Sara Cox would appear to live across the road from me, or in my street at the very least

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

bobby gillespie, years ago, at a werner herzog film at the nft.

Hey, I sat next to that gimp at a Cecil Taylor concert, but that was probably about 14 years ago. Always a mystery to me how a man of such taste can make so much godawful music. Wish I'd have asked him...

NickB (NickB), Monday, 6 June 2005 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It is funny that this thread started with a Keanu sighting in SF, and now I have squared the circle by walking past him in NY the other day. Ah, the endless cosmic joust.

This is highly unfair as I didn't walk past any slebs the whole time I was there (to the best of my knowledge).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Paul Morely on the tube yesterday, got on at Archway and got off at Euston. Had an unposted letter in his pocket. Not strictly a celebrity, but, well, this is ILx.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

fucking hell! that's *real* celebrity, and it means he's local. excellent stalker detail too, thx.

N_RQ, Monday, 6 June 2005 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I've sat at a table to Bobby Gillespie in a couple of pubs in my time as well. Once, very drunkenly, me and my pal decided to see how long it would take to piss him off by pointing out his existence at a high volume every few seconds (answer: not very).

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes and I saw him at Archway a few weeks back, he must live in the area now. Never mind all that tho, yesterday I saw... RONNIE CORBETT!!!!!!!! Boy, was I excited. The strange thing is he was taller in real life than he appears on screen and it usually works the opposite way.

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

if gary indiana counts as a celebrity

this might be stretching the defintion. I could imagine him STALKING & MURDERING a celebrity, though

m coleman (lovebug starski), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of these are very impressive.

I believe Gillespie Jr is called Wolfman.

I once saw Terry Scott. He was licking an ice cream.

But Ronnie Corbett is very much the man of the moment, so Dadismus is in the lead.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Gillespie Jr. is called Wolf, which was Hitler's nickname

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, remember when Neneh Cherry named her son (or maybe daughter?) Tyson and the next week he got sent to prison for rape (Mike that is, not Neneh's offspring)

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Wilmer and... PINK at the Standard rooftop last Sunday. David J was also wandering around and hanging with Peaches.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 10 June 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw amy ray of the indigo girls in front of the australian embassy to the usa yesterday.

it's odd that i would recognize an indigo girl.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 10 June 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost, it was weird by the way. They arrived together and left together. Great cars.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 10 June 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"Great cars"? Who are you, Adam Levine?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 10 June 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

We are occasionally "of like mind."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 10 June 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Miccio would've wet himself had he been with me at a bar in my neighbourhood last night, as there was his hero Fred Durst with his entourage hanging out near the bar. He's wee.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 11 June 2005 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Should I really avoid this thread? I have good sightings, but maybe it's boring since I hang out in Hollywood anyway...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i saw al goldstein today. he's lost weight.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Wilford Brimley at Psychobabble a couple of days ago. He looked grandfatherly.

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I not only saw but actually spoke to Steve Davis at a Magma gig in Paris a few weeks ago. I think it reflects badly on me that this was one of the greatest moments of my life thus far.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm still trying to catch my breath after reading about that 2004 Deborah Mailman sighting. Dude, Kelly is my absolute favorite character off "Secret Life Of Us"!! She is the coolest!

Me -- well, about a month ago I ran into a local celeb. I mentioned this in another thread, I think; I was working at an election and a local TV news anchor who looks a lot like Mr. Spock and his wife went in to vote. A little over a week ago, Mom worked at the runoff and spotted them again. He looks more human-like in person, but I was really impressed by how normal his wife looked and acted! She's not a skinny plastic surgery bitch -- rejoice!

Oh, and we're having to get some work done at the house, and one of the people we've most recently called up for help was one of my dad's former cowworkers. He now works at the SBC Center -- apparently he ran into Al Michaels before Game One of the finals and said Michaels was genial and was carrying around a bunch of grapes. I would've asked about Alanis but knew he probably wouldn't have known who she was so I didn't.

The Kind and Benevolent Oracle of Dee (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Another reason why my current gig rules: Sandy Pearlman, producer of the Clash and Blue Oyster Cult, was up in Toronto today to promote his new digital music initiative. I was expecting some guy with over the top rock persona but he was surprisingly introverted and non-cliched. Cool guy.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Adr1an Chil3s, walking down my street on Sunday moring on his way to play football in the park. No idea he lived close, and didn't even recognise him until he opened his gob and started talking.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't leave the thread, you're the Mary Hart.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I exchanged banter with Ulrika Johnsson on Sunday night at War of the Worlds - she caught me nicking one of McFly's water bottles (mine had been nicked by someone else already) and made me give it back. I cracked a funny (which I can't remember for the life of me) and, when I handed said mulleted dude the water, Ulrika told me I was going to go to heaven.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, in the past couple weeks I've seen Chloe Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst and Mandy Moore all poolside for various parties at the Hollywood Roosevelt (I think they're filming some kind of reality show there about promoters, but I don't think we were being filmed). Also, Eliza Dushku at a bar called, uh, "Bar" last monday.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Lots of celebs come to Martha's Vineyard. I saw Michael J. Fox a couple of days ago. He was walking quickly and trying to hide among the group he was walking with.

A few summers ago I was walking on a nature trail in the woods and David Letterman passed me on the trail.

Years ago I waited tables at the airport restaurant. My first day both Lou Reed and Spike Lee came in for coffee.

And then of course there are Clinton, Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Mike Wallace, Ted Kennedy, Mary Steenbergen and the other celebs who vacation here - seen them around.

Eubanks again the other weekend, driving his Hummer through the busiest part of town in the middle of Saturday, tinted windows rolled right down... how's anyone going to see him otherwise?

I really want to blab about who I'm supposedly sitting next to at a wedding this coming weekend, but ought to really not say anything, goddammit. But I saw the seating plan on Saturday for the chapel and my stomach did a fucking barrel roll. Fuck, I'm a nervous wreck today.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 4 July 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

roy moller... primark

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Tariq Ali! In Camden! This combined with the fact that one of my friends had met and had a good old natter with Robert Wyatt the day before leads me to believe THE REVOLUTION IS BACK ON!

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 4 July 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

On Thursday, at Whole Foods on my way to Fort Reno to see the Evens (Ian MacKaye's new band), I belatedly realized that the gray-haired guy in front of me buying iced tea was Henry Rollins. (Not that I had anything I wanted to say to him.)

When I got to the park, I flopped down on an empty patch of grass. Turns out the people about eight feet away from me were the nucleus of the Dischord "VIP section." Before I finished my dinner and scooted out of the group's way, I heard Henry and Ian bantering about "pizza that keeps it real."

Embarrassed, wishing I had a friend with me to whom I could talk, and feeling too socially inept to strike up a conversation with anyone I didn't know, I moved to another part of the park. Then I spot ten feet away from my new seat Greg Dulli, presumably in town for July 4th, with a group of people. (I also had nothing to say to him. He doesn't seem to have spoken with any of the Dischord set that evening.)

Later, as the Evens take the stage, I spot Guy Picciotto. He seems to have stayed away from the Dischord set all evening. And then finally I saw Ian Svenonius, but he turns up at everything, usually about 15 minutes before the end.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 4 July 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

I saw Lindsay again last thursday comparing sidekicks with Eva Mendes at the Roosevelt. They both looked great. Nick Stahl was also in their little VIP corner. Kirsten Dunst was also there but was definitely not hanging out with them (not that she should or would, but celebs often stick together for moral support or something). On another night there I saw Michael Vartan (sp?) - the girls I was with were very excited and said that he is HOTT and has sad eyes (his ex had just married Ben Affleck earlier in the day, but they said his eyes are always like that).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 4 July 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

NickB, you are a tease. Can't you give us some sort of cryptic clue?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 4 July 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Friday, 8 July 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of redheads, interviewed Jean Butler (from Riverdance, Irish dance fame) a week or so ago. Achingly beautiful in person.

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Friday, 8 July 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

here's a weird one. i saw ian mcewan just by warren st tube station on wednesday evening.

and here's ian in today's guardian:

"The mood of a city has never swung so sharply. On Wednesday there was no better place on earth. After the victory in Singapore, Londoners were celebrating the prospect of an explosion of new energy and creativity; those computer-generated images of futuristic wonderlands rising out of derelict quarters and poisoned industrial wastelands were actually going to be built."

and then:

"But terror's war on us opened another front on Thursday morning. It announced itself with a howl of sirens from every quarter, and the oppressive drone of police helicopters. Along the Euston Road, by the new UCH - a green building rising above us like a giant surgeon in scrubs - thousands of people stood around watching ambulances filing nose to tail through the stalled traffic into the casualty department."

that UCH is just opposite warren st, and of course the most recent mcewan novel is set all around this area, and starts with an imagined terrorist attack.

Went to see Star Wars in Edinburgh last night. It was very quiet and I got there early so was sitting in the cinema on my own watching silent adverts when Fran and Dougie from Travis came in. Obviously still in town after the Live8 gig the night before. Exchanged a few words and they obviously didn't baulk at the food prices as I did given they were laden down with Cokes and hotdogs/popcorn.

Also last week my parents went to the blessing of my Uncle's wedding and David Soul showed up, went back to the house and stuff. Really nice guy apparently.

mms (mms), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

I saw Pink sitting at a sidewalk cafe in West Hollywood day before yesterday. Walked around the block, googled "pink" and "tattoo" and came up with a list of her tats. Positive ID on the bar code clearly visible on her neck. Otherwise, a surprisingly pretty, but non-celeb looking girl. Esp. for L.A.

I love Google.

EComplex (EComplex), Sunday, 10 July 2005 00:57 (twenty years ago)

I mean, besides eating at one of the best pizzerias in the city.

Outsider Enter Port City (sexyDancer), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Last Thursday night at the Hollywood Roosevelt: Nick, Jessica, Ashley, Wilmer (after the Dukes premiere apparently). Jessica is HOTT (but not really my type).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

xpost - i dunno. we think her young punk rocker-looking friend must be her "personal assistant."

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Wilmer ditched Lindsay for Ashlee?!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 August 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

I saw Michael Pitt at the MC5/Sun Ra/DJ Spooky Summerstage show. He's just a short skinny greaseball. I was surprised I even recognized him.

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 4 August 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

M1ke My3rs is on my friend's street hockey team. I went to see them play last Sunday and it was kind of odd. He's pretty good though, Canadian and all.
