N_RQ, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Did I say Kate Hudson? I meant Katie Holmes!

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

FUTURE PLUMPERS

Golly, I hope they have a FUTURE RAILROAD SPIKES directory, too!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Leave Spencer alone, he was basically OTM on that thread, with the exception of believing those photos were photoshopped. And he's also not posting on this thread, so callling him out is kind of childish.

Allyzay do not obtain to make download of yours MP3 (allyzay), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

If I'm not mistaken, I read on another board she changed her haircolour to match someone else's. Meryl Streep? Somebody who was going to be her mother (in the film). Whatever, I think it's horrible. She's such a beauty, why change it? She should hang out less with Mrs soon-to-be-DJ AM/Ritchie who is losing weight much too fast, she's 95 pounds or something.

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

pish! its just baby fat!

Lohan: 'Overweight' and 'Wholesome'
Lindsay's skewed self-image; Plus, news on Jake, George, Beyoncé, Justin, Madonna, BenGar and a shorn Portman ...

by Kat Giantis
MSN Entertainment

Does this look like someone who needs to drop a few pounds? Didn't think so. But Lindsay Lohan believes that if she went arm to twiglike arm with some of her fellow streamlined starlets, she'd look like she was carrying extra baggage.

"... Compared to a lot of actresses my age, I'm actually overweight," the alarmingly slimmed-down teen queen tells Teen Vogue. "There are so many really, really thin girls out there."

Lohan has dismissed eating disorder whispers, attributing her skin-and-bones bod to a loss of "baby fat," and she tells the magazine she "feels good" about her new figure because "you can fit into more things."

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasn't calling him out, just saying he reckoned the photos were 'shopped. sheesh.

N_Rq, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not as if she wasn't already thin by any normal standards anyway.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still waiting for Ally's verdict on Katie Holmes.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I have since revised my opinion on the photos photoshopedness.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a poster of Mean Girls right outside my office door. Man, fuck this culture! This is not attractive, Lindsay!

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

comparing this photo with that poster, I can only hope she gets back to eating Fatburger and soon.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i am surprising myself at how much this is depressing me.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like she's lived her whole life trying to make me feel stupid for defending her on this thread. I hoped she would turn out all stylish, like this:

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

we'll always have google images.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

what sucks about this is that what made her stand out is completely gone and now she's like some goddamned clone. but yes we still have Mandy Moore, I suppose.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Everybody calm down, it is not hard to put some weight back on! Have you ever tried to do it?

I would love to eat burgers with Lindsay.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

thats a wicked picture nabisco. dont know why she is tryign to stretch her top though, she should have bought opne that fit!

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you sure that works, Spence? It seems to me that you are replacing good fat with bad fat.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, grilled chicken sandwiches then.

Can we talk about how sexy her voice is?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I've ever heard her voice! That can't be true, can it?

(this is like totally plausibly the hottest photo of anyone ever, ever, though)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

GO THICK 4 LIFE, LINDSAY!

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

(Spencer, I didn't mean the burgers. I just meant starving and then fattening up again- doesn't that loosen up the skin folds or something?)

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

(Please excuse my "folk biology")

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

NB, John, I know pretty precisely why this kind of thing is so depressing to me. There used to be this idea that body pressures on women must have to do with ideas of attractiveness and therefore must have to do with what men wanted to see -- which was theoretically a bad thing, but was at least simple and easy to isolate and think about. Stuff like this just points out for the millionth time that it has nothing to do with anything anybody actually wants -- that these ideas about the body are weird abstract cultural constructions, these looming forces that lurk around everywhere and have nothing to do with what anybody on Earth actually thinks is a good idea. (Who would actually own this stuff?) So what we wind up seeing is someone like Lindsay becoming actively less attractive and less healthy and possibly less happy, all for the purpose of achieving something in these abstract/spiritual body-dysmorphia terms that have everything to do with weird free-floating values and nothing to do with what anybody actually wants.

Which is totally creepy! To think that we have these values floating around that are totally aribitrary, completely detached from anyone's actual desires, and completely off the leash in terms of anyone's making any effort to do anything about them. We've somehow encoded everyone with this skinny-is-good mentality even where we don't, in specific practice, believe that to be the case, and so any woman who gets looked at a reasonable amount is likely to start dedicating herself to that abstract good (and will feel better being the in-control over-thin horror than the beloved squeezy thing!), even as it has precisely the opposite effect on men and on whatever other women aren't equally-encoded enough with the same line to congratulate others just for having managed it. It'd be hilarious if it weren't so sad.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Obviously that's leaving out all the very-personal issues about control-over-life and general dysmorphia (which I think has a lot to do with youth and clinging to outdated super-youthful body-conceptions) that probably have more to do with this in general, but it all ties together.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree, nabisco. (Oh, I'm sorry - I meant to say 'Nabisco OTM!') I think it's bizarre how different body shapes go in and out of style. Like the late 80s "It's ok to look like a REAL woman!" phase or the Kate Moss phase or the Big Butts phase...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

We need all styles at once!

This is going to sound totally male-gaze and over-pervy but what the hell: Lindsay-fans saddened by this recent development may wish to switch horses and start perving instead on the lovely Allison Munn:

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw her at Ikea once! I didn't know who she was, except Fez's psycho girlfriend from "That '70s Show"

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, i'm too busy reading about atom egoyan's new movie

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Kevin Bacon: "One of the things about the movie is that when we have sex, we're naked. That's what kind of flips people out, which I don't understand. Sometimes, personally, I leave some of my clothes on, but usually ... I don't know about the rest of you. It is unfortunate that people find that so disturbing. To me, I think that the sex in the movie is incredibly appropriate."

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

atom egoyan's WILD THINGS TOO

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Everybody calm down, it is not hard to put some weight back on! Have you ever tried to do it?
I have tried to. It's not possible at all for me, though.

... And suddenly Ian Riese-Moraine is a naked man saying, 'Volvo! Volvo!' (Easte, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Just you wait, Ian.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean, holy christ, that turqoise background is hott

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian, you've tried to put it 'back on'? Or were you always skinny?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, there is currently still no substitute for Lindsay Lohan.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Alison Lohman is pretty.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

extremely

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

So far as I can tell I have zero ability to control anything weight-related; I've tried changing my diet and exercise levels for various boring health-type reasons, and have never been able to institute any given change for any longer than 36 hours. Luckily I've weighed pretty much exactly 145 since I was like 16, and I've never seen any particular reason to try and shift that.

But so point being I think there's an element of, well, body-modification that's just inherently addictive. Like people say about tattoos and piercings and such, really: once people succeed at the actually pretty difficult task of remaking their bodies (whether it's losing weight or building muscle or whatever else), it becomes some kind of weird experimental goal to do it again, to master the body, to exert your hard-won control over it. So I suppose there's a level on which the painfully-thin actress is a lot like the grotesquely-overmuscled gym dude.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

NB that's a terrible picture of Alison Munn up there -- just the first thing I spotted that demonstrated certain Lohan-improvement qualities.

http://thebosh.com/archives/52860363.jpg

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, did I actually post that?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, i think so

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Too late now, Spence. If you want it deleted you'd better give teeny a real good reason.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i blame spencer.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What the fuck is she wearing?
