According to recent reports, Glasgow Celtic were believed to have reached an agreement to sign the talented Baba but, according to Castlebar Celtic’s Noel Coll, no such agreement has been finalised.“We’re still in talks with Celtic but no deal has been agreed so far,“ Coll told The Mayo News. “Noe is still a Castlebar Celtic player and that’s the way it is for the moment. He was in talks with the likes of Arsenal and Man United, and he is in talks with Celtic. It seems that is where he’ll be going,” he admitted.

mayo mayo mayo.... we had a lad captaining birmingham underage teams/ireland u-15 teams a few years back. those that don't turn to pissheads lack the necessary discipline in other ways, or injury takes em i guess? cousin of mine got as far as goalkeeper at kilmarnock reserves back in the day, they paid him enough to get shtuck into a barrel a pints every night, fair fucks to the lad he had a great 1997. digs ditches now.
tough enough to even get noticed this far west, there's no infrastructure for spotting and developing the talent. added to that the fact that we're decent folk that get schooling battered into us so yer dublin jackeens that don't have to do nothing but mule heroin and kick a ball at the luas all day from the age of 5 get an invaluable early advantage (wenger reckons you never get that chance again, y'know, john giles and eamon agree).
― bill paxman (darraghmac), Thursday, 15 November 2012 02:01 (thirteen years ago)
the GAA takes a lot of the talent too, i suppose. if you're good enough athletically, it's easier to get your picture in the paper on the county team than it is playing for ballyvary bluebombers
― bill paxman (darraghmac), Thursday, 15 November 2012 02:02 (thirteen years ago)
Yah, unless he, I dunno, went on strike to demand to leave it's p much impossible for LFC to justify selling the best player they have by an incredible margin.― pandemic, Thursday, 15 November 2012 00:40 (49 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalinkfor 40m? knowing carra and gerrard have to be replaced soon too without any money to do so? suarez isn't worth holding on to when you could get three good 13m players for him.― "It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." 3 good £13m players?? I think that's way easy said than done. Are Arsenal better for having Cazorla, Giroud, Podolski rather than RVP?? Would Arsenal have sold him to City if he had 5 years left on his contract and would you have been chill with them doing so? Maybe you would, I dunno.
Most transfers aren't sure things so when your club buys someone who turns out to be excellent, so much so that the fee bandied about for his sale is almost twice what you paid for him in the first place then it's maybe an idea to hold onto him.
― pandemic, Thursday, 15 November 2012 07:15 (thirteen years ago)
yeah but suarez != rvp. (and yes, i think i still would.) suarez has bought the club its biggest scandal in the past 20 years maybe and hell, he's doing fine now but looked... not that great up until a month or two ago. 40m for a *good* player is beyond absurd at this point and will at least get you two marcus reus's or some of those fancy shakthar players or whatever abroad, where prices are becoming a bit more sensible when you aren't dealing with city/psg/gazprom.
― "It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 15 November 2012 07:25 (thirteen years ago)
LFC spent £35m on Andy Carroll, £20m on Stewart Downing, £16m on Jordan Henderson in the past 2 years alone. Having faith that the £40m they spend next will be turn out to be the equivalent of 2 Marco Reus's or Willian's etc seems highly optimistic.
― pandemic, Thursday, 15 November 2012 07:32 (thirteen years ago)
You don't sell Suarez, no matter the price. Keep your great players, leave value for everybody else. I did think £30m for Xabi Alonso was a price worth taking, but that was an utterly disastrous course to go down.
Anyway we're talking like it's Liverpool's choice. If/when Suarez wants to go, he will find a way. I like to think his Liverpool career is more interesting than joining a purring machine, but who am I kidding? I just hope it'll be to one of the really big guns, and not in England.

― Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 15 November 2012 09:51 (thirteen years ago)
unfair, Arsenal this season are a fine example of what wise reinvestment of money from selling yr best player can achieve
― only Brod can judge me (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 15 November 2012 09:55 (thirteen years ago)
i kinda think they might be, once they settle...? Relying on rvp wasn't sustainable anyway, given his medical history- contract running down made it a no-brainer and imo they bought well. Attack's not their problem.
Wouldn't sell suarez tho. Too many 'ifs' re: replacements working out for 40m to make sense. Just wish we'd gotten to see him play more with carroll ;_;
― bill paxman (darraghmac), Thursday, 15 November 2012 10:11 (thirteen years ago)
it's almost never worth selling your biggest players unless they absolutely have to go, or just aren't as good or whatever. trading down doesn't work.
― Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 15 November 2012 10:15 (thirteen years ago)
do bigger transfers work out more successful than mid-range or smaller transfers? I've a feeling that fuck all of the larger transfer fees in history turned out worth it.
― bill paxman (darraghmac), Thursday, 15 November 2012 10:21 (thirteen years ago)
he just isnt worth it? there are a few strikers out there you could talk about as 40m strikers and... he's not falcao, cavani, rvp, villa, aguero or benz/hig. being paid 20m more than a players asking price is not something that will carry on indefinitely, less clubs are doing it each season.
― "It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 15 November 2012 10:36 (thirteen years ago)
he's no Torres either
― Number None, Thursday, 15 November 2012 10:41 (thirteen years ago)
anyway, he cost Liverpool 23m so you figure they'd be asking for at least 30m. Add a premium cos it's City and 40m doesn't seem that ridiculous. Not that I think this will happen
― Number None, Thursday, 15 November 2012 10:45 (thirteen years ago)

city & suarez makes no sense, even if they did decide to change tack and do some creative ffp accounting would they really let a dead man walking spend it
either that or txitki wotsit is planning a huge squad overhaul this summer

you guys looked at suarez's goalscoring record? he's phenomenal, world class. he creates a hell of a lot of chances by himself, think he's on 53 attempts at goal this season, around 20 more than defoe who's second. £40 not enough imo.
― Chris, Thursday, 15 November 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)
£40 not enough imo.
not to worry, it's only liverpool who make bids of £40.

should be transfer listed for a typo like that

i've come around to suarez being in the top bracket of players, but at the same time he's not been there very long either imo. The iron is very hot right now, like.

you guys looked at suarez's goalscoring record? he's phenomenal, world class
In the league for Liverpool: 10/11 played 13, goals 4; 11/12 played 31, goals 11; 12/13 played 11, goals 8. I'd call that more 'reasonable' or 'quite good' than 'phenomenal' or 'world class'. It's hardly Ronaldo/Messi-esque. Nor Nistelrooy/Henry-esque for that matter.
he creates a hell of a lot of chances by himself, think he's on 53 attempts at goal this season
He is very creative, but that stat doesn't seem to have translated into anything useful for Liverpool (which isn't necessarily his fault).
