happy bday in advance, jenny. you are cool.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 19 November 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks, bro. You're one of my favorites.

carl agatha, Monday, 19 November 2012 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

i'm reading "american pharoah," a biography of richard j. daley, and i would like to recommend it to those of you not just interested in daley but in chicago history in general. lots of fascinating stuff in there about attempts to integrate public housing, the black democratic political submachine, etc. etc. i'm learning a lot.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 19 November 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

i gave that to my dad for xmas a few years ago! i wonder if he read it. last time i asked if he read it, he launched into a 15 min speech about the power of the daleys but he never answered my question: DID YOU READ IT Y/N

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 19 November 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)

I have that book and it is very good.

carl agatha, Monday, 19 November 2012 20:18 (thirteen years ago)

is anyone interested in seeing "the comedy" with me next week? it's only playing at facets this weekend (when i won't be here) and mon., weds., and thurs. next week. it's supposed to be good and dark.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 19 November 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

I could prob. do Wed. or Thurs. -- I'm interested in seeing it.

Jake Roo (jaymc), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

cool. i don't know if that's a thing where you need to buy tickets in advance? anyways my schedule is open next week so weds or thurs is fine.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

i've never been to "facets cinematheque"

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

I actually never have, either. I once poked my head in the video store (do they even still have a video store?) something like 12 years ago.

Jake Roo (jaymc), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

i've been to facets many times! multiple times at least, for various reasons.

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

A friend of chicago k3vin worked there iirc.

dansplaining (dan m), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

dansplaining (dan m), Monday, 19 November 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)

Malort:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303296604577454872180605752.html

cruel silver of hope (Eazy), Tuesday, 20 November 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

Saw that this morning. Further confirmation that Malort has jumped the shark.

dansplaining (dan m), Tuesday, 20 November 2012 19:13 (thirteen years ago)

Ms. Gabelick seems a bit baffled by the interest in Malört, which was a hobby for her boss, George Brode, a Chicago lawyer who left the company and its one product to her when he died in 1999.

"All my life I wish George had made a product I could drink," she says.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

That article is actually really sweet. Ms. Gabelick is a treasure.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not sure that was ever a shark for Malort to jump. It's all very hilarious to me.

Hopefully they'll use that early $ to get some better acts.

dansplaining (dan m), Tuesday, 20 November 2012 22:43 (thirteen years ago)

Tammy Duckworth is on our flight to DC.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

!!!!
that's so cool!! get a pic with the little one!

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

I wonder how many famous people I've been around and not recognized. I would definitely have not recognized Cary Elwes or David Faustino or Barry Williams if other people hadn't pointed them out to me. Hoping I recognize Henry Rollins if I'm ever in his company, though for his sake it'll be better if I don't.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

Haha what problem do you have with Henry Rollins?

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

Did he LIE to you? Because he's a LIAR, yeah.

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:07 (thirteen years ago)

NO! I love him! I don't think he could handle it!

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

First I imagined Jesse and Henry circling each other angrily like a puffed up cat (Jesse) and a bull dog (Henry) and now I'm imagining Jesse climbing Henry like a monkey climbing a very solid, thick-necked tree.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

Not surprisingly, my first reaction to this is "who hasn't wanted to climb someone (not specifically HR) like a tree?!"

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

Henry Rollins seems like a dick, tbh.

Jake Roo (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

He seems unpleasant.

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure he's a peach.

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:48 (thirteen years ago)

Oh? Seiuuksky? <-- That spells "seriously"

My love is not physical - I'm not that not that into muscle studs - but based on his other attributes. I admit I am swayed by his vocal support of us gays, which is esp. nice b/c it's not all about marriage like so much recent support.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Thursday, 22 November 2012 06:38 (thirteen years ago)

"Sleeping i the Devil's Bed" was a staple of my midnight-to-? college radio show.

cruel silver of hope (Eazy), Thursday, 22 November 2012 06:51 (thirteen years ago)

Errrrr, that post was for the Until The End of the World ILM thread.

Happy days from backwoods Ohio.

dansplaining (dan m), Thursday, 22 November 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

Aye aye aye the family. What is it abound hereditary or legal ties that makes people so nerve-grating??

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Friday, 23 November 2012 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

Imma brag here for a sec:

For me cranberries are indispensable with turkey, but the rest of the family dislikes decided to forgot them this year, so I fashioned cranberry sauce from what I could find at the little gas station: Ocean Spray cranberry juice cocktail (made a reduction out of it), strawberry jam, and the sour coating from Sour Patch Kids. Unanimous agreement that it tasted like the real thing.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Friday, 23 November 2012 15:24 (thirteen years ago)
