think this is part of the dewmocracy promotion, which the united states enjoyed many years ago but is only now coming to canada, where we've had a very small range of mountain dew products to choose from. the four flavours available are: white out, supernova, code red, and voltage. i think code red is a proven winner and i'd welcome its introduction to the canadian market, but white out was an unexpected treat (it's available in the united states, although i've never seen it, and in japan), an overacidic citrus crispness that has an artificial flavour profile closer to what would be produced by dissolving a handful of sugarcubes in a bottle of fresca. also, it's white.
i'm not sure if passing its expiry date would harm it. it might be a bit flat. i'm a fan of the sticky flatness and brown sugary sort of character of expired coke zero.
― dylannn, Thursday, 18 April 2013 06:42 (thirteen years ago)
I learned once from Wikipedia™ that in Canada, soda that isn't brown can't have caffeine in it, so Mtn Dew is caffeine-free in Canada.
― HIGH-FIVES TO ALL MY COWORKERS AT THE QBERT SEX SWING (silby), Thursday, 18 April 2013 06:45 (thirteen years ago)
plz confirm/deny
no. i am going to explain this from memory so, if i have some facts wrong, forgive me.
mountain dew didn't have caffeine in its canadian product for a long time. they tried to put it in and couldn't get the recipe approved, because... yeah, something to do with cola having caffeine and nothing else having caffeine, except stuff labeled as an energy drink (like, ther was red bull in our 7-11 coolers while mountain dew still had no caffeine). mountain dew said it was necessary and was a flavour additive and should be allowed.
now, mountain dew has caffeine in it in canada.

― ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 18 April 2013 06:54 (thirteen years ago)
no, it did not. soda drinkers in canada found the rule a bit strange. the change was made quietly and i'm not sure anyone noticed except die hard mountain dew drinkers, which we have fewer of in canada.

I learned once from Wikipedia™ that in Canada, soda that isn't brown can't have caffeine in it
I don't think there's a law but in the UK caffeinated sodas are generally brown (plus Irn Bru but that's a category of its own) (plus energy drinks now but they come in distinctively-labelled cans rather than bottles)
so I was surprised when I went to the US and wanted a cold drink but since it was 10pm I didn't want to confuse my jetlagged bodyclock further with caffeine, so I bought an orange-flavoured soda rather than a Coke from the motel drinks machine, and then realised it was also caffeinated, as were all the other sodas in the machine
fruit-flavoured sodas are just not caffeinated here (Dr Pepper claims it is fruit-flavoured but it is a) brown b) mostly tastes of not-quite-cola so it doesn't count)

I found the white mountain dew!! I have been searching for non-diet Fresca for a v long time ever since they took Citra off the market like a decade and a half ago (they have Fanta Grapefruit which iirc is actually the same thing, but not available on the east coast, as well as a few other inferior bevs). It was very good but it had too much OG mtn dew taste for my liking. I could see myself buying it again though.
Also yeah 4mos expired wd be a v flat beverage.
― hoda nkotb (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 18 April 2013 16:58 (thirteen years ago)
I don't think there's a Fresca with actual sugar, is there? I thought it was always a nutrasweet beverage
