i agree the other 2 shoulda been yellows but there was nastiness about that one

I didn't want the old Jonjo Shelvey back
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)
Yep, and that justifies that as a red, but doesn't justify Sahin's inability to time a challenge correctly, and after 4 or 5 very late challenges still hasn't been booked. And Colocini is the only booking of the match, when both sides should have a couple of yellows.

exist even
you also need to add the goals from all those penalties that haven't been given
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)
the popular idea that he isn't a goalscorer has to be shelved now i guess. btw how were liverpool today? i had a rehearsal so i missed it. another day to hope the only problem is a lack of finishing skills?
― Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)
kind of exciting and promising on the one hand, bereft of ideas and far too rushed on the other. as confusing as ever. suarez was incredible.
― Chris, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)
it's really hard to know what to make of them this year

this sounds like it would be enlightening

And finally I come round to the prevaiing point of view at Loftus Road. Fuck off Hughes.
In the 88th minute I shouted to ask (with no expletives) whose fault it was we weren't going to win this one. He turned round and gave a volley back. Sadly I didn't hear any of it.
Then we get this self-deluding tweet from Fernandes: "A game of 2 halves. Players getting used to premier league and different type of teams. Keep calm we will come good. Plenty of time. Many opps to win the game. I'm calm. Won't please everyone. But as I keep saying stability is key."
Getting used to the Premier League? Boswinga? Traore? Ferdinand? Nelsen? Zamora? Cissé? Hoilett? SWP? Park? Plus the players who were with QPR last year?

strachan seems too genial and succesful to be in that group
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)
faurlin isnt playing cos west ham outbustled him somewhat that one time (despite excelling beforehand) and since he isnt a recent megabucks signing he can be safely scapegoated in the usual silent sparky manner
it is bullshit and - while i accept our midfield isnt the easiest concundrum to solve - infuriatingly mindless
― r|t|c, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)
Strachan seems like a prick imo

Actually no, he's a decent pundit and might even possibly be alright company, I just can't stand his chippiness and rubbish 'wit'
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)
QPR should play 4231, which makes room for Faurlin, Diakite and Granero. Diakite is starting to find his game again, though often when he starts his runs it's evident he has no idea where he's actually going to go with the ball.
With Hughes, I'd had my shout, carried on watching the game, then turned to see him glaring straight at me and shouting. Perils of sitting in the front row 10 feet from the dugout. When you shout, it gets heard. Usually, honestly, I'm shouting encouragement, but it is so depressing this season. These are very good players; it's far harder to forgive the results than it was last season when Warnock had supplemented his cloggers with some desperate panic buys.

xpost Interviewed Strachan when he was Coventry manager, and it was one of the more enjoyable conversations I had as a football magazine writer.
huh
do people just shout expletives etc at him all the time
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)
Hughes? He's had a very easy ride from the fans at Loftus Road, precisely because Rangers have been through the entire membership of the League Manager's Association in the past six years or so. They don't want another quick sacking. That's been the only thing that has saved him from far worse criticism. Today was the first time I've shouted at him, rather than the general "Jesus Christ, Rangers …" And there was NO SWEARING. Because I take my son.
― Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:40 (thirteen years ago)
You have your shout, he has his shout, that's the way it should be imo. We're all men here. This has the makings of a witch-hunt like that time Carra threw a missile at the crowd, and I don't like it.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)
Eh? He has every right to shout at me if I've shouted at him. Not complaining at all
― Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:43 (thirteen years ago)
Oh right! I thought that was the reason for the 'Fuck off Hughes'.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:44 (thirteen years ago)
No. The Hughes can fuck off cos the team is playing so fucking badly, and it's entirely in the areas that can be coached: what the team does when they don't have possession; how they defend and attack at set pieces; how they break (slowly and in pairs, not quickly and in numbers); the lack of players getting into the box when we've managed to get into position to launch an attack.
In between times, there's some nice stuff. But at either end of the pitch it's horrible.
― Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
Hughes, not "The Hughes", though he is starting assume "The Hughes" proportions in my mind.
xpost Sorry - see why you thought that. I was just writing unconnected thoughts about the game. But I see they read as if one followed the other.
― Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Sunday, 4 November 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
What did the young 'un make of the incident? I'm not sure whether the right-thinking kid should be thrilled or mortified!
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)
another day to hope the only problem is a lack of finishing skills?
Not exactly. Liverpool had a lot of possession, and looked like they were about to be dangerous lots of times, but didn't quite create the chances. It's not so much that the shooting was awry, more that they didn't quite reach the stage of shooting. Then suddenly with about 20 minutes to go they started carving straight through Newcastle.
(Disclaimer: I was distracted by cooking dinner and may have totally misread the game)

I'm at a loss myself nbs. Cabaye went off at that point, but I don't think that alone would have of had that effect. I think it might have been a combination of the forward players suddenly realising that they needed to commit, and Suarez thinking 'fuck this' and trying to do everything on his own. Very possibly the latter leading to the former.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 November 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)
Anyway I'm a bit gutted at the result. I wanted it to be one kind of season, but it's the other kind.

The race for fourth is where I see the thrills being this year. Top three and bottom three look settled already, depending how much more Reading have got.

Good lord. I've been perplexed at times by Bren's focus on width, keeping the fullbacks high up and right on the touchline, always available as an inappropriate outball. I never realised quite how inappropriate though.
