Wait till you get to S3 dude, I found that shit devastating.

I think he's a bit of a genius.

been thinking about the Late Show episodes a lot, that's gotta be his most brilliant moment as a whole

frogbs, Thursday, 29 November 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

that said I really wish we didn't have to wait a month to see all of them, they're much better if you watch them in a row

frogbs, Thursday, 29 November 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

He's so good at observing the way people interact. He could totally pull a Woody Allen and move into serious film making if he wanted.

i suspect that's coming down the pike

Not just that but also the weird thoughts people have when they've got nothing to do, i.e. the bus "fantasy"

Getting tough to keep my wife watching season 3, and she's a fan.

I agree that CK is some sort of genius. If the stand-up alone didn't convince me, I've been convinced by the fact that over the past few years literally every single time I've seen or heard him interviewed he's been funny, perceptive, honest, touching, etc., which is more than I can say for most comics with half the exposure. I guess Chris Rock used to be like that, but he really hasn't been out there as much as CK lately, and I wonder if he ever was.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 6 December 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)

he basically said he thought some of season 3 wasn't so good; hence the time off to improve the show

I really didn't like the cliched kooky indie woman played by (naturally) Parker Posey, otherwise Season 3 was just fine.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Thursday, 6 December 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

i thought he was sort of doing her as an anti-cliche. like someone seems "quirky" and appealing and they're actually scary and sort of crazy.

s.clover, Friday, 7 December 2012 00:21 (thirteen years ago)

Anti-cliche is just the pretentious form of cliche.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 7 December 2012 16:13 (thirteen years ago)

Sure, but Louis is always playing with and exploring expectations and pop cliche (another thing he's got in common with woody Allen). the story starts with him lusting after an unobtainable woman, who he talks to and it turns out the fantasy doesn't match h reality. Although PP is the "star" of that episode, its not really about her at all, but about Louis's changing expectations, no?

give me back my 200 dollars (NotEnough), Friday, 7 December 2012 17:10 (thirteen years ago)

I think the usual MPDG takes pity and interest in the slubby dude and transforms him, which is almost the opposite of what happened in Louis.

god, the eddie episode was brutal. I don't know if I can finish out the season. definitely not gonna start season 3.

乒乓, Saturday, 15 December 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

That and "God" are the most depressing/intense episodes - don't think anything in S3 really approaches that.

Simon H., Saturday, 15 December 2012 23:43 (thirteen years ago)

man the USO episode made me tear up and cry a lil'.

乒乓, Sunday, 16 December 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

USO episode is very life-affirming and really full of love (which isn't exactly what I go to this series for but of course louis it turns out does it better than anyone else).

I continue to liveblog my watching of louie long after everybody else has finished

was disappointed with the posey episodes because the strength of the shoe really has been louie encapsulating 'real' people (or archetypes) into these little figurines in his episodes but I'm still not sure that manic pixie dream girls actually exist irl (also kinda my beef w/ chløē but I think louie was cutting more into the fantasy-realm part of the show with that ep)

乒乓, Monday, 31 December 2012 16:13 (thirteen years ago)

feel like I have to acknowledge louie's wardrobe at this point too - I love that his jackets and shirts are so functional and basic and exactly the kind of clothes you would expect him to wear - like that big shapeless jacket he wears with the faux fur lining, the crew neck long sleeves always w/ that triangle stitched below the neck (what's the name for that kind of neck)?, dark colored t-shirts, never ever a collar

乒乓, Monday, 31 December 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

it's true, artistically this has been, as sullivan would say, a really big shoe

some dude, Monday, 31 December 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

also i've been waiting for someone to make the standard wardrobe of fat white guys who don't care how they look seem noble and dignified, thank you from the bottom of my heart

some dude, Monday, 31 December 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

seeing him tonight in baltimore. wonder if he'll do any newtown material?

you are my capitalism (spazzmatazz), Monday, 31 December 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

finished season 3 - prob best scene I've seen recently that was set in china

i know a sorta WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY AND PULL YOU INTO THEIR HOMES message is maybe a little pat, but i feel like the story had enough use for it that it worked

yeah, true, but feel the need to point out that there's also a gross underpinning to this, the power dynamic between the West and the rest of the world

乒乓, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

also january in beijing be hella cold, 12 degrees in beijing right now ^_^

乒乓, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

Louie: France *in Mandarin, pronounces it wrongly* [perhaps pronouncing it like 'melon'?]

louie pronounces it 'fǎ guā' iirc which kinda sounds like "shǎ guā" (傻瓜)which means 'idiot' (literally means 'stupid melon')

乒乓, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

haven't seen the show, but i heard this guy has a pretty masterful sense of rhythm

mookieproof, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

he is very ratchet

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

Lady leads Louie into the house.
Somebody: Someone's here to eat.

he refers to louie as a '洋人'which means foreigner or more specifically a westerner

乒乓, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 17:36 (thirteen years ago)

I'm still not sure that manic pixie dream girls actually exist irl

that ep reminded me a LOT of a girl i knew in new york, especially the exhaustion and actually-i-'m-not-that-into-your-manic-spontaneity aspect that can set in extremely quickly
