i'm reading "american pharoah," a biography of richard j. daley, and i would like to recommend it to those of you not just interested in daley but in chicago history in general. lots of fascinating stuff in there about attempts to integrate public housing, the black democratic political submachine, etc. etc. i'm learning a lot.

i gave that to my dad for xmas a few years ago! i wonder if he read it. last time i asked if he read it, he launched into a 15 min speech about the power of the daleys but he never answered my question: DID YOU READ IT Y/N

Saw that this morning. Further confirmation that Malort has jumped the shark.

Ms. Gabelick seems a bit baffled by the interest in Malört, which was a hobby for her boss, George Brode, a Chicago lawyer who left the company and its one product to her when he died in 1999.

That article is actually really sweet. Ms. Gabelick is a treasure.

I'm not sure that was ever a shark for Malort to jump. It's all very hilarious to me.

I wonder how many famous people I've been around and not recognized. I would definitely have not recognized Cary Elwes or David Faustino or Barry Williams if other people hadn't pointed them out to me. Hoping I recognize Henry Rollins if I'm ever in his company, though for his sake it'll be better if I don't.

Imma brag here for a sec:

For me cranberries are indispensable with turkey, but the rest of the family dislikes decided to forgot them this year, so I fashioned cranberry sauce from what I could find at the little gas station: Ocean Spray cranberry juice cocktail (made a reduction out of it), strawberry jam, and the sour coating from Sour Patch Kids. Unanimous agreement that it tasted like the real thing.
