"Girls" is sort of like the Vampire Weekend circa 2008 of television in that you don't have to engage with it to enjoy talking about it or the backlash surrounding it.

"Girls" also gets a lot of flak because of misogyny.

tbf seinfeld does suck

Girls gets some flak for the same reason Lost In Translation did - when someone is perceived as being overly privileged (as Lena Dunham is and to some some extent the world of Girls), people care less about their petty problems.

Literally anyone making a television show is overly privileged

Pretty much all of those criticisms WERE leveled at Seinfeld. And trying to figure out the logic in Kramer is really missing the point.

Difficult watch but a good episode.

Like, for someone in Hannah's position, who wants to EXPERIENCE EVERYTHING and stuff, dabbling in OCD is just another experience to experiment with.

Idk, I think the OCD is portrayed pretty realistically. I do agree that it coming on so strong out of nowhere this late in the game did make it seem tacked-on, but tbf a lot of people do experience symptoms in waves & in response to triggers. Still, it would've been better if there had been some intimations of it (only one I can think of is dad at beginning of the series worrying that she's always been so anxious) beyond just general neurosis.

Also can't believe Charlie would bone Marnie after that atrocity.

yeah I agree that Hannah's ocd could have been hinted at, but I find her portrayal pretty realistic too. not really based on any personal experience, it just 'feels' kind of right somehow.

I had a vague memory of Hannah's OCD coming up in her big argument with Marnie, and I was right! "You've been crazy since middle school, when you had to masturbate eight times a night to 'stave off diseases of the mind and body'." Also, this argument is interesting having seen Marnie's trajectory this season. Also, INTENSE.
