my buddy wrote this story a few years back about his path to medicinal marijuana - http://www.westword.com/2009-09-10/news/medical-marijuana-is-a-pot-of-gold-for-dispensaries/
some kinda weird hoops to jump through but not a huge deal.

it is very easy to get weed in denver, not sure about elsewhere. there are dispensaries on every corner, every street. LIKE, WAY MORE THAN I WOULD EVER EXPECT. I think all you have to do is go in and complain of your ailment and shell out $100 and they'll give you a card. Then you have to register with a dispensary. You can't just walk into any of them.

homosexual II, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway it's been good for CO on the whole, I think. I know a lot of people who are contracted growers who make money growing marijuana. Lots of retail space being leased for dispensaries.

homosexual II, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:30 (thirteen years ago)

And since we decriminalized it in 2004 (I think?) a lot of people are pretty open about smoking pot. Like, on a smoking patio at a bar it's not surprising for people to be smoking pot

homosexual II, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

when I was in CO this May a local told me there's more dispensaries in Denver than Starbucks in the whole state

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:36 (thirteen years ago)

the pot industry has basically saved the alt-weekly in Denver (which i linked to above), so that's an ok thing too.

tylerw, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:40 (thirteen years ago)

Love you, Colorado.

You generally go to a weed doctor and give them $100 or so and say some keywords they want to hear like "loss of appetite" or "insomnia" or whatever. Then you have to go back each year for a renewal which is generally a little cheaper.

am0n, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

I do have family in the Springs, good memory! But I'm moving to AZ (cheaper rent and warmer winter...I love CO though). I actually just got back from my gastro doc, and they printed out my records cause I told them I was moving. Can I go to a legit doc w/that and get an rx or are $100 weed docs the only route?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)

I have no idea what AZ is like but I don't think it's ever really a true prescription per se. It's more like a special card that is recognized by the dispensaries and maybe/maybe not somewhat regulated by the city/county/state, depending on where you are. I'm not sure that regular GPs are set up to deal with that. But maybe they can just write a note or prescription and the cards aren't necessary?

SPD seized a bunch of my marijuana before I-502 passed. Can I have it back?

No.

ou th (anky), Saturday, 10 November 2012 05:23 (thirteen years ago)

they also won't give you back the years of your life they took when they jailed you for non-violent marijuana possession. sorry!

Mordy, Saturday, 10 November 2012 05:26 (thirteen years ago)

they'll make it up to you by smoking you out.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 10 November 2012 06:22 (thirteen years ago)

I'll never forgive the SPD for the riot control tactics in 1999, but I commend them for being pretty good-humored about the pot law.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 10 November 2012 06:27 (thirteen years ago)

According to data from the National Institute on Money in State Politics, pro-marijuana political action committees out-raised opponents 8 to 1 in Colorado. The Washington, D.C.-based Marijuana Policy Project and Ohio-based Progressive Insurance executive Peter B. Lewis contributed almost $2.1 million of $2.4 million in pro-pot donations.

Will police officers be able to smoke marijuana?
As of right now, no. This is still a very complicated issue.

乒乓, Thursday, 15 November 2012 05:04 (thirteen years ago)

A bunch of WA counties essentially said fuck it and have already dropped all pending small time possession cases and won't prosecute any new ones.

Also realizing that my last teaching day of the semester is the first day after the law kicks in, guessing a couple of my students will be pretty fried.
