Lots of celebs come to Martha's Vineyard. I saw Michael J. Fox a couple of days ago. He was walking quickly and trying to hide among the group he was walking with.

A few summers ago I was walking on a nature trail in the woods and David Letterman passed me on the trail.

Years ago I waited tables at the airport restaurant. My first day both Lou Reed and Spike Lee came in for coffee.

And then of course there are Clinton, Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Mike Wallace, Ted Kennedy, Mary Steenbergen and the other celebs who vacation here - seen them around.

Eubanks again the other weekend, driving his Hummer through the busiest part of town in the middle of Saturday, tinted windows rolled right down... how's anyone going to see him otherwise?

I really want to blab about who I'm supposedly sitting next to at a wedding this coming weekend, but ought to really not say anything, goddammit. But I saw the seating plan on Saturday for the chapel and my stomach did a fucking barrel roll. Fuck, I'm a nervous wreck today.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 4 July 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

roy moller... primark

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Tariq Ali! In Camden! This combined with the fact that one of my friends had met and had a good old natter with Robert Wyatt the day before leads me to believe THE REVOLUTION IS BACK ON!

On Thursday, at Whole Foods on my way to Fort Reno to see the Evens (Ian MacKaye's new band), I belatedly realized that the gray-haired guy in front of me buying iced tea was Henry Rollins. (Not that I had anything I wanted to say to him.)

When I got to the park, I flopped down on an empty patch of grass. Turns out the people about eight feet away from me were the nucleus of the Dischord "VIP section." Before I finished my dinner and scooted out of the group's way, I heard Henry and Ian bantering about "pizza that keeps it real."

Embarrassed, wishing I had a friend with me to whom I could talk, and feeling too socially inept to strike up a conversation with anyone I didn't know, I moved to another part of the park. Then I spot ten feet away from my new seat Greg Dulli, presumably in town for July 4th, with a group of people. (I also had nothing to say to him. He doesn't seem to have spoken with any of the Dischord set that evening.)

Later, as the Evens take the stage, I spot Guy Picciotto. He seems to have stayed away from the Dischord set all evening. And then finally I saw Ian Svenonius, but he turns up at everything, usually about 15 minutes before the end.

I saw Lindsay again last thursday comparing sidekicks with Eva Mendes at the Roosevelt. They both looked great. Nick Stahl was also in their little VIP corner. Kirsten Dunst was also there but was definitely not hanging out with them (not that she should or would, but celebs often stick together for moral support or something). On another night there I saw Michael Vartan (sp?) - the girls I was with were very excited and said that he is HOTT and has sad eyes (his ex had just married Ben Affleck earlier in the day, but they said his eyes are always like that).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 4 July 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

NickB, you are a tease. Can't you give us some sort of cryptic clue?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 4 July 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 8 July 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Friday, 8 July 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of redheads, interviewed Jean Butler (from Riverdance, Irish dance fame) a week or so ago. Achingly beautiful in person.

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Friday, 8 July 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

here's a weird one. i saw ian mcewan just by warren st tube station on wednesday evening.

and here's ian in today's guardian:

"The mood of a city has never swung so sharply. On Wednesday there was no better place on earth. After the victory in Singapore, Londoners were celebrating the prospect of an explosion of new energy and creativity; those computer-generated images of futuristic wonderlands rising out of derelict quarters and poisoned industrial wastelands were actually going to be built."

and then:

"But terror's war on us opened another front on Thursday morning. It announced itself with a howl of sirens from every quarter, and the oppressive drone of police helicopters. Along the Euston Road, by the new UCH - a green building rising above us like a giant surgeon in scrubs - thousands of people stood around watching ambulances filing nose to tail through the stalled traffic into the casualty department."

that UCH is just opposite warren st, and of course the most recent mcewan novel is set all around this area, and starts with an imagined terrorist attack.

Went to see Star Wars in Edinburgh last night. It was very quiet and I got there early so was sitting in the cinema on my own watching silent adverts when Fran and Dougie from Travis came in. Obviously still in town after the Live8 gig the night before. Exchanged a few words and they obviously didn't baulk at the food prices as I did given they were laden down with Cokes and hotdogs/popcorn.

Also last week my parents went to the blessing of my Uncle's wedding and David Soul showed up, went back to the house and stuff. Really nice guy apparently.

mms (mms), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

NICK B SPILL DEM BEANS

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

I saw Pink sitting at a sidewalk cafe in West Hollywood day before yesterday. Walked around the block, googled "pink" and "tattoo" and came up with a list of her tats. Positive ID on the bar code clearly visible on her neck. Otherwise, a surprisingly pretty, but non-celeb looking girl. Esp. for L.A.

I love Google.

EComplex (EComplex), Sunday, 10 July 2005 00:57 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

Outsider Enter Port City (sexyDancer), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Last Thursday night at the Hollywood Roosevelt: Nick, Jessica, Ashley, Wilmer (after the Dukes premiere apparently). Jessica is HOTT (but not really my type).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

xpost - i dunno. we think her young punk rocker-looking friend must be her "personal assistant."

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Wilmer ditched Lindsay for Ashlee?!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

I saw Michael Pitt at the MC5/Sun Ra/DJ Spooky Summerstage show. He's just a short skinny greaseball. I was surprised I even recognized him.

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 4 August 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

M1ke My3rs is on my friend's street hockey team. I went to see them play last Sunday and it was kind of odd. He's pretty good though, Canadian and all.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

i think i saw kate moss on archway road on saturday afternoon. it's not out of the question; on the other hand, i have been smoking a lot of crack recently.

N_RQ, Monday, 8 August 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

So can NickB tell us who was sitting next to him at this wedding now it's safely in the past???

I keep seeing Nick Cave [mainly in Waitrose] and Kevin Rowland [mainly in Infinity Foods] lately, I swear they are following me.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 August 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

M1ke My3rs is on my friend's street hockey team.

A friend of a friend is his personal assistant!

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 8 August 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

I had a face off with Gabriel Byrne on Berwick Street the other day. Him: ladyfriend underarm. Me: likewise. We realised one pairing would have to move out the way. He eyes bore through me for what seemed like eternity. I duly moved onto the road. He is a handsome devil.

Huey (Huey), Monday, 8 August 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

Were you anywhere near Boogaloo Enrique? That might make Moss-sense.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 8 August 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

indeed i was. so it *does* make sense. but possibly it was just an attractive brunette in shades.

N_RQ, Monday, 8 August 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

who smiled at me.

N_RQ, Monday, 8 August 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

So can NickB tell us who was sitting next to him at this wedding now it's safely in the past???

Err, N1gell4. Except she didn't sit opposite me, cos last minute seating malarkey scuppered it. Boo hiss drat!

NickB (NickB), Monday, 8 August 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

On Regent Street yesterday teatime I saw proceeding towards me in a slow but stately fashion Stephen "Inspector Blakey" Lewis as immortalised in this greatest ILx thread ever!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

I saw Pauline Quirk last night, near Covent Garden, with her little piggy eyes.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

i saw michael fielding at my friends' gig the other night. i was excited, but my companion totally took the wind out of my sails: "eh. he goes to everything."

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

Stewart Osborne will appreciate this, if no-one else does. Not only did I see T.V. Smith and Gaye Advert on Friday but they beat me in a pub quiz and I was later introduced to T.V. (as Tim) before I realised who he was, I never got introduced to Gaye, who is still a (very) fine figure of a woman!

When You Wore a Tulip (and I Had a Big Red Nose) (Dada), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

... but seeing Inspector "I'll 'ave you Butler" Blakey beats all!

When You Wore a Tulip (and I Had a Big Red Nose) (Dada), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

i saw a guy who looked a lot like the drummer from elastica wearing an old elastica t-shirt on oxford street yesterday.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

actually, not michael fielding. the other one - noel.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

.. methinks this is stretching the concept of celebrity to breaking point... thinner than an old Elastica t-shirt in fact (xpost)

When You Wore a Tulip (and I Had a Big Red Nose) (Dada), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

R0bert R3dford was in the cafeteria at work last month. He was sitting talking to Fr@nk R1ch. He looked good if weathered about the face, very slim, casual in a black tee and jeans.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

My wife claims to have seen John McCrirrick (sp?) in Maidenhead. Pre-outburst, obv.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

i saw leo fitzpatrick (aka telly from kids) outside the knitting factory lady sov show talking on his cellphone (i always seem to catch celebs mid-phone conversations for some reason)

In a remote corner of the empire.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

Tuesday I saw Bruc3 W!ll!s wearing white shorts t-shirt sneakers and baseball cap walking with a cute curly headed brunette girl next door type going into the same Soho boutique K4t3 M0ss or her double went into- L3g4cy.

Today when crossing Canal from Soho into Tribeca, I saw a tall sexy fullgrown woman walking a little dog while holding a silky parasol. She went under some scaffolding and closed the parasol and, even though she was wearing shades, I could see it was Dr Jean Grey, F4mk3 J4nss3n.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Noel Gallagher in New Quebec Street, Fitzrovia, looking around in wonder at his surroundings.

Tom Baker on Dean Street, just walking.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 17 October 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

The bloke who played Mark Fowler in Eastenders and Gabriel on the Bill (until last week) was in an offy on Muswell Hill Broadway buying beer and wine. He then got in some kind of SUV and drove off towards Hornsey. How exciting.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

I walked past the Pussy Cat Dolls, there were dozens of them (since their entourage all looked exactly like the actual Dolls) and they smelled like a drugstore.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

The bloke who played Mark Fowler in Eastenders and Gabriel on the Bill
