joke twitter/weird twitter crossover comix, digging these

sleepingbag, Friday, 1 March 2013 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

i like the tweets but the art is awwwwfulll

fueled by satanism, violence, and sodomy (elmo argonaut), Friday, 1 March 2013 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

none of these are nearly as funny when drawn. its not the jokes, i guess, but the tweet construction itself, fitting stuff in that small amount of characters, brevity and evocativeness, etc., that makes them really work.

s.clover, Sunday, 3 March 2013 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

really underlines the weird twitter is like poetry argument.

s.clover, Sunday, 3 March 2013 20:03 (thirteen years ago)

i think they'd be funny if the art was better

frogbs, Sunday, 3 March 2013 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

nah, the art is really nice, and fairly twitter-style even.

but this is really how twitter-jokes should translate to comic form: http://wolfpuppy.net/comic/1.html

s.clover, Sunday, 3 March 2013 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

(all of them i mean, not that one in particular)

finally some twitter shit i can get into

Mordy, Monday, 4 March 2013 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

has nothing to do with the art, literal representations of jokes are never, ever funny

zero dark (s1ocki), Monday, 4 March 2013 17:46 (thirteen years ago)

I think it does - I could see most Perry Bible Fellowship comics working as tweets but obviously the art really helps there

frogbs, Monday, 4 March 2013 17:52 (thirteen years ago)

the best parts of some of these tweets are entirely in the phrasing and the description.

i'm not racist, but, *cranes neck to see if anyone's around. keeps craning. head unscrews entirely. out of the hole pour jewels & mysteries*

this is almost entirely a verbal joke. it's a verbal joke about an image, but the verbal turn is what gives it the action, or actually the multiple verbal turns, in the shift from direct address to action, and then the shift from craning to unscrewing, etc. the way it builds up the gag is all about how those few words are chosen. and how does one draw a "mystery" anyway?

s.clover, Monday, 4 March 2013 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

they're in large part jokes about how we communicate in txts and on twitter. just like a hueg part of pbf strips are jokes about genres of comic and representational art, not the raw punchlines themselves.

s.clover, Monday, 4 March 2013 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

okay stop

乒乓, Monday, 4 March 2013 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

i guess you'd have to cite examples but to me the art part of PBF is a great element of the overall presentation but not really integral to the joke.

meanwhile I think most UtilityLimb tweets are unfuckable for those reasons, but some of those comics seem like they'd work with better art

frogbs, Monday, 4 March 2013 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

it's fan art

fueled by satanism, violence, and sodomy (elmo argonaut), Monday, 4 March 2013 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

that's why it's bad

fueled by satanism, violence, and sodomy (elmo argonaut), Monday, 4 March 2013 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

sorry but great tweets lend themselves to overthinking.

s.clover, Monday, 4 March 2013 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

also most of those comics are from the bad part of weird twitter thats all favstar 18 yr olds just rearranging the same set of tropes
