I went to the Outsider Art Fair thursday night and was looking at something and Jerry Saltz turned to face me and my girlfriend and started talking to us as if we'd been listening to his entire conversation. It was really weird.

i saw him do that to a few people at an opening at the whitney but assumed he just knew everyone in the room

It felt like he thought we were encroaching on his space because he's famous, or he thought we were somebody he knew. In fact I was just going around looking at the art and didn't notice he was there until he turned to face me, looked me in the eye, and started talking about some people I'd never heard of.

only THEN did we do the gawking when I was like "wait, wasn't that that guy?"

i like the notion of GIRLS as the bleaker, more nihilistic antidote to GAME OF THRONES but nah.

that said, if you needed to describe HBO Original Programming in three words, "horrible cruel fuckups" would do it admirably

(obv if you needed to do it in four words it would be "horrible cruel fuckups, boobs"

I don't know how you can "take pleasure" in something and find it "brilliantly funny" while being unable to relate to the characters or situation.

Well I suppose it's possible with something like dumb or dumber but not with a show like this. I don't see how you could laugh without relating.

Ok, I agree with you guys that it was gratuitous, but I have had female friendships where there was that kind of nbd intimacy. I liked it just in that it was a moment of two girls being totally comfortable around each other & also it showed Hannah actually being kind for a change.

At first i took that Damien Hirst line as evidence she knew what she was talking about but apparently it's just something she knows to say in order to flirt with artists.

Sorry, i skipped 3 and 4 and am just catching up w them. Don't how much more I'll be watching this show. I'm sure there are plenty of shows of transgressive 20-something girls doing coke and dancing at a club. Cool that these characters are finding themselves and going thru trials and tribulations and stuff but maybe i am just too old for this show. It definitely sums up LIVING THROUGH YOUR 20s in that it's full of seemingly momentous exploratory stuff that really doesn't mean anything and that realization very very very slowly dawning on you.

Marnie seemed to enjoy texting her friend that she just had sex much more than the actual sex.
