How the fuck is that a red?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

Bladdy ell. Are those always red cards now with the studs up? Didn't touch him!

Windsor Davies, Sunday, 13 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

or even have the studs up

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

pretty sure big swarthy foreign dude doing to great white hope of english fitba what great white hope of english fitba does a couple times every game is an automatic red

trying too hard

Number None, Sunday, 13 January 2013 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

twp, gerrard, terry have had these privileges for years

kompany deserved a booking cuz it was scrappy and potentially dangerous, but not dangerous enough, and not malicious enough to get near a sending off

i had to do more grown up stuff what'd i miss

let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-ilxors (darraghmac), Sunday, 13 January 2013 19:38 (thirteen years ago)

  • Arsenal big babies, self-sabotage through self-pity
  • City kinda bored of the epl, barely rousing themselves
  • Utd actually do it through great precision and high tempo, but other than rvp have the air of a confidence side, could see them having a terrible run at some point
  • Liverpool somehow dragging a promising display out of that first half, and I guess credit to Bren for changing it though maybe should've acted even sooner; don't quite understand how the dynamic changed quite so much though; Gerrard good, Suarez, Sturridge, Borrini could be a very interesting front three, but still too much average kicking around
Conclusion: Utd will win the title as they're the only ones who really want it. What's 'grown up stuff'?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

"bored of the EPL" eh? Suppose they're saving themselves for Europe

Number None, Sunday, 13 January 2013 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

Kompany sending off probably a yellow, definitely a classic shit refereeing "even the numbers up" decision

non-elitist melted poo (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 13 January 2013 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

citeh saving themselves for the summer and spain/italy, perhaps

agreed on kompany. wilshere might have been booked imo. nothing wrong with first red.

Welbeck looked great today, felt dangerous throughout. Ditto Sturridge.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 January 2013 23:41 (thirteen years ago)

not really into finishing so much huh matt

Purism.

Matt DC, Monday, 14 January 2013 10:52 (thirteen years ago)

he 'makes things happen', classic english striker in the vassell mode, much better than a one-trick pony like darren bent

the lad houellebecq does gives it a rare puppy joie de vivre at least

r|t|c, Monday, 14 January 2013 11:29 (thirteen years ago)

The bit where he ran the length of the pitch, only to tumble out-of-bounds and be retrieved by a grinning Sturridge, was kinda lovely. It felt like a behind-the-curtain thing that we're not supposed to see.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 January 2013 11:49 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't see it- had he the ball or was it a bumblebee he was after?

would like to see van persie using only back-heels from now on in attempts to score.

#LFC vs top half #EPL (rank 18th): W0 D5 L6 F9 A19 Clean Sheets 2, Failed to Score 4 | vs bottom half (rank 3rd) W8 D2 L1 F26 A9 CS 6 FtS 0

Last season #lfc ranked 6th vs top half and 14th vs bottom half

When I watch Liverpool I keep thinking they're on the verge of being good (for a given value of good) - I'm quite surprised at those figures particularly no wins at all vs top half teams.

Stop Gerrying Me! (onimo), Monday, 14 January 2013 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

yeah but much improved vs bottom half, signs of a more solid/consistent team there?

let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-ilxors (darraghmac), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

Yes their record vs bottom half is very similar to e.g. Tottenham's - win column vs top half making the difference between CL & Europa aspirations.

Stop Gerrying Me! (onimo), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

they played pretty well against man u and city earlier this year. against chelsea they got a point despite playing a lot worse than in either of those two games. i'm still largely happy enough with them. i'll judge next year.

let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-ilxors (darraghmac), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:45 (thirteen years ago)

he was poor enough yesterday, though made a few good saves near the end. he had his own defence in a state of terror before the second goal, just seemed to cause confusion by whatever he was shouting at them. two very poor clearances in the first half as well.

you know stats like these, these "top and second half" do they use the teams' rankings as of those matches being played or just what the teams' rankings are as of now?

surely an element of cause/effect there?

^ sarcasm (ken c), Monday, 14 January 2013 17:08 (thirteen years ago)

I think they are as of now otherwise it's something of a moving target and you're not comparing like for like - some teams might not get to play e.g. a top half West Ham.

Might be more informative to look at how they compare against 1-9 and 10-17 from last season idk.

You might be right, I just can't think of any right now; whereas there's a bit of a queue of Remys, M'Vilas and Eriksens building up.

ah hey now ffs!

let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-ilxors (darraghmac), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 09:53 (thirteen years ago)

Modric wasn't really linked with anyone pre-Spurs, same goes for most of the Newcastle players, whereas Remy has been linked with seemingly everyone over the last ear.

I'm not sure I've seen Remy play, does he really not have better options out there or is he just not that good?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 09:55 (thirteen years ago)

just messing, mostly. though i remember him being linked to everyone before spurs, and at that stage your lot weren't CL. it always seemed really dumb to me that liverpool or man u or chelsea didn't sign him, it wasn't as if he hadn't done it on a major stage in recent memory. and the price was low too. great business.

xpost - modric was linked to EVERYONE, all season long, before spurs. and cabaye was linked to tons of clubs too.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 09:55 (thirteen years ago)

Also lol this was from like three weeks ago:

Asked about his plans for the January transfer window, Redknapp said: "I don't want to spend their (the club's) money, to be honest with you.

"There are a lot of players at this club who earn far too much money for what they are; far, far, far too much money for their ability and what they give to the club.

"There are a lot of players at this club who earn far too much money for what they are."

"I don't really want to see the owners have their pants taken down like they have in the past. There's a lot of agents made money out of them.

"I fined a player last week and he was earning more than any player earned at Tottenham.

"You shouldn't be paying massive wages when you've got a stadium that holds 18,000 people.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 10:00 (thirteen years ago)

Sneijder's become one of these too, if it really is true that his move boils down to a Liverpool-Fenerbahce tug-of-war.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 10:02 (thirteen years ago)

modric looked a player but eastern european hype names who do well in the national side are hardly uncommon... at 17m there was an element of risk and big clubs will always rather spend twice as much on a sure thing later down the line

only have to look as far as rebrov for the alternate story

Arshavin

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 10:08 (thirteen years ago)

“He [Remy] didn’t want to come to us. He didn’t even want to speak about coming.

“I went over last week to watch him play, not that I needed to as I watched him about seven times when I was at Tottenham.

“I couldn’t even get a meeting with him. I was hoping to talk to him to encourage him to come.

“I think he was in a position where, when I was at Tottenham, he was interested in coming and I got on well with the lad so he would have felt embarrassed coming to say he didn’t want to come to QPR.

“He wasn’t being disrespectful. He was just in a position he didn’t know how to handle, so I’ve got no problems with him.

“He may change his mind, you don’t know. I wouldn’t write him off completely. I’d like to get him if possible but it’s not going to be easy.”
