grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 31 July 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

What a world.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 1 August 2005 06:57 (twenty years ago)

hey glasgow. do any of you want to try edinburgh on friday? not only is there the gauguin exhibit during the day, but there are loads of fringe festival preview shows by night, including this one. Or Hedwig! Anyone? Anyone?

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, that (first one) looks like it has the potential to be head-shakingly awful. Count me in! (if I haven't made it out of the country)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 1 August 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

I shook Princess Anne's (gloved) hand.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 1 August 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

my dad accidentally waved his arse at princess anne, many moons ago. or was it margaret? i forget.

more recently, i snubbed prince philip. he stood behind my desk and tried to engage me in conversation about sub-editing. i ignored him, because i disagree with his right to exist. he fucked off to talk to my boss instead; i tried to run over his foot with my chair but missed and knocked over my bin instead.

ah, it's all coming back to me, the great royal visit of ... whenever it was. stet wore a suit especially for the occasion, the big royalist lickspittle. i think he even combed his hair into a forelock so he could tug it.

there was an unfunny incident with a singing fish as well. crappy days.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 1 August 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

In other news, I will no longer be coming out for Cathy's birthday greekness, neither shall I be going to Edinburgh. Instead I shall be in Spain! On holiday! Wooo!!

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

Well done, Madchen. I nearly bumped into her when I was a small child, and I got the autograph of that bodyguard who saved her from an assassin's bullet, or something. It was at some kind of horsey eventing event. Splish splash went the horseys in the pond.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

where was anne?
and what the hell was prince phillip doing in the newsroom? a royal visit to the h3rald???
woo hoo spain!

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

and what the hell was prince phillip doing in the newsroom?

a downtable shift.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

I nearly trod on the Queen Mum at the Durer show at the Royal Academy many years ago. Turned around after scrutinising a picture close up and thought 'who is that tiny irritating woman with the hat.. and the burly minders... oh...' Underwhelming, since my republican hackles hardly rose at all. Sorry grimly.

alext (alext), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

i had loads of fun stalking charlie around moray. i very nearly got to peek up his kilt as he climbed onto a lifeboat. but... why would i want to? yuck!

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

hello folks

i am going to be trying glasgow hopefully for just the one night on the 13th august (that is the saturday). Hope to see some of yous there... driving up in the morning or maybe PLANE (i haven't checked the practicality of this).. i think i'm going to be socialising at the woodside in the evening. perhaps sneak to that pub across the road for a quick karaoke (if that still happenes), i don't know if i still remember any words for any songs though.

(happy birthday cathy!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

I will definitely be Trying Glasgow More at some point in September.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

That pub is shut, Ken, you won't be trying that.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

ah well. (burnt down i bet?)

are there other places that i should try pre-winchester?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

The landsdowne! As featured in the Herald!

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

arran sounds fun though!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

It's not that posh. They let me in. And Shearer.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

shearer! in that case definitely not posh.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I can come out for dinner, cathy

: /

I am working on thursday & friday, too

: /

I may get to be a lawyer soon, though

: )

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

You could be the ILX lawyer as we engage in corporate takeovers.

Ken should go to the Landsdowne to follow in my holy footsteps.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

having long hair does not make you jesus ned.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

You need a beard too!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, Ned.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

my lawyer advises me not to make a joke about all the beer in the lansdowne mysteriously turning into water.

not because it would be libellous; just unfunny.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

Visions all, if somehow inappropriate.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

oh no beer turning into water doesn't sound good :(

i hope they serve big portions of bread and fish anyway

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

Couldn't someone have arranged for a miracle last Wednesday when I was in there watching the Artmedia Bratislava debacle? Like turning Mo Camara into a footballer or something?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

mo camera mo' problem

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

I am around Thursday night, though I am still fucking sick and pretty miserable just in time for my holiday : ( Nonetheless I'd love to see people Thursday night, providing I'm not feeling extremely bad, I'm around in the day too pretty much and will probably go record shopping.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Tonight's prediction: Celtic 14 Artmedia 10.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Where were you when the puns were flying on this thread - UEFA Champions League 05/06, this is the thread for ?

(xpost to Ken)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Ronan, unless you are at Glasgow Airport at six in the morning on Thursday, it is unlikely that I will see you :(

Ally, I hate you. (though that is the most likely prediction I have heard so far)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

rats' cocks, this thursday-night thing sounds fun but now i don't think i'm going to be able to make it either. jism. what exactly is the plan: food and then beer later?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

By Thursday I will be ready to go out on the razz. Oh yeah.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

Just as I leave the country. I will miss Cathy's birthday, and Ronan. I will be back in time for Ken though, oh yes.

I like how Glasgow has got a whole lot more social though, recently.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

lucy you'll save some razzage for a week on saturday i hope

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Last night we tried to try the Garage. The bouncers took one look at us and said "you don't look like regulars, sorry". Then proceeded to ID a bunch of large-breasted 15 year olds and let them all in. bastards.

Instead we went to Blanket and danced to Huey Lewis and the News, Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder, and 5ive. It was much fun.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

aw no my breasts aren't very big :(

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

The Garage is rubbish anyway. But it was Monday, it was someone's birthday, we were drunk. Blanket on the other hand was excellent. Chesney Hawkes! Whitney Houston! The Killers! Franz Ferdinand! Salt'n'Pepa! Technotronic! Kaiser Chiefs! MC Hammer!

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

hehe. well i like MC hammer! \o/ |o_ |p/

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

You went out on a MONDAY?

And here I thought you were old.

Sorry.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

stet wore a suit
Yes, because I heartily support the royals. Without them I don't get to be Lord Stet of McSub and bank at Coutts.

Working on thursday, more's the plums, but should be out after.

stet (stet), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

who was talking about butteries? i just had my first ever buttery (from Tesco). it was rank!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

4008

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

whoops

me

4009

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

I was talking about butteries, elsewhere. They are great, but not the ones from Tesco. Go to Aberdeen and get a real one.

I feel old today, Ally. I only went out on a Monday because I don't have to go to work for a fortnight.
