dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 4 August 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

Cook vs Cozen, 2005.

6-3 6-7 (4-7).

I Picked up an injury midway and let him off the hook.
He turned it on when he needed to and I faded, from 5-4 matchpoint.

Ally C (Ally C), Saturday, 6 August 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to be of my UGC card again tonight I think, by seeing the one-off showing of The Wicker Man. Does anyone fancying joining me for the Britt Ekland shuffle?

By the way, this thread now takes ages to load, 20 Messages shown or not. I am worried it is breaking ILX and would be happy to call it a day.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

no

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

RJG in wanting to b r e a k ilx shocker!

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

oh crap, just a one-off showing? we were just talking the other day about how topp that film is.

stet (stet), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure it is top. The tone never really does it for me. It's all too stagy, clumsily cut and the music just doesn't work as a soundtrack to creepiness. Or is it not supposed to be creepy? Scary? Matter of fact paean to paganism? I dunno.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

The ending is the most upsetting thing to ever happen in a horror movie.

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Why am I not upset by it at all? I'm not a heartless man.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

The defence on The Wicker Man - C/D? I find most convincing is Momus's.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

i saw it when i was young and the image is burned onto my eyes maybe the reason. The only other thing i've seen where you have to sit and watch someone in agony for what seems like an hour is audition. That is also a v. upsetting thing to watch.

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

Audition is horrific, yes.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

Deathwatch is on at the GFT again this month. I don't like Wickerman or find it scary.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I thought you meant *The* Conference.

Apparently Burton's new ground is very nice.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

deathwatch is the glasgow-harvey keitel-harry dean stanton one that there were stills from somewhere online.

I would like to see that!

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

Bertrand Tavernier. I have done a book about this. He thought Glasgow looked like how things would look in the future, ie falling down and crumbling. Also stars the woman from Remy Schneider or whatever her name is, who died not long after, I think. My memory is not what it used to be. But I would like to see the film, yes.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

I´ve got a book ("Cinematic cities/landscapes" might be the title, is that right? My memory is not waht it used to be either...) where I remember reading that quote about Glasgow, but I haven´t got through all the essays it compiles carefully. Did you work at this project?

olenska, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

No, it was a book about Tavernier, for the San Sebastian Film Festival Tavernier retrospective. My first ever book, in fact. I was just the translator, mind.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)
