjob feeds tho tbh, bloodzeed quality can seem so vulgar

r|t|c, Monday, 18 March 2013 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

is it time to discuss pardew's beard yet

i mean he's clearly not a ~beard man~, one to take pride in the clean-shaven jawlines of straight talking management "professionalism", so this mutation into philbrownism is of psychological interest

is he feeling less in control and more like a babysitter for the french lads now you have to wonder

r|t|c, Monday, 18 March 2013 12:30 (thirteen years ago)

or indeed has he caught sight of how age is softening his features to that of a kindly old granny and this is his failing bid to re-alpha

r|t|c, Monday, 18 March 2013 12:33 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah re-alph, i would maybe burrow deeper and see if any of the francaises have geographical links or similar to the cité of limoux and the surrounding mountains, perhaps pardieu googled in a chummy getting to connaitre les lads fashion and happened upon yr cave drawings, sparking a crisis of intricate but catastrophic synaptic flares that can only lead to a startling regression from alan pardieu, smooth chinned and suited head of marketing and strategy at le tûne thru bearded alan pardew the coach (villa) to scruffy al what helps the kids (notts county) to neanderth-al in a loincloth (tactics at stoke obv)

mister borges (darraghmac), Monday, 18 March 2013 13:06 (thirteen years ago)

Pardew seems to be going quite strongly for the aged action hero look. Definite Harrison Ford vibes.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Monday, 18 March 2013 13:26 (thirteen years ago)

struck me as an attempt at post-mourinho euro manager chic in the face of being yet another english struggle manager

r|t|c, Tuesday, 19 March 2013 00:57 (thirteen years ago)
