I'm at a loss myself nbs. Cabaye went off at that point, but I don't think that alone would have of had that effect. I think it might have been a combination of the forward players suddenly realising that they needed to commit, and Suarez thinking 'fuck this' and trying to do everything on his own. Very possibly the latter leading to the former.

Anyway I'm a bit gutted at the result. I wanted it to be one kind of season, but it's the other kind.

The race for fourth is where I see the thrills being this year. Top three and bottom three look settled already, depending how much more Reading have got.

Good lord. I've been perplexed at times by Bren's focus on width, keeping the fullbacks high up and right on the touchline, always available as an inappropriate outball. I never realised quite how inappropriate though.

love how the qpr player in the middle just doesn't bother moving and stays stood there with his hands on his knees thinking 'this could take a while'.

Torn between "stick a steak knife through this season" and desperately wanting our current squad to turn it round. It'd just be that bit sweeter if Maya Yoshida suddenly started being good.

maya yoshida has a very long face, but i don't think he will be troubling the upper reaches of english football long enough to earn the soubriquet and 'why the long face' bantz afforded to a previous and more reknowned eredivisie import

And fuck Tony Fernandes for tweeting that "true fans" are behind Hughes. Listen, buddy, owners don't get to choose who supports the club. Or what they think.

Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Tuesday, 6 November 2012 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

eh for the number of kneejerk morons on at it him on twitter i can't really blame him for overstepping the mark sometimes

just feel sympathy towards him really, fate is fucking him mercilessly for little more than being unfailingly positive. and any silence on his part now will be deafening

any more bullshit contortions like "Players getting used to premier league and different type of teams" though and i will lose my rag with him

r|t|c, Tuesday, 6 November 2012 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

Problem for Fernandes may be that neither he nor any of his executive team have any experience of football, and appear to think you run it like a fantasy football club - get in enough talented individuals and it will all be fine. And presumably they let Hughes have a free rein. Dave McIntyre's interesting about this - I don't think he's written it up for West London Sport yet, but he keeps tweeting that the culture at the club is being set by the owners, and the performances on the pitch reflect that culture.

Today, 7 November, Mark Hughes is still manager of QPR.

i like the gif maker's slanderous assumption that was taarabt

re dave mcintyre he's good but i take his forever sceptical views with a pinch of salt, imo the basis seems always to be "this isnt how gerry would've done it in 93". he is unfair on fernandes too; overaccelerated ambition does not automatically equal culture of short-termism

big picture i would argue we are suffering under the curse of briatore's last lunge; we had a settled side and decent targets when we came up, then he strangled any funds til it was nearly too late, then warnock in desperation and vanity goes too far with fernandes' enthusiasm and money, and from then on we're always patching new layers on failed old layers. i don't begrudge much if any of this summer's overhaul (well ok bosingwa can always fuck off and i'd still have had taiwo) but the execution since then by the management has been woeful and that's all it is really
