it was so sudden! I was out haing a pint with Dom, I only got thru one an a half and suddenl felt like I was gonna faint and spew. Hurried off home in a taxi and within 2 hours I was a shaking puky feverish mess. Blergh.

Hello various mongrels (not so much the sheepfuxors)!

Myself and my lady are on a three-week trip in Oz, arrived in Sydney yesterday (went to the Aquarium, stared vacantly at the fish, fish stared vacantly at us, no-score draw settled later at Sushi Train), catching a bus to Canberra on the 23rd (lady's folks live there), onwards to Melbourne on the 26th, then back to Sydney at an unspecified point before flying out on the 4th.

So firstly, it'd be nice to hang out with any available if it suits - I know my ILX glory days are behind me, and my latest incarnation is grumpier about the whole business than I'd like, but I am quite pleasant in person, honest.

And also secondly is there anything that y'all would like to recommend, particularly on the time-specific "if you're around on this date then it'd be madness to miss this" tip - specifically we're not set on which city we're in for New Years, all bids welcome etc.

Thanks for any info, rewards of a pint are available for any that result in a conviction us being entertained.

We're staying over near Darling Harbour, no local phone but stealing Wifi from hotel/wherever at the moment (currently the Museum of Contemporary Art). I'll ilxmail over the number if you fancy an expensive text. We have tickets to the Doctor Who thing at the Opera House later, which I'm not entirely certain about because Murray Gold by the wheelbarrow, but on the other hand hearing a Doctor Who theme on a massive orchestra at the Sydney Opera House plus there will be monsters in the audience plus there's a bar plus Mark Williams.

It's the 4 o clock show - we will be off out for a bite after - a pint after that sounds great. Bear in mind tho that we both got up at 4 this morning, so lasting until 10pm will be gold star territory.

The Opera Bar, below the forecourt, is better for a drink than inside the Opera House. If you're hanging in the Rocks area til then, The Lord Nelson, up the top of Argyle St (through and under the Argyle Cut) make their own awards-winning beer. (Which has accompanied many an ILX FAP, tbh.)

For your bite after, another Rocks pub, The Australian, offer kangaroo, emu and crocodile pizzas, if you want to welcome yourselves thoroughly to Australia. (And Harts Pub, which you'd pass on the way from the Opera House, has an excellent and rotating beer selection.)
