wait i was totally looking for the new itunes earlier today, had no idea it was out. ended up downloading tomahawk instead, which i think might be totally awesome?? at least for more "social" situations

(you just search for whatever song you want and it finds it locally, on soundcloud, youtube, spotify, etc, and plays it)

Now I just feel bad, I installed iTunes 11 at home and it did the "updating library" part in about five seconds

Has anyone here ever ordered from Expercom? (Apple reseller based in Utah.) They can do custom configuring on an iMac and maxing out RAM to 32Gb with their memory would cost $200 as opposed to $600 with Apple memory. Good idea, bad idea?

I am afear'd that 16GB may not be enough, but my 32GB iphone 3GS is currently half empty

Running iTunes 11 on my new maxed out MacMini. It's faster but the sheer size of my library combined with the slower connection (USB -- don't ask) means I really need to get a Thunderbolt drive here soon, because searching the library causes the spinning wheel to kick in each time for at least a minute.

search is not search the mp3 files, it's searching the itunes database. the database is not big even for a big library, and is likely not the problem even if you've managed to set it up so the DB is on an external drive (not sure if this is even possible tbh)

Other than missing the song list sorted by artist / subsorted by album with cover art view that I used 90% of the time, I actually really like this update, more than I thought I would.

The "up next" thing is great and I actually prefer the new search to the old one.

is itunes dj/party shuffle gone?

you can definitely have the DB on an external drive - I do (can't remember why...). I do wish itunes was better with "large" libraries, though, it seems to be a real pig once you get past 1tb or so.

The database is on an external drive and is about 2.4 TB.

By DB, caek means the iTunes Library file. If this itself is 2.4TB I shudder to think how big the total size of the library might be.

(My Library file is on my internal drive but all the music files themselves are on the external drive)

That's not what I meant tho. Column browser is on only on the top now. No option for the side

You can get the old one back by clicking on the little magnifying glass in the search box and unchecking "search entire library"

Really expected this to be shit, but it feels like a real improvement!

i really miss the various album cover things, but the little pop-in album art/playlist box is kinda neat, mostly how the background color is matched to the album picture itself

YAY MINIPLAYER -- the only thing I don't like about iTunes is not having an easily visible "what song is playing" in the corner of my screen and now I do!

bought a new 15-inch macbook pro today. retina looked pretty sweet but couldn't swing the $$$ for it.
