so happy we're not such huge assholes as to make it illegal twice.

'til the end, my dear (arby's), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

Speculation in the newsroom that Graves wants to try again in 2014 and a recount would've just been too much bad mojo.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

So thrilled that, honestly, I can't be bothered by the fact that there are at least 1.4M bigots in this state who committed, to me, an unforgivable act.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

I <3 my home state! (at least most of it)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

so in a fit of post-election pride i went on a tear of "civic-minded" blogs and such yesterday, and was surprised to learn how much stuff the met council has cooking right now. how did i miss a new saints stadium in lowertown??

someone tell me: is mpls/st paul particularly unique in the quantity/nature of our municipal developments? how come no one pushed for the riverview corridor LRT, how boss would that have been?? is the transport interchange really gonna help downtown double its occupancy?? also wth duluth is also putting in multimodal transport hub, with plans for high-speed?? will Stars FC announce this afternoon that, in addition to new ownership, they're going to develop parade stadium which btw is totally right next to the projected site of the van white stop on the southwest LRT??

also this:

Q. What happens if my cart is missing or damaged?
Please contact us for assistance. Scavengers, graffiti vandals and kids having fun can target your cart. Place your recycling cart at the collection point the night before, or on the day of your collection, and move it away from the curb after it has been emptied.

there's just something so commonsensical and relaxing about seeing language like this on a "govt" website after months and months of ppl yelling slogans at each other. plus single-sort recycling is like a perfect example of a govt initiative that conservatives might feel obliged to oppose if it weren't so fucking useful. NO ONE LIKES TO SORT THEIR RECYCLING, YOU'RE WELCOME

also i called 311 (on election day no less) to report/advise on some bike-related signage in my neighborhood and someone called back the next day to ask me about it. AND said that my idea had already been pointed out by other ~concerned citizens~ and that plans were already made to address it

Think the getting help for anger part is the most heartening to read.

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Friday, 29 March 2013 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

Barnard said his anger issues stem from how he feels KQRS is run, plus the federal and state governments.

ums (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 29 March 2013 22:10 (thirteen years ago)

Still, for a personality like him to admit that he ALSO has a problem...

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Friday, 29 March 2013 22:35 (thirteen years ago)

What happened to personal responsibility? Get a load of this guy! Getting high and acting crazy and blaming it on his employers and the government. Check out this economy! This guy's complaining that he's got a job. I know a lot of people that wouldn't complain about having a job. But that's the kind of guy you get nowadays. It's not my fault he says. We'll I tell you I've had enough of these clowns blaming their own personal failure on other people--getting high because it's fun...and abusing what abusing wine and pills? Is this a man of today or a woman from the 1960s? [laughter] You can't tell the difference. Saying the government made me angry. My job made me angry. My kids made me angry. Get a life, loser, and suck it up like my dad. At least when he passed out on the couch after yelling at mom it was a can of beer that rolled out of his hand, not a bottle of rose. *honk honk* *whooooosh* *faaaaaart*

The Year Without a Summer (also known as the Poverty Year, The Summer that Never Was, Year There Was No Summer and Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death)

Whoever coined that last bolded part should rule us all like an immortal god king

My Chemical Romance did 9/11 (jjjusten), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 19:52 (thirteen years ago)

The Year Without a Summer was an agricultural disaster. The unusual climatic aberrations of 1816 had the greatest effect on the northeastern United States, Atlantic Canada, and parts of western Europe. Typically, the late spring and summer of the northeastern U.S. and southeastern Canada are relatively stable: temperatures (average of both day and night) average about 68 °F (20 °C) and 77 °F (25 °C) and rarely fall below 41 °F (5 °C). Summer snow is an extreme rarity. oh wait is that docter pepper, hey broooo

In the spring and summer of 1816, a persistent "dry fog" was observed in the northeastern US. The fog reddened and dimmed the sunlight, such that sunspots were visible to the naked eye. Neither wind nor rainfall dispersed the "fog". It has been characterized as a stratospheric sulfate aerosol veil.[6]

aka Minnesota right now.

monster_xero, Thursday, 18 April 2013 19:49 (thirteen years ago)

no way, you're going to end up with a year without a spring or fall. It'll be snowing or 40 degrees for 3/4 of the year and 95 degrees and humid the rest

:(

I feel like this is what weather in MN was always like? There was maybe a week transition period where the temp was in the 60s and then suddenly BAM summer

Call me at **BITCOIN (DJP), Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

Right. We're not even losing spring right now. We're losing summer.

cacao nibs (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:20 (thirteen years ago)

I'll be in town next weekend and I wouldn't mind it if the snow was washed away by then. So get to work.

The editor I worked for at my first job edited a middlegrade novel about a family on the frontier during the Year Without a Summer. Please note that I did not work on the jacket. Frozen Summer
