on rewatching the frug, he really does almost boil over with the seething nihilistic rage toward humanity that i always felt was lurking inside bob ross.

When I was a kid watching this I knew he was a scary guy, he did always seem about two minutes away from completely losing it.

the thing about applebees and chilis and outback and olive garden and calhouns and any chain sit-down family/fun restaurant is that they are not made for big urban centers where there are real bars and interesting places to go. like they're totally not going to kill you if they're your only option but if you're in new york or boston or miami or honolulu why the fuck would you go to a tgifridays?

lol forks, because you're either from out of town or you're such a part of the suburban, homogeneous culture that chains seem natural

or you're poor! some people think applebees is a fancy sit-down restaurant with an actual cocktail menu and stuff. and you can take kids there.

does Sizzler even still exist? I guess Shakey's and Shoney's go in the same category, but they left my area long ago

and astonishingly boring, sure

poor people don't eat at applebees

totally correct; the prices in these places, as noted upthread, are ridiculous. Like twelve bucks for a head of iceberg lettuce with five strips of bacon.

you're such a part of the suburban, homogeneous culture that chains seem natural

well, YEAH

You're damn skippy Sizzler exists. One of my best friends ate at one in San Francisco last weekend, shortly before I ordered a drone rocket assault on the Sizzler and his neighborhood.

i have a really tedious task to do this morning and full eps of the frug are a great accompaniment.

his cooking is really artless, like everything comes out messy and colorless and unappetizing.

people from rural communities visiting the "big city" (lol) regularly used to go to Red Lobster or Olive Garden as some sort of fancy treat. these days, Macaroni Grill has overtaken them, from what I hear

like they're totally not going to kill you if they're your only option but if you're in new york or boston or miami or honolulu why the fuck would you go to a tgifridays?

I think for some it is a fear of the unknown -- why eat a restaurant where you don't know if the meal is going to be good or not vs. knowing exactly what you're going to get at tgifridays.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

my best friend was in goddamned austin one time and he was texting me and i found out he was eating at a fucking chili's.

his cooking is really artless, like everything comes out messy and colorless and unappetizing.

eh I dunno. He made a pork roast that looked tasty and the right color and tantalized his catamite long enough to get him in bed with a piece of bread to cover his topas.

we should make a list of all the US giant shitty sit-down family/fun overpriced chain restaurants; I know they vary from area to area

Golden Corral
Dave and Buster's
TGIFriday's
Cheesecake Factory
Chili's
Applebee's
Sizzlers
Bonanza
Olive Garden
Ponderosa
Macaroni Grill
Red Lobster

I learned from that thread, for example, that there is a restaurant called "Claim Jumper" and it's not supposed to be a "Clam Jumper" which is something I think women wear

that is a list of the restaurants in the "area" (the area of town where people go when they are going out to dinner or shopping or both, usually) of my hometown. y'all are some urbane mfers if going to chili's/macaroni grill/applebee's isn't somewhat familiar to you. i'm not saying i love to go to these places, but they're not where martians congregate.
