Ok, I agree with you guys that it was gratuitous, but I have had female friendships where there was that kind of nbd intimacy. I liked it just in that it was a moment of two girls being totally comfortable around each other & also it showed Hannah actually being kind for a change.

Uh why are you sitting in this TV thing? Your character seems to have sense wtf are you doing with this idiot? You are being fired right now.

oh right tv thing
At first i took that Damien Hirst line as evidence she knew what she was talking about but apparently it's just something she knows to say in order to flirt with artists.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 February 2013 19:50 (thirteen years ago)
Sorry, i skipped 3 and 4 and am just catching up w them. Don't how much more I'll be watching this show. I'm sure there are plenty of shows of transgressive 20-something girls doing coke and dancing at a club. Cool that these characters are finding themselves and going thru trials and tribulations and stuff but maybe i am just too old for this show. It definitely sums up LIVING THROUGH YOUR 20s in that it's full of seemingly momentous exploratory stuff that really doesn't mean anything and that realization very very very slowly dawning on you.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 February 2013 19:55 (thirteen years ago)
xpost emilys: oh the moment itself, emotionally, was totally otm. it was just funny to me that it was in a bathtub.

Marnie seemed to enjoy texting her friend that she just had sex much more than the actual sex.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 February 2013 19:58 (thirteen years ago)
Eh, the next episode. This show is like watching people punch themselves.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 February 2013 20:28 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah isn't it great?
― Women, Fire, and Dangerous Zings (silby), Monday, 4 February 2013 20:29 (thirteen years ago)
No, I'm so glad I'm not in my 20s anymore.
This show is like, if i really still wanted to go out and hang out and make the scene and get involved in everyone's drama, and then have all these stories that i really don't care about illustrated visually. I'm sure if you are 25 or something, this show is like THE ZEITGEIST or something, but for me it's like being sober at a party where everyone else is drunk.

I feel like the people that will enjoy this show the most are the ones asking "What was that cool song at the end of the last episode? Wonderwall? Is that what it's called?"
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 February 2013 20:38 (thirteen years ago)
I don't get drunk and I hate parties but I still Identify with a lot of this show, especially the emotional drama and the self-sabotage. I'm not too far removed from those things, and college, and I'll probably find myself wrapped up in them again once I have more friends out here. Seems inevitable.
(Am 24 as a data point)

I was just saying the other night that the thing that strikes (and annoys) me most about this show is how damn dramatic every single person and thing is. I mean I remember being 25 and I don't ever remember it being like that. It's tiring just to watch! I'm not really fighter though. I don't know.
― go to party leather (ENBB), Monday, 4 February 2013 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
I stopped trying to watch it through a lens of 'oh this is being 25' becuase that made me v depressed and angry and confused--- I just enjoy it for the weird comedy and funny lines and occasional nice moments between characters
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 February 2013 20:56 (thirteen years ago)
Eh, found this ep a bit whiny -- they're starting to seem more like moodswingy late teens than 20somethings. Groffin Dunne was A+ though
― Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 4 February 2013 22:55 (thirteen years ago)
Not the first time Griffin's taken a gander at the wild side on New York City.

I loved the hell out of this ep
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 02:55 (thirteen years ago)
Based on a lot of the criticisms in this thread, I think maybe you need to be well into your late 30s/early 40s to enjoy this show on an emotionally distant level or something. I mean for me it's p much HA HA IDIOT HOLY SHIT I THINK I DID SOMETHING LIKE THAT ONCE type of level of enjoyment. If I was 10 years younger, I'm sure I'd hate this and the characters would remind me of dickheads/ex-girlfriends/whatever I'd run into from my not-so-distant past.
Or maybe I was just a crappy person at that age, too.... who knows
― Darin, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 03:13 (thirteen years ago)
the bit in this last episode about "andrew andrew" was amazing
― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 06:24 (thirteen years ago)
also i didn't realize that booth jonathan was dude from lonely island wtf, they somehow made him incredibly attractive? and he has a great ass, thank you based lena dunham
― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 06:25 (thirteen years ago)
booth jonahtan is a hilarious character btw
i find that lena is really good at lampooning self-involved art scene people like booth jonathan or "andrew andrew" (or even the editor of jazzhate) but not really so good at lampooning the average brooklyn resident (i.e. her or any of the core characters, except maybe marnie, i think she's a good character)
― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 06:27 (thirteen years ago)

Last time I saw Andrew Andrew they were using a Novation Twitch controller with a Macbook Air.
But they shot to fame, if I remember correctly, throwing the first iPod DJ parties at APT. The idea of a party where people can bring their iPods and play music was so novel there were articles about it in the New York Times. Or maybe it was the Village Voice. I don't remember, but they are very real.

Hm - the NYRB article is "pretty much the only essay on the show worth reading" [apart from the Atlantic article I filched my only good point from a few paragraphs ago]
― Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 16:05 (thirteen years ago)
Coates' was a brief thing, no? Either way I agree that dismissing all writing save one essay is dumb. She knows better. Still, I liked the article.
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)
I don't generally like Nussbaum's writing, but "Hannah Barbaric" is a funny headline.

Loved this line. The show is so good at creating laugh-out-loud moments in the middle of really fraught, combative scenes. And not even to defuse the tension, necessarily. People just say ridiculous things when they're arguing.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 16:44 (thirteen years ago)
that line might have been most i've "identified" w this show so far (i am 25)
