i know i'm one of the only people on ilx who watches *how i met your mother* on a regular basis, but did anyone else see the robin sparkles episode? where robin didn't want people to know that she had

I do not now, nor have I ever, fancied Alyson Hannigan.

one month passes...

This was pretty good.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 06:56 (thirteen years ago)

like i said upthread, i haven't watched this in forever - don't know what's been going on, seems not to matter anyway - but that ending was pretty affecting

j., Wednesday, 19 December 2012 09:09 (thirteen years ago)

i have to say i agreed a 100% with robin's speech to barney... and then she says yes, wtf

Jibe, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

Last minute turnaround by Jason Segel means there will be a season 9. Damn.

Gukbe, Saturday, 22 December 2012 02:41 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

They've gotten back on track again after finishing with all those stupid breakups. The "PS I Love You" episode was genius.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

robin sparkles episodes are always a treat.

s.clover, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 06:26 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not sure what accent they were going for. Definitely didn't sound like Vancouver though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

I think I'm just still watching because I've invested enough time in that I want to find out who the mother is. Looking over this season's episodes, I don't know if I've been that into any of them. I didn't even buy Barney's stupid convoluted proposal scheme.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

Barney's proposal was horrible and no one ever should buy into it. Robin even had a big speech about it but then caved in. Otherwise same as you I've spent o much time waiting for the mother I might as well hang on for a few more episodes. And once in a while there's a good episode, like this one to remind me why I liked this show in the first place.

Jibe, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 20:11 (thirteen years ago)

Confirmed: Season 9 will be the last, the program will end in 2014, and we WILL meet the mother

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

Your post made me realize they could end this show with the biggest fuck you ever. Last episode ends with Ted talking to a girl we can't see and he just says" and that's how I met your mother" without ever showing her.

Jibe, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:04 (thirteen years ago)

I've long had the feeling that that's exactly how they're ending the show.

Ulna (Nicole), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

is it true that luc robitaille was on the show

mookieproof, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

100% true, while wearing an la kings shirt iirc

pull up to the shrink with my feelings missing (m bison), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

I saw 3 minutes of this the other night and was kind of appalled.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 February 2013 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

Not unfair.

Gukbe, Thursday, 7 February 2013 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

at least they're not doing the fat suits.

all time how imho.

that's the sequence I saw.

is James van der Beek sposed to be cool now?

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 February 2013 01:39 (thirteen years ago)

I liked him in Apt. 23

Gukbe, Thursday, 7 February 2013 01:41 (thirteen years ago)

I liked him in Dawson's Creek, don't apprec the faux ironic version

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 February 2013 01:52 (thirteen years ago)

nah, the irony is sincerely meant.

s.clover, Thursday, 7 February 2013 02:09 (thirteen years ago)

Mark my words: we meet the mother, the big reveal is as he is talking to the kids she's been dead for a year and he's asking their permission to date Aunt Robin.

Three Word Username, Thursday, 7 February 2013 08:08 (thirteen years ago)

Mark my words: we meet the "mother", the big reveal is that after all those years of searching for the mother, he realized that actually he was into dudes.

Jibe, Thursday, 7 February 2013 09:37 (thirteen years ago)

I thought those sequences were kind of dumb btw. I just thought it was amusing that Tim Horton's actually named a doughnut based on something from the show.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 7 February 2013 11:36 (thirteen years ago)

I think they just whipped up a batch in the kitchen, unlikely it'll get added to the rack.

Unionville, sour cream glazed.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 7 February 2013 12:27 (thirteen years ago)

Loved all the Dave Coulier jokes.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 8 February 2013 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, loved the Dave Coulier stuff and the, uh, "big reveal"/confirmation that Robin Sparkles was based on Alanis (as opposed to, say, Tiffany).

They just went through a year's worth of storylines in about four episodes (i.e. with all the break ups) because they weren't sure they were coming back for another season. Now they somehow have to stretch out Robin and Barney's engagement for another year (and find a year's worth of stuff for everyone else to do), it could be a long and painful ride to the finish although the last few episodes have given me some hope.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 9 February 2013 12:13 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't realize abby elliott is chris elliott's daughter!

Mordy, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 04:46 (thirteen years ago)

Note deliberate avoidance of showing Robin's left hand in flash-forward scenes (to make marital status unknown), and the maternal feelings ex machina -- my theory is so correct.

Three Word Username, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 09:02 (thirteen years ago)

I keep forgetting to watch this, but it sounds like that may be a good thing.

Ulna (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

Weird, I actually liked the last two episodes.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 19 February 2013 12:05 (thirteen years ago)

unreliable narration stuff was sort of formulaic, but well done.

s.clover, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

That was good.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 26 February 2013 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

Oh, the mother is SO dead.

Three Word Username, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

Too depressing for this show imo. Also, the kids would want to hear more about Mom, not Robin, Victoria, etc if their mom had just passed away.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 26 March 2013 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

I'm starting to think TWU might be right (which would be so lame).

Also, did that episode actually make sense?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 26 March 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

Not really, but I thought it was actually quite good.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 23:46 (thirteen years ago)

yeah pretty great episode. ted and the show can get super emo when wanting to make a point (more the show's strength than its weakness tbh) so while w/ any other show that would read as definite foreshadowing of some kind on this show w/ this character i'm not so sure. when they announced another season i was damn near pissed and stopped watching unless i heard it was a 'good one' like w/ last night but now that it seems pretty clear that yes they will actually have him meet the mother this season i'm weirdly looking forward to next season, i guess they could just do another year only w/ a new character but i'm hoping (and i seem to recall one of the himym dudes saying something to give me reason to hope) that next season will just jump around in time somewhat crazily.

balls, Wednesday, 27 March 2013 01:16 (thirteen years ago)

That'll be interesting. It'll be the last season because Segel is only doing is as a favour really.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 27 March 2013 01:19 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i'd forgotten to what extent he had nearly disappeared post-freaks and geeks, fox wouldn't let apatow put him in the cast (as the lead iirc) of undeclared and then apatow writes a guest spot that ends up being in nearly half of the episodes that air anyway. that ends in 02 and then virtually nothing (some mockumentary jenna fischer directed pre-the office w/ some of her bros, cardellini's in it also, a minor role in some direct to dvd rachel leigh cook movie, 3 episodes of csi as a lab tech) until himym in 2005.

balls, Wednesday, 27 March 2013 02:02 (thirteen years ago)

there are no kids. camera pans out in the last episode and ted is locked in an asylum talking to his hands, with locks of yarn on each one like wigs.

s.clover, Wednesday, 27 March 2013 03:12 (thirteen years ago)

ha s.clover i had a similar thought watching the last ep. it felt really dark and depressing, i half expected ted to say he committed suicide and what we're watching is actually some kind of purgatory where he goes over his whole story but to make believe kids or smth

Jibe, Wednesday, 27 March 2013 04:43 (thirteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Wow, that last episode is REALLY making me think Three Word Username might be right.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 19 April 2013 23:35 (thirteen years ago)

i think i saw the most recent one but i can't think of anything that implied his theory... remind me plz?

Mordy, Saturday, 20 April 2013 00:03 (thirteen years ago)

Well, Barney feeling like he has total licence to perv on other women, even at his wedding, and Ted suggesting he might have the wrong idea, with Barney asking "Why? Because you know my fiancée better than I do?" does make me think that Barney + Robin might be heading for trouble. (I've had a 'cool girlfriend' and Ted's right. It's still possible that I'm reading in too much. I don't think they'd include that whole exchange between Ted and Barney if it didn't mean anything though.) That alone does not imply TWU's full theory but it's another point of support.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 20 April 2013 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

oh i thought you meant the theory that the mother was dead

Mordy, Saturday, 20 April 2013 00:15 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Every time I watch this show I have to remind myself that I deserve everything I get for sticking with it. Everything.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:28 (thirteen years ago)
