Ok, episode 4 is a bit redemptive. Very little Hannah, for one thing.

I really hope Booth Johnathon gets told in the next episode. I was starting to like Marnie, but, just, no.

lena dunham's worst sin in making 'girls' is getting that icona pop song stuck in my head

that is the one i'm talking about! i wasn't sure why it was floating around in the middle of the week, but i watched it + it's def one of the best episodes of the series. is it a leak?

sleepingbag, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

No, HBO released it to Go and On Demand early because of the Super Bowl on Sunday night.

Gotcha. In related news:

http://store.hbo.com/detail.php?p=433303&dm=true

Along with a new season, January 2013 brings an exciting partnership between Deborah Lippmann and HBO: a limited-edition set of four nail lacquers inspired by each of the GIRLS.
As always, Deborah’s nail colors are named after songs. With music being an emotional force of the show, the four shades are aptly named with song titles that symbolize each of the GIRLS’ distinct personalities. Independent, feminine, playful, sexy and of course complex - there is a color for every kind of mood. The collection is witty and empowering while celebrating the various dimensions of feminine identity.
Colors Include:
HANNAH: Hapless Hunter Green
MARNIE: Prim And Proper Pink
SHOSHANNA: Virtuous Vivid Violet
JESSA: Bohemian Burgundy

yeah that set off flares in my mind like TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR UNSOLICITED WRITING FOR YOUR WEBSITE is more unrealistic than most things in this world of white people

it was very clear that it's a sarcastic song (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 February 2013 06:20 (thirteen years ago)

also i know it's the joke that dude's art sucks but 1) it doesn't like like hirst, despite what girl says and 2) wow it's so so so bad, can't they do better than this

it was very clear that it's a sarcastic song (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 February 2013 06:21 (thirteen years ago)

Can you think

Women, Fire, and Dangerous Zings (silby), Saturday, 2 February 2013 06:27 (thirteen years ago)

er, think of any TV shows with plausible fake art?

And yeah the TV box was more reminiscent of terrible knockoff Nam June Paik than anything.

I went to the Outsider Art Fair thursday night and was looking at something and Jerry Saltz turned to face me and my girlfriend and started talking to us as if we'd been listening to his entire conversation. It was really weird.

dan selzer, Saturday, 2 February 2013 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

i saw him do that to a few people at an opening at the whitney but assumed he just knew everyone in the room

it was very clear that it's a sarcastic song (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 February 2013 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

It felt like he thought we were encroaching on his space because he's famous, or he thought we were somebody he knew. In fact I was just going around looking at the art and didn't notice he was there until he turned to face me, looked me in the eye, and started talking about some people I'd never heard of.

dan selzer, Saturday, 2 February 2013 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

only THEN did we do the gawking when I was like "wait, wasn't that that guy?"

dan selzer, Saturday, 2 February 2013 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

he's lena dunham's godfather

lol this show is ridiculous

Watched with a friend last night and then climbed in the bath with her and cried because I was sad. It's just what we do. What most girls do. NBD.

Every publicity shot of Lena Dunham looks absolutely nothing like Lena Dunham.

Belated epiphany in Slate weekly post-mortem:

While I take pleasure in the show, and find it brilliantly funny at times, I am increasingly realizing a problem I have with it: I find very few relatable characters and moments.

You think, Slate writer?

Anyone who can't relate to horrible cruel fuckups needs to get real w themselves.

i like the notion of GIRLS as the bleaker, more nihilistic antidote to GAME OF THRONES but nah.

that said, if you needed to describe HBO Original Programming in three words, "horrible cruel fuckups" would do it admirably

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Sunday, 3 February 2013 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

(obv if you needed to do it in four words it would be "horrible cruel fuckups, boobs"

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Sunday, 3 February 2013 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

Horrible, cruel boobs

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 3 February 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know how you can "take pleasure" in something and find it "brilliantly funny" while being unable to relate to the characters or situation.

jed_, Sunday, 3 February 2013 22:22 (thirteen years ago)

Well I suppose it's possible with something like dumb or dumber but not with a show like this. I don't see how you could laugh without relating.

jed_, Sunday, 3 February 2013 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

Gratuitous boobage

calstars, Sunday, 3 February 2013 22:31 (thirteen years ago)

Not that I'm complaining. The end of ep 1 was basically Lena saying "fuck me"

calstars, Sunday, 3 February 2013 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

Hannah, excuse me

Women, Fire, and Dangerous Zings (silby), Sunday, 3 February 2013 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm like does she really have to be naked in every episode, but then the perv in me doesn't mind.

emilys., Monday, 4 February 2013 00:43 (thirteen years ago)

*bites tongue*

s.clover, Monday, 4 February 2013 00:48 (thirteen years ago)

I like to think that every time an HBO exec asks for more boobs LD writes another boobs scene for herself, like she's straight up daring someone to tell her they are really after Allison Williams' boobs.

Women, Fire, and Dangerous Zings (silby), Monday, 4 February 2013 01:09 (thirteen years ago)

that would make it so much more acceptable.

s.clover, Monday, 4 February 2013 01:33 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think Alison will ever show. But then again I thought the same about Jemima and was wrong there

calstars, Monday, 4 February 2013 01:50 (thirteen years ago)

i think it's clear from the way her sex scenes so far were filmed that it's not gonna happen

flopson, Monday, 4 February 2013 02:45 (thirteen years ago)

okay that was a great episode

loooool fat babies
