if i understand the it-s-all-a-bit-racist argument at all, the fundamental point seems to be that you should avoid caricaturing features on a Black person (in this instance) where the result resembles something that has previously been used racially. although i understand the sensitivity, i think that's too extreme, and however lame the bottle opener is, the caricature is more than justified for this individual. is there more to the argument that i'm missing? if not, we won't get any further than agreeing to differ.

I mean, it's fairly obvious from the posts from LJ and Ailsa and Onimo etc that there's a big cultural divide here but the "it's not racist" argument is dubious even if the bottle opener in question was made in the UK, as opposed to say Spain.
