Palringo is a good multiplatform aim client. AirMe is garbage and Shozu is way better and supports tons more sites (facebook etc)
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 27 July 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
is shozu good?
everyone seems mad at their EULA.
― s1ocki, Sunday, 27 July 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)
Link to discus?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 27 July 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)
it was just in the reviews on the store itself.
thx for the palringo tip!
― s1ocki, Monday, 28 July 2008 01:21 (seventeen years ago)
Palringo is definitely nice. Single-app clients are just completely pointless and anachronistic and rubbish now.
― Autumn Almanac, Monday, 28 July 2008 01:34 (seventeen years ago)
ya... esp as you can't run them in the bg. even chat apps are pretty limited in their usefulness... txting is still way better.
anyone else find nytimes is still redonkulously slow? it just loads and loads and loads and loads.
― s1ocki, Monday, 28 July 2008 01:59 (seventeen years ago)
Does palringo send yr account data via its own servers? suspicious about having to make an account w/them.
Have given up on NYTimes. That syncing is awful bullshit. It's trying to pull all the pictures as well, which r dum
― stet, Monday, 28 July 2008 02:23 (seventeen years ago)
Eh, I worry more about using aim & non-ssl websites on open wifi networks
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 28 July 2008 02:38 (seventeen years ago)
New NetNewsWire update FINALLY available
― Elvis Telecom, Monday, 28 July 2008 08:21 (seventeen years ago)
and it's lovely.
― grimly fiendish, Monday, 28 July 2008 09:09 (seventeen years ago)
Anyone know how I can find out if my parents buy an iphone in Japan, if that'll work in Belgium? Yes, I'm a complete moron/noob, but I still want a (cheap) iphone. :-(
― stevienixed, Monday, 28 July 2008 09:12 (seventeen years ago)
and it's lovely. hmm. *Still* no way to mark as unread, and now can't re-read an article -- as soon as it's read, it vanishes.
― stet, Monday, 28 July 2008 13:10 (seventeen years ago)
also it's very stuttery and crashy and can you even collapse folders yet?
― s1ocki, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:50 (seventeen years ago)
just saying.
anyone found a good site for app announcements/reviews yet?
― s1ocki, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)
I think you're posting on it.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
Man, does Remote kick ass or what? Between that and the VNC client, I actually have a useable way to run a media center from my iPhone.
― J, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 03:57 (seventeen years ago)
anyone else getting the eeeeeeendless backup whenever you sync?
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:37 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah. You can disable it if you don't want your stuff backed up.
― Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:47 (seventeen years ago)
i'm getting rid of some unused apps and seeing if it has an effect.
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:55 (seventeen years ago)
damn it always seems to stall out at the 3/4 mark. wtf
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 05:08 (seventeen years ago)
Man it's a hoot making this work on Ubuntu.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)
Making what work on Ubuntu? Yer iphone?
― Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 05:44 (seventeen years ago)
iPod touch to be exact. Spent the last couple nights working on it, a real comedy of errors. "Oh ok, fixed that. What's this? OK got it. What?" Every step met roadblocks for some reason. Finally it turned out the FirewireGUID was wrong for some reason; I fixed that and everything started syncing perfectly.
Still no album art though.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 08:12 (seventeen years ago)
i saw a guy with an ubuntu license plate yesterday
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 13:04 (seventeen years ago)
man you Linux newbies are a hoot
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 13:26 (seventeen years ago)
Ok, who will be first to break their iPhone?
Any good push to talk apps?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)
1Password for iPhone is out!
... and it sucks!
― Allen, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)
yea, what's the point if it doesn't safari sync
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
nyt app seems much faster on its new update
― s1ocki, Friday, 1 August 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)
any other exciting new apps?
― s1ocki, Friday, 1 August 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)
I'm still having a blast with 2 Across. Best five bucks I ever spent for the iPhone
― Mackro Mackro, Friday, 1 August 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
I finally got a 3G compatible car charger, and now I can run my phone's headphone jack into the AUX port on my stereo. Pandora in the car = bliss.
― Pancakes Hackman, Friday, 1 August 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)
what's 2 across?
― s1ocki, Friday, 1 August 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)
Is there a 3G-compatible car charger with Apple Bluetooth headset charger built-in yet?
― schwantz, Friday, 1 August 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)
anyone tried netshare?
http://www.viddler.com/explore/engadget/videos/43/128.662/
― webinar, Friday, 1 August 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)
2 Across is a really good crossword puzzle app where you can download puzzles past and present from the WSJ, the NYT (with subscription), the Onion, thinks.com and several other places.
The one thing not explained properly is how to enter a word. If you tap twice really fast, that brings out the typewriter. You can also also customize what is revealed, checked, and what isn't at your own leisure. There. Have fun.
― Mackro Mackro, Friday, 1 August 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)
Just downloaded netshare - will try tonight.
― schwantz, Friday, 1 August 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)
seems a bit pricey
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 August 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)
Every sudoku game reviewed
― Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 3 August 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)
Well, short answer is it works (NetShare). A bit of a pain to set up, and not something that I would use all the time (especially since the connection dies whenever the phone goes to sleep), but good in a pinch, and FAST on 3G.
― schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 03:00 (seventeen years ago)
and FAST on 3G
Really? How fast? Where are you located?
― Allen, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
NetShare's off the store here again.
Have bought that Google Reader app; is much better than NNW, and also has a stab at doing the Instapaper thing via Google notebook. Nice.
― stet, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:02 (seventeen years ago)
I'm in San Francisco. Not sure exactly how fast, but it felt way faster than when I tethered to my old SE EDGE phone over USB. Almost like DSL.
― schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)
The frickin' store gateway is annoying. Apps that I buy can disappear? Lame.
― schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)
has anyone got the rpg VAY??
― s1ocki, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)
(sequel to OY?)
It was terrible when I played it on Sega CD.
― Allen, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)
ugh someone let me know if netshare ever comes back. totally slept on it :(
― phil-two, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)
What I don't understand is what happens if I sync my apps now? Does it go away?
― schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)
