Heard any rumours about the Great Escape line-up btw?

Jaap and roids (NickB), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

I haven’t. I never bothered going to it before, was put off my industry queue-jump etc.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, the only bits of Great Escapes I've been to are when I've lucked out on a guestlist spot by having mates play. The line-ups are never good enough for the hassle.

I should be going to Swans, I think. I can't remember if the mister bought tickets already though.

emil.y, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

Never been before either! But every May I get sad when there are a bunch of bands playing here that I can't get to see (Gang Gang Dance and a few others in 2011, can't remember who played last year)

Jaap and roids (NickB), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 16:09 (thirteen years ago)

So I might eventually crack and buy a pass

Jaap and roids (NickB), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

Does anyone fancy escorting me to Ben UFO and Paul Woolford at Life on Friday 22nd?

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

This thread being bumped reminds me - I'll be in Brighton for the days surrounding the Swans gig in April if anyone fancies a meet-up.

dog latin, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 12:31 (thirteen years ago)

This sounds exciting:

i might go to that, altho all those seafront clubs give me the fear a bit

jabba hands, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 12:33 (thirteen years ago)

Haha Jabba, just close your eyes and forget about the idiots around you is my advice in most clubs.

DL, yeah I’m up for that, are you at Swans too?

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 12:53 (thirteen years ago)

yes indeed - it's my gf's birthday week and she loves it in Brighton so we'll be going down to meet a few mates and she's being dragged to see Swans in the process, although I'm not entirely sure she knows who they are. She likes gigs though, and the beach. If any Brightoneers fancy getting in touch my real name is Ch4rli3 Fr4m3 on FB.

dog latin, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 12:56 (thirteen years ago)

I think I’ve found the right one! Is this GF the same as when I met you at the Freebutt several years back?

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 13:09 (thirteen years ago)

Jabba, I’ve tried to send an email via ilx

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 13:17 (thirteen years ago)

no Chew, different - that was something like 8 years ago o_O i've had no friend request.

dog latin, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 14:21 (thirteen years ago)

OK.

I found someone with a dot between the two names after I replace the numbers with letters, so that’s not you? Can’t find another. Found you on the tweets though, and just followed you.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

weird. i should just be there - no dots or nothing.

dog latin, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

ah - emil.y - you know Noel P? I've known him from round our way for years.

dog latin, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

Cvpb04rd Mvs1c N0el? Yeah, he's a great dude.

We should have a FISU FAP at Northern Lights before Swans. Or maybe after, if we want to be sentient at the show.

emil.y, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 00:29 (thirteen years ago)

Sounds good. Yes, that Noel. Small world, he was a fellow promoter in Herts before he moved.

dog latin, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 01:29 (thirteen years ago)

Anyone fancy seeing Simon Munnery? http://www.theoldmarket.com/simon-munnery-fylm-makker/

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 9 February 2013 10:31 (thirteen years ago)

^ put me down as a possible on that, will get back to you (if yr still going)

dunno if anyone else is interested in a daytrip but editions mego are putting on a fantastic-looking avant-noise all-dayer at bexhill:

http://thequietus.com/articles/11360-editions-mego-all-dayer-bexhill-de-la-warr-pavilion

performances by fennesz, kevin drumm and bruce gilbert plus music by luc ferrari, bernard parmegiani, florian hecker and other folks

Jaap and roids (NickB), Monday, 11 February 2013 16:53 (thirteen years ago)

I’m sure it won’t sell out, so let me know and we can get tickets up to the night.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 11 February 2013 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

I’ll stick the Bexhill thing into the diary and provisionally agree!

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 11 February 2013 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

Good to see Mark Fell on that line-up.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 11 February 2013 17:53 (thirteen years ago)

You were asking about The Great Escape lineup?

http://brightonsource.co.uk/news/great-escape-line-up-announced/

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 11:08 (thirteen years ago)

hmmm, that doesn't look great does it? not sure i want to see any of that lot

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 14:11 (thirteen years ago)

I don’t even know who 95% of the line-up are, which suggests it’s not my thing at all.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

Well, it is meant to focus on new-ish music, being an industry "thing". But the ones I do know are pretty crap, too. Having said that, this always happens: it's utter shit right up until the last minute, when they announce a couple of great additions that I'd love to see but still won't be willing to buy a ticket for. And then I'll just be all grumpy for a bit, until I forget about it.

emil.y, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 15:10 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, it's usually small/unknown bands. last year Rhythms of the World sent a bunch of Hitchin acts up there to play.

dog latin, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

"down there", maybe I should say, if we're gonna get polarist about it.

dog latin, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

Also... you decided to call your band 'The Upskirts'? Really, guys?

emil.y, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

ha i saw that, is crepey-core a thing now?

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

Everyone go and see Charlie Straight!

Head Cheerleader, Homecoming Queen and part-time model (ShariVari), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

wer ist charlie straight?

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

They're a Britpop-influenced group from the Czech Republic who are much better than any British equivalents i can call to mind. They're one of the biggest bands in their region (and have won an MTV Europe award) so it's an unusual chance to see them in a much smaller venue. They're also unbelievably lovely. Might not be everyone's style but i think they're pretty great.

A friend of mine is playing at Westhill Community Centre on March 1st, I shall be attending. http://theexperimentalsoundingboard.tumblr.com/MARC1st

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 18 February 2013 17:17 (thirteen years ago)

Ooh, that sounds interesting. A little pricy seeing as I don't know who any of them are, but the mister's away that weekend so I need to find things to occupy myself, so maybe...

emil.y, Monday, 18 February 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

A little bit expensive I will agree. Ben UFO and Paul Woolford doing a 5-hour b2b this Friday at Life is only £5! I guess that will make most money on the bar though, do they even sell drinks at the WCC? I’ve never been there.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 18 February 2013 18:35 (thirteen years ago)

Totally read WCC as 'White Chocolate Cheesecake' there. Too much time on ilx.

But as for the Westhill Hall, nope they don't sell drinks, it's BYOB. Which I think is a plus point.

emil.y, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, and this:

Horrible story, must have been very distressing to have heard that going on. Was a young gothy gamer couple:

The brunette was rushed to hospital but died later.

WTF? That's terrible fucking writing, and actually quite offensive in its clumsiness.

emil.y, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 13:53 (thirteen years ago)

God yes I saw that, wtf

Aw man, they were ace. I think I got a little over-excited when they pulled out the Mute Synth, though. ^__^
