I had to leave for work just as that segment started this morning. I was pissed.

My mom called me and relayed the entire interview to me. She likes to call me at work and tell me what is going on on the Today Show. The day One Direction was on was apparently terrifying.

Todd English looks like he could be a Romney. I always think he must have some corpses buried on his property somewhere.

also I ate lunch at Bobby Flay's MESA restaurant in Vegas years ago. It was really, really good. I am not a huge Bobby Flay fan, honestly I went there expecting a horrible chipotle blue corn fever dream but it was not that at all, not a single blue corn or chipotle anything anywhere! But I only gave it 2 stars because Bobby Flay did not a) wait my table or b) personally cook my food. (lol)

x-posts - I hate watch Today over fb with my bff. Which I probably shouldn't admit but hey. The day OD was on was, in fact, terrifying and he totally looks like a Romney. I was actually just thinking that a couple weeks ago when I watched an interview with his creepy-ass sons. On The Today Show.

ENBB, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:37 (thirteen years ago)

if anything Bobby Flay looks belligerent and smug.

You're welcome. I was hoping for the one with the spigot, but didn't want to go too far down that particular GIS alleyway.

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

yeah I loved AB's sciencey stuff, I always enjoyed his breakdowns of why this hardware vs that hardware, that was always cool.

when he smoked the salmon in the hotel room, that was pretty macguyver. and the 'jet engine' ahi tuna on top of the charcoal chimney was badass.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:39 (thirteen years ago)

Alton Brown was a tv production dude who thought he could make a successful how-to show about food. It's basically "alton shows you some facts plus here's how I read you should do this"

Isn't Frontera Grill awful as well? Aren't all of these food network restaurants necessarily awful?

― Mozzarella i Fieri (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, November 15, 2012 5:40 PM (56 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Holy shit, no. Frontera Grill isn't a Food Network restaurant. Rick Bayless opened Frontera Grill in the 80s. Wikipedia says he's been on Iron Chef and a guest judge on some stuff and then he was on celebrity Top Chef a few years ago. He's got a long-running PBS cooking show, too. Also Frontera is crazy super good (questions of authenticity aside).

carl agatha, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

i just realized that emeril is probably to blame for guy in a way

THAT IS ONE BIG PIZZA (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

After finding out AB is a Christian fundamentalist I've been put off by him. He comes across as so smug and douchey outside of Good Eats as well.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

It's worth watching Bayless's cooking show, if only for the weird interactions with his daughter in the earlier episodes.

under minnesota shakedown (mh), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

I'm depressed by the speed at which Brown's lost hair.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

in the way that the manhattan project would be to blame for full-scale nuclear annihilation

THAT IS ONE BIG PIZZA (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

Remember when Emeril had a sitcom?

this will surprise many (Nicole), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

yeah what was his name on the sitcom again? gordon something.

THAT IS ONE BIG PIZZA (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:44 (thirteen years ago)

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:44 (thirteen years ago)

gordon shumway, i knew i'd get it.

THAT IS ONE BIG PIZZA (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:44 (thirteen years ago)

I watched bayless's show for a couple episodes before realizing:
1. Hey, that's his daughter
2. Holy shit, I better stop perving because I think she's 15 in this episode

under minnesota shakedown (mh), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:44 (thirteen years ago)

no nevermind she is his daughter. she is weird.

He definitely has his 'uh' moments, but yeah, Good Eats kinda gave him just the right vehicle. Besides, if he's driven to it all by God's Eternal Love to show you the advantage of how best to cook and eat elements of His creation, fuck, I'll take it.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

xp re: Lanie Bayless - Yeah, it's his daughter and their interactions are still kind of weird and she is also really awkward but that makes me have sincere affection towards her. Also I have eaten at just about every Rick Bayless restaurant (unless he's got some outlets in the 'burbs) and I'm an irredeemable stan and at this point, he could fart on a tortilla and I'd probably try it.

carl agatha, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

I am certain Guy Fieri has farted on a tortilla and served it to a customer

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

probably with a knowing wink and a hearty chuckle

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

I'd be more worried about serving the tortilla.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

He called it a flat air biscuit iirc.

goole, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

xp WAIT Alton Brown is a fundie???? I used to watch Good Eats all the time and then his schtick got kind of old (no, I am NOT going to cut up a frisbee to use as a stick blender shield before pureeing soup what the FUCK is wrong with you???) and then he just really started to annoy me so I feel very vindicated to hear that he's a Christian fundamentalist because it's like somehow I knew all along.

lollllllll flavor-blasted tortilla holy shit

carl agatha, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

What kind of person are you

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

Alfred you are not helping

carl agatha, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

He's mentioned in interviews that he and his family say grace before meals, but I've never heard any mention of "fundie." And if he is, he's never put a bit of it on tv, which makes him okay by me. I'm not going to ding the guy for having religious faith that he practices outside his sphere of fame.

WilliamC, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

he wasn't saying "fundie" he was saying "funnnnn dip, funnnn dip"

乒乓, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

when i go to my mom's house we say GRACE BEFORE DINNER! MIDDLE FINGER TO THE LAW GRIPPIN MY BALLZ!

*runs away*

ums (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

Bayless really creeps me out in a yoga-sleazy sort of way but Frontera was pretty good when I ate there and his torta place in Ohare is absolutely the best airport food ever, to the point that I'd probably eat there if it wasn't in an airport.

joygoat, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

I have him because I was all set to go to Frontera and it was closed on a Sunday. What kind of restaurant is closed on Sunday?

ENBB, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)
