hey godard is shooting his new (3D!!) film with SLR still cameras.

Camera choice, unless it's 35mm or 65mm, now means basically nothing wrt production value/budget. The Alexa is like $60,000 (and if you've been working for a while you know someone who has one), and DSLRs are often chosen for their size and aesthetic instead of cost. In fact, because they're not video cameras, all the bullshit you have to go through to make them work like video cameras can make them more expensive to use than proper video cameras.

I think Lacey Chabert is in a different Hallmark or Lifetime movie every week -- she might not be a movie star, but she has much more of a steady career than Lindsay.

Oh my god I work at a place that largely rents out DSLRs for video and it's just such a constant nightmare that I spend half my time with clients making little head jerks towards the FS100s.

Renting out DSLRs?! C'mon if you are a serious indie filmmaker you should own your own damn camera, even if you had to steal it (from a rental shop perhaps, lol).

And I don't mean something like a 4K-resolution Alexa camera or whatever. Thats pretty non-indie.

is this what people mean when they say someone is "taking it on the chin"? i've never been 100% sure what that idiom means tbh.

It means you take a hard punch w/o complaint. LL must know she's got some 'punches' coming her way. Taking them well will stand to her credit.

Those are two different things, but the latter is more like what I thought it meant. That's what it seemed like she was doing there.

I thought it means keep your chin up, don't lose your resolve, and here's a friendly faux-punch to the chin, "Go get 'em, tiger".

That probably is correct. This is an instance where any of us could probably google and look for the real answer but it is far more entertaining to hear everyone's interpretations of it.

maybe. i just think, as a general rule, i'm not a fan of his smug, sarcastic kind of humor. i watched an old interview he did with harmony korine recently and something about letterman's wry attitude toward korine's eccentricity rubbed me the wrong way, idk. also i, for what ever reason, pretty much always find myself rooting for lindsay lohan.
