im thinking like the one seinfeld where george develops this agonizing crush on elaine & theres a really awkward scene of them sitting in the car together with george frozen at the wheel, elaine oblivious, joyous & sexual, stretching and dawdling, 'whaddya wanna do tonight? cuz i am up for ANYTHING!' to george's almost pre-adolescent terror - nothing on cye really touches that for me

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 13:34 (twenty years ago)

hmm. there might be a lot of George situations I could identify with, but I don't think I've ever once identified with the character.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 13:43 (twenty years ago)

for real?? "It became very clear to me, sitting out there today, that every decision I've made in my entire life has been wrong. My life is the complete opposite of everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have, in every aspect of life, be it something to wear, something to eat - it's all been wrong."

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I love CYE, tho (like a lot of tv shows), I'm finding a slight law of diminishing returns for each season. I just saw the first episode of season 5 on youtube the other day, and it's still a funny show, just not quite as amazing as I thought it was when I first saw it. I guess this is actually kind of a dumb realization, but CYE is good enough to where I'm still a little bit disappointed.

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

I think I always identify with Jerry, even in situations I don't identify with.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

and he (the actor more than the character) is a big part of what makes the first show better for me

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

My British flatmates love Curb but I can't get them to sit through a Seinfeld episode. Might be the slap bass and laugh track.

richardk (Richard K), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

IT IS KEYBOARDS NOT ACTUAL SLAP BASS

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:53 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i've been trying to watch ver 'feld, but the lady won't stand for the music/costumes/sets.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:55 (twenty years ago)

maybe CYE's fundamentally suburban milieu is easier to translate to the world than Seinfeld's NYC? (also, the accents)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

you make it sound like you're going out w/ margaret thatcher

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

maybe Seinfeld was such a big hit in America because it's in no sense the NYC of SATC - no fashion involved

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:58 (twenty years ago)

it's very middle-class 70s-80s

more about this "popup book dvd acccess" plz?

richardk (Richard K), Monday, 7 August 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

well, you remember how you would pull a tab in a popup book and something would, well, pop up from somewhere on the page? same thing here except you pull a tab and a dvd pops up out of the top and one out of the bottom. cute.

sunny successor (katharine), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

have they improved the actual DVD's though? The first 4 wouldn't let you play all episodes back to back, and you couldn't skip chapters in the actual episodes themselves. vpoor.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

beats me. i play them one at a time.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
i got the fifth series today, wouldn't be surprised if i watch them all tonight.

some of the blurb descriptions on the dvd box are great,

Larry dishonours a Japanese art dealer by disputing his claim that his WWII veteran grandfather was a kamikaze pilot ... Larry also suspects that the Bingo game at his fathers nursing home is rigged

Cheryl hosts a Passover Seder during which an old woman faints, a child chokes, and Larry ruffles feathers by inviting a known sex offender and picking a fight with a local doctor he believes has been stealing his newspaper

and i believe Seinfeld season 7 comes out next month, which is just monster.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

we are taking a looooong time to get through these. theyre good though. getting better. im pleased to be done with the whole season 4 'producers' storyline.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

only managed 8 episodes tonight, that Ski Lift one is hilarious

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 14 September 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

Wiki says: "After months of speculation, HBO has officially confirmed that there will be a 6th season of "CYE". Production offices opened in September 2006. The new episodes will air sometime in 2007 and at a post Emmy show for E! News on August 27, 2006, Cheryl Hines confirmed that the sixth season would begin filming in October 2006; however, she is uncertain of the air date."

The show's funny, but I spend a lot of time during the episodes thinking "Why doesn't he just do this?"

Dog Latin's script up there wasn't too far off. "Ski Lift" was okay, but as soon as he tucked those edible panties into his jacket, I knew that they would come back out at a most inopportune time.

At the end of that episode, he calls Richard Lewis on a cellphone. HMMM. WONDER WHO ELSE HE COULD'VE CALLED DURING THE TIME THEY WERE STUCK ON THE SKI LIFT.

Or is that supposed to be the humor of it?

the sequence where larry finds out hes adopted and starts off to find cheryl was gold. made the entire season finale.

also larry looked like henry winkler in heaven with hair.

HMMM. WONDER WHO ELSE HE COULD'VE CALLED DURING THE TIME THEY WERE STUCK ON THE SKI LIFT.

To be fair, it was Rachel's phone. (But presumably, she could've called someone, since she was so freaked out.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 16 November 2006 07:49 (nineteen years ago)

Baaderonixx how do you know about this show?

richardk (Richard K), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

does this mean even more screaming in season 6?

kenan, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, is that article implying that she hooked up w/Sheryl Crow?

Jordan, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

I know, the construction here is mindboggling:

Though the Post's report says that the official word is "very amicable, and no other parties are involved," the announcement follows closely upon "An Inconvenient Truth" co-producer Laurie's well-publicized tour of the US with rocker Sheryl Crow, who just adopted a child.

nabisco, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I didn't get that either. Maybe that she was banging what must surely be THRONGS of male groupies on the road? And what's with pointing out that she has made some of her own money?

kenan, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

"Though they claim no one else is involved, LARRY DOES KNOW THIS CHICK NAMED LINDA IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN"
