It was originally calculated to be November and then revised to match up w the Mayan calendar. Looking up Terrence McKenna on youtube will get you plenty of silly lectures superimposed with 90s psychedelic screensavers and barely audible beneath techo.

Pretty much all the doomsday theories are your standard end-of-the-world stuff given credence by being arbitrarily connected to the Mayan thing.

What would the Rapture feel/look like?

My guess - We'll hear a trumpet and an irresistable call to "come on up" and whoosh we are excellerating heavenward. We will know exactly what is happening. It will seem like the most natural thing (as in not shocking that it is happening) thing. I suspect your thought will be, "I'm going home!"
