A 31-year-old woman will be charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime, according to a source within the Queens district attorney’s office.

The woman, Erica Menendez of the Bronx, is in custody after making statements that implicated herself in the death of Sunando Sen on Thursday night.

The New York Times reported that a law enforcement official said that Ms. Menendez had “told the cops it was an act against Muslims,” and cited the Sept. 11 attacks. The victim, Sunando Sen, was born in India and, according to a roommate, was raised Hindu.

“The defendant is accused of committing what is every subway commuter’s nightmare,” Mr. Brown said in an interview. “Being suddenly and senselessly pushed into the path of an oncoming train.”

Mr. Brown quoting Ms. Menendez as telling the police, “I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they put down the twin towers I’ve been beating them up.”

God damn. Living here, walking down the street or riding the subway, there's an extent to which it's not even useful to me to distinguish between whether someone is mentally ill, incredibly stupid or just a fucking asshole.

I just told a friend of mine the other day that I think his opponents should literally just run ads that say "Joe Lhota is running for Mayor of New York City. BUT HE'S THE HEAD OF THE MTA." and that's it.

it's hard to imagine a worse starting point. as far as most New Yorkers are concerned, the MTA is an evil demon force that occasionally shuts down the subway system, which otherwise functions completely on its own. or Bloomberg, maybe he runs it.
