Paul Young on Twitter: "Re 16:30. And the best goalie in the Prem right now is also Belgian - 'Mig the Magnificent' or 'Super Simon'. Sunderland stopper Simon Mignolet."

Ted, Arsenal fan, via text: "Tough day for Jon Walters but a hard working player who represents all that is good about Stoke, I am sure he will bounce back."

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Saturday, 12 January 2013 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

I really hope Ted's right, I don't like to think that by the time Stoke next play he'll've succumbed to pestilence, death or worse

Villa failed to find a way through a defence built on Maya Yoshida and Jos Hooiveld. This does not speak well of them.

dawson 70 passes 90% accuracy.

Naughton not only shit, his attitude did not become a kid 3 months in the team, let him fuck off.

The rest, eh didnt play any neat stuff, looked easy to cut through on break, not great, take a point.

There were points yesterday when Spurs appeared to be threading balls through the eye of a needle up to a certain point but never in a situation that would get anyone into goalscoring positions. We never play particularly well against teams who play like that and Redknapp knows it, but a lack of guile certainly showed yesterday.

Number None, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:07 (thirteen years ago)

This really isn't a game when you try and retool your forward line to make way for an untried combination.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:09 (thirteen years ago)

Not looking forward to this. Can see us getting a couple, even taking the lead twice, but this'll be a routine 3-2 to Utd I fear.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

Gah that's ruined everything, really wanted Liverpool to take the lead.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

Hrmph. Utd's close control is much more precise, it lets them get much further up the pitch before a move risks breaking down.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

Shades of Gerrard's ambulance ball to Henry in Euro 2004 just then.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:53 (thirteen years ago)

Oof, that should've been two

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 13:57 (thirteen years ago)

Sterling aside, Liverpool just don't have enough pace in their team, United are skinning them right across the park.

Reina took a really hefty one, that's some classy booing

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

might be cause Webb only stopped the game when Utd got the ball back

Number None, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:17 (thirteen years ago)

Webb trying to pre-emptively nobble any accusations of bias by allowing Liverpool to play for several minutes when in possession despite Reina being on the floor injured, then blowing the whistle as soon as United get the ball. Either you stop play or you don't.

Shame for Liverpool because Reina and Agger are keeping Liverpool in this, they're being whipped otherwise. Joe Allen is really not the man for this occasion, he's either being bypassed or giving the ball away.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

What was he going to do, let you have a go at an empty net?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

Downing getting a sneaky effort on target from the restart

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:19 (thirteen years ago)

why not? why did Liverpool get to play on?

Number None, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

United should really be two or three up by now.

What was he going to do, let you have a go at an empty net?

Yes - if it wasn't serious to stop play for the best part of a minute when Liverpool were on the attack, why did it suddenly become more serious when United got possession?

A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

If he was going to blow the whistle at all, he should have blown it when he saw Reina down injured. Alternatively he should have left it to United to put the ball out.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

There was no risk while Liverpool were attacking, he wasn't dying or anything - not so when Utd start going forward. Right decision. It's not like you need the help anyway.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 13 January 2013 14:24 (thirteen years ago)

The decision couldn't have been more wrong! If the injury is serious he should stop the game, if not play continues and it's up to the players to put it out - Liverpool chose not to.

Fuck all wrong with him anyway.
