Don't know if this is the right thread to air my suspicions, but... I don't think my friend Neil really does 'Like Wonga.com' at all.

http://arstechnica.com/business/2013/01/on-facebook-users-can-no-longer-hide-from-search-results/
In the wake of its “graph search” announcement, Facebook removed the ability for users to opt out of appearing in search results on the site <...> Facebook retired the ability to hide profiles from search results in December 2012
people who are concerned about privacy but still use facebook in 2013 deserve everything they get

What does "Do you want other search engines to link to your Timeline" do then?

I think I've done pretty good keeping my birthday, my home address, my government name off of there.
But then I wonder if Facebook's algorithms are advanced enough to catch that on a certain day last fall, everyone wished me a happy birthday. That my IP always comes back to this neighborhood. That once, an old buddy of mine used my government name in a reply. Could it tie all that information together?
― pplains, Saturday, 19 January 2013 00:06 (thirteen years ago)
most definitely
― 乒乓, Saturday, 19 January 2013 00:07 (thirteen years ago)
when netflix released its 'anonymous' rental data, people were able to track 'anonymous' account numbers back to specific people
really, there's no hiding for you, new god.

there is not a 'yes' big enough to sufficiently answer this question

Not related to FB, but w/r/t phones with check-in features or "allow location services" for apps:
When Mrs. Broccoli and I were on a long drive, we had a guess about how we thought google maps traffic function worked.
All I can say is that we both felt very, very naive after we learned the truth.

Number of people using Google Maps in an area, compensate for the number of people who typically are using Maps out of average traffic, tada... traffic!

I deactivated and reactivated my account three times last friday and now most people can see my site but a lot of close friends cant. I sent Facebook an email but they're not great at getting back. Any tips on how get it back running properly again? I dont want to have to delete my account.

this sounds really cool - http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/03/07/facebook_redesign_new_newsfeed_is_morning_newspaper_to_twitter_s_cnn.html
i'd love to get all my news thru fb - esp would be cool if you could do super detailed 'google alert' type feeds; but i'm probably hoping for an rss killer when i'm just going to get another lousy fb design update
― Mordy, Friday, 8 March 2013 02:05 (thirteen years ago)
does nobody else think it's weird that Facebook totally changes their whole strategy and redesigns everything about twice a year?
― my god i only have 2 useless beyblade (silby), Friday, 8 March 2013 02:07 (thirteen years ago)
it makes sense to me. they should keep trying to redesign it until they design something enjoyable to use
― Mordy, Friday, 8 March 2013 02:09 (thirteen years ago)
am totally cool with the option to only see updates from friends, i really do not care that much about what's going on in the life of meat loaf
― This is called money bags. (zachlyon), Friday, 8 March 2013 03:23 (thirteen years ago)
i realised some years ago that it's just someone's job to redesign things. that's all they do, just change stuff. whether the changes are for the best nobody seems to mind (or, at best, can't tell how good they are until after the work's all done by which time there are lots of costs already incurred). see kde4, gnome3, windows ribbon etc etc.
