☠ ☃ ☠ (mh), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 03:19 (thirteen years ago)

imma give this letterpress thing a go

I'm sd0ln4ck (un-googleproofed)

ICANN Tina Turner (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 03:28 (thirteen years ago)

can I just be annoying for a second and mention how confusing it is for a game to appropriate the term "letterpress"?

dan selzer, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 04:41 (thirteen years ago)

Apparently SHARTED is an approved word?!

ICANN Tina Turner (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 05:07 (thirteen years ago)

haha I just came to post how amazed I was when it accepted that

☠ ☃ ☠ (mh), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

imma SHART all over you in this game is what I'm gonna do

ICANN Tina Turner (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 05:10 (thirteen years ago)

It took me ages to realise you can use your opponents hard coloured letters, you just don't get any points for them. But I've since given up Letterpress - too many stalemates.

Madchen, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 07:35 (thirteen years ago)

otm. it took me about four days to realise that people who are losing either hedge ad infinitum or just quit altogether.

book itchy (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 07:49 (thirteen years ago)

prefer draw something, where literally nothing matters you're just drawing funny pictures w/ your friends

1staethyr, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 07:54 (thirteen years ago)

guess i'm a hippie

1staethyr, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 07:55 (thirteen years ago)

what's your favorite wikipedia client app, guys? I'm getting fed up with the official web app

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 09:29 (thirteen years ago)

wikipanion (free edition)

Wikipanion (Pro)

stet, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

i only recommend the free version because the value proposition for pro is a bit rubbish

book itchy (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

Wikipanion (Exclusive Platinum Reserve Limited Edition)

ledge, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

Looks like the big difference between the two is the queue, and honestly the queue is pretty killer. You can load up links to read later without getting totally lost.

stet, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 10:36 (thirteen years ago)

djp pwned me sooooo hard the other day at letterpress

also started another game with an ilxor whose first move was so devastating i doubt ill ever recover. that's the game's one flaw imo.

All of Wiki, because it's not just a client, it's the whole of Wikipedia (minus pictures) locally stored on your phone and that is amazing.

three weeks pass...

I forgot I installed Mailbox until this morning when I learned I can finally use it. Somehow I missed that it's gmail only though which renders it as useless to me as the actual gmail app.

i like this new thing http://forecast.io, which installs through safari and is v slick and has the info i need

caek, Friday, 5 April 2013 20:13 (thirteen years ago)

so sorry if this is a dumb question but: the wifi on my iphone doesn't work anymore due to unfortunate moisture contact, so now all texts are actually text messages instead of imessage messages, which means i'm running up against my text limits for the first time. are there any apps that will let me "text message" via 3G but without counting against my actual texts? i don't know how this would work. this is dumb.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 5 April 2013 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

iMessage doesn't need wifi to work, iirc. it will use normal data and not SMS to message anyone with an iPhone

I, rrational (mh), Friday, 5 April 2013 21:03 (thirteen years ago)

If iMessage isn't working for some random reason, you could always get a Google Voice number and use that app to send SMS

I, rrational (mh), Friday, 5 April 2013 21:04 (thirteen years ago)

is there a way to make "texts" only go through imessage and not shift over to text message ever? does that make sense?

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 5 April 2013 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

ah figured it out, nevermind. thanks!

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 5 April 2013 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

n/a, not a dumb question at all. Did you try looking in your settings just to make sure it didn't switch off iMessage for some reason?

Actual messaging apps that only use data:

Kik
What's App

And there is another one with a ocean/reef-type name but I don't remember its name at the moment. Beluga was good but got acquired by Facebook.

c21m50nh3x460n, Friday, 5 April 2013 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

no imessage was always working but i didn't want it to do the thing where it switches over to text when the message can't go through SMS for whatever reason - my wife has bad phone connection in her office and so that happens sometimes. but we only have 20 texts left for the next 12 days apparently.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 5 April 2013 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

Settings > Messages > Send as SMS controls that

stet, Friday, 5 April 2013 22:14 (thirteen years ago)

kind of sweet, this story of a struggling young couple trying to stretch 20 texts over 12 days - kind of thing you tell your kids someday

zero dark (s1ocki), Friday, 5 April 2013 22:15 (thirteen years ago)

i would

man im not sure im confortable w mailbox fucking w my gmail like this, but on the other hand im really into the idea of scheduling emails to show up later, dont know what to do

lag∞n, Monday, 15 April 2013 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

the gmail app seemed real slow and funky i deleted it

lag∞n, Monday, 15 April 2013 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

also like if you get in the flow of using mailbox then what do you do when youre using gmail webmail there is no scheduling option there

lag∞n, Monday, 15 April 2013 18:03 (thirteen years ago)

it is disgraceful that gmail app takes 15-20 seconds to load yr inbox and then usu shows you outdated inbox that you have to pull to refresh

hoda nkotb (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 15 April 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

email is easy just get messages and reply to them, why does everyone have to make such a big complicated mess of this

zero dark (s1ocki), Monday, 15 April 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

don't use mailbox

markers, Monday, 15 April 2013 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

Gmail app has been fast and reliable IME. It would be nice if it would snooze emails.

also like if you get in the flow of using mailbox then what do you do when youre using gmail webmail there is no scheduling option there

You can use Boomerang for scheduling when using Gmail on your computer.

Je55e, Monday, 15 April 2013 18:45 (thirteen years ago)

gmail app sucks on my ipad, it takes forever to refresh the inbox

Dr. Adorbius (mh), Monday, 15 April 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

乒乓, Monday, 15 April 2013 18:52 (thirteen years ago)

markers, Monday, 15 April 2013 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

I was very excited about Mailbox but am underwhelmed and deleted it.

The Great Forgiver (dandydonweiner), Monday, 15 April 2013 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

gmail app looks real nice and plays nicer w/ gmail than mail app does but dang is it slow and annoying, mailbox is way better

max, Monday, 15 April 2013 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

love the scheduling, unified inbox, gestures, its faster than gmail too
