Dear me, are they still pounding out that puny palimpsest of pedagoguery? In that case, I recommend: review more LLoyd Cole!

If there's a better description I'd like to see it.

Wrong.

Rather, there is.

i've been listening all weekend to the muzik mafia's remake of je t'aime...moi non plus. cowboy troy's gasps of (anal-erotic?) pleasure made me, well, gasp with pleasure.

Is there any reason I shouldn't delete this whole bolloxed-from-the-beginning thread right now, other than that I can't be arsed?

Oh I get it, you're trying to "de-meme."

this thread is not as bad as Daft Punk, who are so bad that I will now say they are as bad as a band you all think are bad.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 9 January 2005 23:45 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm sure this makes you all feel very clever.

steve_m (Matt DC), Sunday, 9 January 2005 23:50 (nineteen years ago) link

what stevem is actually seeing here is the gradual breaking down of his own viewpoint of ilx as post-thatch old-skool prog-r0xx0r utopianism where rick wakeman = tom ewing and jon williams = sham 69 and calum = that scene in labyrinth with bowie in tights. as dr vick said to me the other day, this is a little like comparing post-xtian proto-industrial strife with the actions of orinoco womble a decade later and i'm sure if momus wasn't absorbed in his own intellectual paradigm he would realise it is all there in that tatu video DO YOU SEE???

mark ess (Matt DC), Sunday, 9 January 2005 23:59 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't think he's just impersonating you, Andrew. He seems to have been doing it with some others as well.

Also: "Wellborn" Melbourne Andrew What?
I think the point is that it rhymes, that's all.

So is that your impersonation of yourself?

A lot of the parodies on this thread lack a sense of style. Especially yours, Ken.

Not that I should be posting on this thread, Vicky won't let me. I'm off to go and cook some swan and gerbil in cider and leek casserole before turning up to talk loudly through all the quiet bits at that Baxendale gig, just to annoy people.

Yeah, Elvis is classic, Big Star is classic, Nick Lowe is classic. But what I'd like to as now is- why do people keep talking about the Beatles? After a lifetime of studying the question, I've realized that the other great bands of the 60s are actually much better than they are.

Just a thought or two after reading the thread in quiet contemplation. A lot of the parodies don't work too well, but with the exception of one or two posts they don't seem to be mean-spirited. As far as I can tell, only one person took offense. I would write a much longer post, but I've got to get up real early for work tomorrow morning.

I have absorbed every question, answer, thread, post, login name, alias, argument, anecdote, joke, debate, theory, scam, running gag, lingo, jargon, buzz word, quirk, tic, habit, compulsion, obsession, enthusiasm, endorsement and dimissal ever held on ILX/ILM. I even understand that fucking teh business. I've also found time to listen to lots of music and read the collected works of Philip Roth. Look upon my works, ye mighty ilxors, and despair!

To the good people of ILX,
Thank you for your warmth and understanding during yesterday's impersonation experiment. As has become obvious to all, I have gradually become more and more obsessed with ILE/ILM/ILetcetera - to the point that it has sucked all the air out of the other areas of my life. I have now been able to acknowledge my demons (and I mean no offense, when I refer to my internalized versions of you all as "demons," in fact I prefer to think of you all as "angels" cf. Jacob's Ladder) and let them go. Or, to try another metaphor (does this constitute "mixing"?), with your kind help and forbearance (or is it fortitude?), the meme invaders have been beaten back. Thanks especially to lovebug starski for delivering the grip-releasing death-blow. This is a monumentous moment for me, as I tear away the mask and stand before the good people of the ILX community and (thank you Andrew for showing me the "way out") I "imitate myself." My tiny life (Julian, are you out there?) comes to an end right here.

I know what talent is-
talent is Nara Jonez
with her google eyes
that she got from her father
who taut the Beatles
I never meet the Beatles
I never drink Mai Tais with Remy Martin
Therefore I have no talent
Talent is Larisa Lanche
Staring down from here Amazonian height
My river is not the one of the Amazonas
But the one of Henry Hudson and then of King Charles
This is not the pool of talent the men want
They want the flesh-eating fish
The pescata dentata

Talent Scout
Scout was the horse upon which rode the Long Ranger's
rouge-skinned sidebar Tonto
But where was Tonto's squaw?
Did the Ranger long for the quaking blonde Graze Keller?
The aloe-eyed Katy Juzgado?
Only the Silver mount

Scout was the clever sister in
How The Children Killed The Nightingale
But her brother was the Gem
The glittering prize animal at the state fair.
But is it fair?
I call it obscure.

Rock? I know what rock is- I was there when God gave it to Rod Argent. You can whip-dance yourself into any little interweb mentalist fantasy you want, but the fact of the matter is this: over the course of their decades-long career, Foghat out-stomped, out-boogied out-rocked, out-skronked, out-droned, out-drugged, out-influenced and out viola'd the Velvet Underground plus Lou Reed's entire solo output, all without the need for any coal-pinching Welshman.

I know whereof I speak- of the nine patents I hold, three are in cryptography, three in guitar amplifology, and three are in boogie-til-you-drop-opology. 'Nuff said.
