and they may have to edit out jokes for time, or they end up trying to string 2 or 3 storylines together with other leftover jokes

it was great seeing the human centipede/apple story being created
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 20:10 (thirteen years ago)
No idea it was a fairly short window. Does explain how often one storyline within an ep is v funny while a couple of others are that totally off.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:26 (thirteen years ago)
yeah early on they had longer time frames, but as they got faster at it or as deadlines pushed forward, they kind of locked themselves into this kinda "hair on fire" way of working
i mean seeing them sitting there day 1 of the writer's room for the new season & it's like *crickets*, nothing... into having a show on day six is crazy to watch
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)
Hope I can catch that doc some day - its quite remarkable when there is a late EP that is funny pretty much all the way through..
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:38 (thirteen years ago)
I can only think of a couple recently that were good all the way through - Broadway Bro-Down and Cash 4 Gold. The latter is one that I think is one of the best they've ever done but oddly enough it's one of the few that was actually way behind the times. I feel like almost everything since that awful Mr./Mrs. Garrison sex change episode has been real hit or miss, often within the same episode. Can anyone even remember what the "Jackin' in San Diego" episode was about?
― frogbs, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:42 (thirteen years ago)
this last season was pretty good, I thought. There were a few meh ones but Sarcastaball and Cash for Gold and Nightmare on Face Time were really funny
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:43 (thirteen years ago)
jackin in sandiego was the Kony ep
oh yeah I know it had something to do with Kony and Stan making a documentary but I forget pretty much any specifics outside of that
the problem is that sometimes they unleash episodes so awful that it makes me never want to watch the show again. examples: the ziplining episode, the one where Jimmy goes to "special camp", any Towlie episode besides the first one
― frogbs, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
I didn't like the Faith Hill ep, and yeah the ziplining one was superdumb
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 22:53 (thirteen years ago)
I'm probably ~2 seasons behind (in the UK), but yes some of the EPs are unwatchable - the Towlie/Oprah one and anything to do w/Garrison's sex change. That was (looking at wiki) the beginning of Season 9 but I'm not sure of when exactly the rot set in.
"Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy" (one of those I caught recently) is really fkn hilarious.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 23:35 (thirteen years ago)
yeah the Garrison ones were badand I hated the Oprah ep
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 23:36 (thirteen years ago)
Oh man I loved the ziplining episode

Amazing that SNL has six days to air, too, and a huge staff of talented, improvisational actors and writers, and no plot requirement, and actual celebrities, but usually sucks.

My 2012 favorites were "Butterballs" (the bully/kony one) and "A Scause For Applause."
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 16 January 2013 05:33 (thirteen years ago)
The first half was pretty weak, with only Cash For Gold (the best since You're Getting Old) and Butterballs standing out, but the second half was flat-out great. Obama Wins and Raising The Bar were the only disappointments - and even then, the James Cameron stuff in Raising The Bar was pretty good.

can't wait for the inevitable Te'o episode
― frogbs, Thursday, 17 January 2013 22:24 (thirteen years ago)
If it's as good as the Lance Armstrong episode, yes. If it's as good as the Honey Boo Boo episode, no.

I love the sound design, particularly that Skyrim sound effect whenever you get a new quest item.

When I first heard I wasn't sure why everyone was excited given the awful track record of South Park license games. Though I saw a sample of gameplay later and it looked like a neat concept.
― Evan, Thursday, 6 March 2014 19:19 (twelve years ago)
it looks and feels exactly like playing a (v good) episode of south park, and it also happens to be a very streamlined, enjoyable rpg kinda like mario rpg or w/e. really having fun with this.
― real myst opportunity (sleepingbag), Thursday, 6 March 2014 19:25 (twelve years ago)
It's way less about being funny or satirical or offensive and more about being an immersive virtual realm, so you don't even need to worry about that stuff if you are worried. At least where I am (3 hours total maybe?). I am VERY glad they decided to make an RPG. Visually it brings to mind the 2d/3d style of LucasArts graphic adventures. It's sort of a cross between Day of the Tentacle and Skyrim. Thankfully, the curses of modern gaming haven't bogged this game down with cutscenes and QTE's. It is such a natural fit for the animation style, and it is indeed like controlling your own episode of South Park movie in HD with a pretty simple, feature-heavy, centralized interface. The level of immersion is nearly seamless.
It's hilarious to control and watch these LARPers just walk around town, go into banks, sneak into movie theaters, wearing a cape and bashing open mailboxes with a sword, with adults for the most part obliviously wandering around NPCing in their own neurosis. It's a somewhat anarchic experience, sort of GTA: Muppet Babies.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 7 March 2014 01:18 (twelve years ago)
I like this way better than Skyrim atm.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 7 March 2014 01:19 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, this is far more Lucasarts adventure game mixed with lite Paper Mario RPG bits than anything. It's great. The multiple Dune refs amuse me.

Lol its filled with insanely homophobic and racist humor and there's an entire level centered around anal rape
Thankfully, the curses of modern gaming haven't bogged this game down with cutscenes and QTE's.
its packed to the gills with button mashing segments, including multiple sequences where you have to perform an abortion using the analog sticks and multiple complicated farting tutorials

Looks like a ton of fun, but play clips where the guy spends five minutes changing hair styles or mentions that he's "only" 9 hours in really underscore why videogames are not for me, alas. Like, I wish!

I really like the fake 80s songs that play when you meet the goths. All the music in this game is pretty cool.

i cracked up at the fake sisters of mercy song
― AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Friday, 7 March 2014 17:43 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, the goth kids were almost my favorite bit where Trey & Matt tipped their hands a bit too much about going to high school in the 80s. The episode where the goth kids encounter the Twilight/sparkly vampire crowds is funny both for how they resolve the situation, and for the fake Joy Division/Chameleons UK song they play over that scene.
Trey & Matt have a long history of making fake goth songs, is what I'm saying. Hell, they had on Robert Smith as a guest voice in the 2nd season.
― President Frankenstein (kingfish), Friday, 7 March 2014 19:16 (twelve years ago)
The dungeons in this are great! Way better than FFX or Skyrim. Lots of unnecessarily Rube Goldberg puzzles that bring to mind maybe "A Link to the Past". Of course, you can dress up as Link!
But yeech the gross-out humor and offensive stuff is like a big fat zit on the face of a really awesome RPG.
