having to live with the Wolves seems a bit harsh this season tho

Wait, he has to live with Wolves and Forest? That is harsh.
― Canaille help you (Michael White), Friday, 25 January 2013 15:42 (thirteen years ago)
Hold on - the Lampard that appears at 1:23? No way is that level of injokery Taiwanese, the waggish hand of UK bantz is involved here.
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 25 January 2013 17:01 (thirteen years ago)
ehThat is pure brilliance

i think some of that particularly intense affection liverpool fans have for rafa derives from his northern complexion, he looks like he could have been dragged out of a cellar in widnes, baroque hand gestures aside he does not really seem southern at all

Paul Ince just said on Football Focus that at his age he's not going to a club where he doesn't play every week. To which Lawro helpfully added "And you have to remember, that was his problem with Liverpool in the first place."
"His" problem. Is that saying he's got ego problems?
― Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:07 (thirteen years ago)
probably does if he's expecting a first team place at 45 years of age
― r|t|c, Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:12 (thirteen years ago)
srsly tho i think you're reading too much into it
― r|t|c, Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:14 (thirteen years ago)
he could probably do a job for QPR
― Number None, Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:17 (thirteen years ago)
You're probably right, I just thought it was weird that the most blatant Liverpool stalwart on the BBC immediately jumped in with a phrase that quite readily translates as trying to shift the blame for the move to Blackpool away from the club. xpost
― Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:18 (thirteen years ago)
lawro is probably the least rabid former liverpool employee of all time though
mostly down to his natural demeanour but still

Don't think it's ego problems to wanna play football? Doesn't imply that he thought he should be starting at LFC just that he wanted to be playing something other than reserve team football so that he had a chance to actually improve? Paul Ince said midweek that he doesn't want Thomas going back to LFC if he's just gonna be playing Reserve/Developmental football or sitting on the bench for 6 months.
― pandemic, Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:32 (thirteen years ago)
No, not really a conspiracy Ronan, I just thought it was an oddly ambiguous turn of phrase.
From memory, what Ince said was "he plays every week at Blackpool and he wants that elsewhere".
― Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Saturday, 26 January 2013 13:35 (thirteen years ago)
Or "would want" rather.
good on the kid tbh

lawrenson is liverpool's most blatant hater at the bbc now wtf! it may well be in an i think you may protest too much kind of way but ffs he hasn't said a good thing about the club in years and is head over heels with united and ferguson. i think it's a symptom of his self-hatred tbh. obv been living in denial for years too.

Tonight's the night. Just had a couple of stiff ones after work ahead of this. I'm sure there are darker days ahead but this is without doubt the as close to a "day of destiny" that Villa have had during my lifetime. Well there may have been one under Eck last year but I just couldnt get so emotionally involved in that. A win tonight could make such a massive difference. It's also the night that Lambo finally decides to give the Benteke/Bent combo the run-out it's been asking for. Am ready to come round entirely on DB if he saves us this season.

this is *the* game of the season, I assume we're all agreed

just bet my weekend drinking money on Villa to win. will regret it in the morning. but then....
― Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:36 (thirteen years ago)
fucking Villa.

A blow expected, repeated, falling on a bruise, with no smart or shock of surprise, only a dull sickening sensation and the doubt whether another like it could be borne.
― Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:16 (thirteen years ago)
rip
motherfucking Villa.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:16 (thirteen years ago)
I was just typing that I really want Villa to not lose tonight, because while a club in a tailspin is one of football's finest sights, they have to be particularly odious before you want them to die. But that seems academic at this point tbh.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:18 (thirteen years ago)
Please don't take this the wrong way, Windsor, but I really want Villa to lose.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:22 (thirteen years ago)
I don't even know why.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:23 (thirteen years ago)
Brian Little OTM, amazingly. The attention is always focussed on how bad we are in defence, but I think the midfield is probably worse. By which I mean Bannan and Westwood
― Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:23 (thirteen years ago)
Tiny, tiny little part of me that kinda agrees tbh NBS. Like a miniscule fragment of my soul is ready to give up the ghost and would sooner just lose the next 8 games back to back and get this over with quickly. Dunno if I can bear a long-drawn out near miss
― Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:26 (thirteen years ago)
Oh yeah, I can relate to that - if your team's going to do badly, you want them to do more badly than anyone else ever. No place for half-measures in this game.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:30 (thirteen years ago)
I bet nbs was revelling in it those years Utd finished third
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:40 (thirteen years ago)
This is pressure.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:50 (thirteen years ago)
(xp) I've said it before, and it was a very long time ago, but back when United did actually look like they might go down (86/87 and 89/90) part of me wanted it to actually happen. But that was on the basis that United would come straight back up and it would be nice to have a season playing different teams and winning most of the time. Obviously I'd have preferred them to actually be challenging for the title, but I think I'd have preferred relegation and rebirth to grinding along in 16th place.
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:50 (thirteen years ago)
False hope.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
Another embarrassing fold on the card for Newcastle?
― CraigG, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
I feel like they've thrown away solid looking 2-0 leads more than any other team this season
― CraigG, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
crisis club Newcastle
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:53 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, to be in the position to throw away 2 goal leads...
I remember those days, just a few seasons back. Good times.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:53 (thirteen years ago)
Not raised the pulse much yet. There's plenty of time yet for this to go completely tits up, for either team.
― Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:53 (thirteen years ago)
Whatcha talking about EZ? Our throwing of the game against the Baggies the other day was absolutely vintage.
― Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
True. Total throwback game. I just remember one of those every other week under O'Neill.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 20:58 (thirteen years ago)
what a pass from Benteke
