Ah, yeah. I think there's four or five nights with awesome gigs in the lead-up to my show on the 3rd, and I just can't do them all without fucking myself up.
― emil.y, Monday, 4 March 2013 13:28 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, you need to post up details of your gig btw

Cheers for that. For those unwilling to click away from ilx for even a second, it's Wednesday April 3rd at the Prince Albert, £4 advance, £5 otd. Ace Bushy Striptease are the headliners, and they're really fucking good lo-fi shamble-punks, if you like that sort of thing.

w00t! (will try to make that)
― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 17:55 (thirteen years ago)
Yay, another midweek 6am session. :S
― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 21:46 (thirteen years ago)
Argh. Actually, the band is trying to work out rehearsal dates, and it might be the case that I have to sack off Swans, and thus SwansFAP, in favour of getting a last-minute practice in. Being our first gig, I kind of think that has to take precedence. Might not be the case, but it's looking likely.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:29 (thirteen years ago)
Oh no, that cannot be!
― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:37 (thirteen years ago)
We want Swan FAP
lol

Excelsior!

Jabba Hands: I was wondering, do you mix? I’m always up for playing records with people. Also thinking about finding a venue with decks for a low key thing and would be good to have someone else to do it with.
― Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 9 March 2013 10:32 (thirteen years ago)
i don't! not in public anyway. but i would be very happy to come and listen to you play records at a low key thing...
― jabba hands, Saturday, 9 March 2013 16:09 (thirteen years ago)
Another quiz at the West Hill tomorrow, if anyone fancies it/is still allowed to.
― emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 14:18 (thirteen years ago)
Haha. Would love to, but may need to skip this months one. However, you never know.

Yeah, a few friends were on campus protesting. Been a bit skittish about that sort of stuff since the horrors of the '10 protests so didn't make it over myself.
― emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 15:39 (thirteen years ago)
managed to post this on the dj koze thread, ha
where should i eat before swans? never been to brighton before!
― Crackle Box, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:51 (thirteen years ago)
Are you a vegetarian/vegan? What's your price range? Pub grub, restaurant, or chippy?
― emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)
Soo many choices :D
― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 March 2013 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

Appreciate that, got kind of a queasy feeling myself seeing the police getting changed into their crash helmets and whatnot. Don't think that evolved into much of a situation though, but I didn't stick around for long after that. Good turnout, shame some poor bastard had all their files burnt.
― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:44 (thirteen years ago)
Eat everything not too bothered about price, nothing too fancy - won't have long. Amazing fish and chips type place if it exists?
― Crackle Box, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:22 (thirteen years ago)
Fish and chips is probably the thing I know least about here, as I don't like it that much. I know the Globe used to do a good pub meal version, but I'm pretty sure they've changed kitchen staff since then.
― emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:30 (thirteen years ago)
this is the place you want: http://www.bardsleys-fishandchips.co.uk/
― jabba hands, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:50 (thirteen years ago)
otherwise my usual recommendation is planet india, amazing veggie indian food in what feels a bit like someone's front room.
― jabba hands, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
Always preferred the chips at Bankers myself, but that's totally the wrong end of town.
Am probably up for pre-Swans fap & food if anyone else is interested. Trying to think what pubs do half-decent food in Kemptown.
― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 25 March 2013 18:56 (thirteen years ago)
Bardsley’s is really very good for fish, and the chips aren’t too shabby either, you can eat in too. I was away for a couple of years and thought it wasn’t that much better than the places I was going to up north, but I was surprised how good it was.
I’ve had some great food at Planet India in the past, but again not for a couple of years. Someone said it wasn’t that good recently, but I need to try it again myself.
Ginger Dig is probably too expensive for pre-gig food/drinks. Not sure at the moment what’s around that neck of the woods.
― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 March 2013 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
Ginger Dog.

Barley Mow

cheers, ginger dog looks nice, saw pics of fish and chips and remembered what a mistake that is most of the time!
rarely get to see the gf so we'll prob do a nice meal together before the gig. afterwards tho... does brighton have a pub/bar that's open late? extra points for good booze and music.
― Crackle Box, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 16:47 (thirteen years ago)
Wellll, West Hill is open pretty late, even midweek, music hit and miss depending on who’s in control. There are options.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 19:07 (thirteen years ago)
Are a few people going to Tenderhooks tomorrow? Should be back after my Welsh adventure and after a change from duf-duf-duf.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 31 March 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)
I mean hookworms. It's been a long weekend.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 31 March 2013 17:45 (thirteen years ago)
Planning on it, though I'm knackered from last night's gig and going to Bilge Pump tonight, so god knows if my ageing body can handle the full five nights in a row of music I'm supposed to be doing.
― emil.y, Sunday, 31 March 2013 18:34 (thirteen years ago)
can't make it to hookworms i'm afraid but did notice that resident had sold out of tickets for it. dunno if they'll have any left on the door or not...

― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Sunday, 31 March 2013 20:19 (thirteen years ago)
Ah, yeah, I heard our Stevie was back but I don't think I'd clocked when. Don't think I've heard any Supreme Dicks, will check them out.
― emil.y, Sunday, 31 March 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)
Err, feeling supremely ropey this morning and have only had a couple if hours sleep. I think yesterday's planning has gone awry already, and all I will be doing tonight is sleep.
― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 1 April 2013 06:38 (thirteen years ago)
I'm feeling pretty crappy too so gonna skip this one. A shame, as they are really great, but I need to be on reasonable form for Weds. Blargh.
― emil.y, Monday, 1 April 2013 18:32 (thirteen years ago)
Ya, you take it steady and hope yr feeling perkier come Wednesday.
Supreme Dicks are perhaps deservedly obscure, but they were originally around in the first part of the nineties and got lumped in with people like the Sun City Girls and Tower Recordings in that they shared that same loose and often rambling approach to making improvised rock music and with fairly nonsensical stream-of-consciousness lyrics to match. Unlike either of those two though, they never really incorporated exotic sounds at all, but just focused on dismantling psychedelic rock in a way that makes me think of them as direct descendents of the Red Crayola. Very slack sounding and somewhat folksy, not really big on tunes but they do okay anyway. Guess it's probably Dylan putting them on?

Grr, woke up with a head cold today. Let me know where you’re going to be before and I will try and make it for one at least.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 12:36 (thirteen years ago)
have any of you lot been involved in the Sussex protests? Seems like things are getting a bit hairy...
― a similar stunt failed to work with a cow (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 12:38 (thirteen years ago)
SWANS FAP: Can't remember what's good down that end of town so I'm going to aim for the Barley Mow at 7-ish if anyone fancies that...
Sussex protests: I'm a member of staff there and have been along to a couple of the protests. Last one I was at looked like it could have turned a bit iffy, but the police seemed mostly happy to observe. That was a week ago though, not sure what's going on now and I'm not on campus today. Has something else happened?
― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 14:36 (thirteen years ago)
Ah okay, have just seen that the police and bailiffs have closed down the occupation. Did think they might have timed that for today while campus was pretty much shut down for Easter with only a minimal staff presence and no students around.
― acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 14:41 (thirteen years ago)
xp "riot vans on campus earlier and various bits of electricity/lighting shut down around the building" from my source.
