east river ferry lines should be bad on manhattan side, not brooklyn side, at this time of day right?
― 乒乓, Friday, 2 November 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)
I mean, theoretically, but who knows. are you still in wburg trying to get back? I would just walk.
― iatee, Friday, 2 November 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)
yeah - it would be nice to take it to 34th since leaving from penn station. I guess I should just give myself a lot of time
― 乒乓, Friday, 2 November 2012 20:11 (thirteen years ago)
you can walk to the station and keep walking if it looks like a mess
― iatee, Friday, 2 November 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
It should be manageable at this time of day, just allow at least double the time you'd normally allow. My F commute took about an hour today to do what normally takes maybe 25 minutes. Going back last night around 8:30 pm was a breeze though, even got a seat.

My corny dad joke was to say "do you know if the 930 show is sold out?". By making that joke I was actually meta trolling life itself
― Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Friday, 2 November 2012 22:58 (thirteen years ago)
metro north is free so I saved 20 bucks
the bus lines outside grand central were pretty crazy.
― iatee, Friday, 2 November 2012 22:59 (thirteen years ago)
The line moved and the cops did a creditable job of keeping things safe and organized. I almost wanted to hug the cops that were stuck underground at the miserable 63/lex station all day

I just had Cuomo's briefing on but had to bail when Sen Schmuck came on. Did I hear the 4 & 5 are going Brooklyn-Manhattan now?
― saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 3 November 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)
I feel the most for cops who had to stand in the cold all over Lower Manhattan setting flares and directing traffic in the pitch dark. It's cold and windy down there! Flares are awesome, though.

F getting restored later today, yeah yeah yeah

I was wondering the same thing myself. I think it's true! 10 minute wait between trains but I'll take it!

In what Governor Andrew Cuomo has termed an “unprecedented engineering feat,” the MTA plans to restore nearly 80 percent of subway service by the end of the day today. Currently, 4 and 5 trains are running between Brooklyn and Manhattan with the 5 making express stops in Manhattan. The 6 is running to Brooklyn Bridge as well, and the F, D, J and M trains will return to full service later today. The 7 is now operating between 42nd St./Times Square and Flushing-Main St., and A train service between Lefferts Boulevard and 207th St. will start on Monday.

How many ceilings does it have?
― purveyor of generations (in orbit), Saturday, 3 November 2012 15:17 (thirteen years ago)
that is a zen question that MTA workers have been stuck thinking about instead of cleaning it

Cuomo Offers Hope for MotoristsFor those worried about long gas lines and shortages, elected officials in New York promised on Saturday morning that help is on the way, at least in that state.
More than 8 million gallons of gas have been delivered to service stations, with 28 million more gallons on the way, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said.
Additionally, the military is trucking in 12 million gallons and will set up distribution centers starting later on Saturday.
The fuel will be free, but drivers will be limited to 10 gallons.
“Do not panic” Mr. Cuomo said. “We did have a shortage in fuel delivery,” he said. “That situation has been remedied.”

I have three trains: the L, the G and the M. At least the M is coming back.

considering that the F and C trains traditionally come to a crawl when it sprinkles (anyone else notice that?) it doesn't surprise me

Something doesn't make sense. Surely it was running through the F tunnel at the end of last week. So why should the F notification mention M/E train stops?

Oh, that notice is for the M train. M, F, B and D are grouped together as far as service changes.

argh argh argh, why are they closing those stations again? My commute was finally down to a reasonable 1.5 hrs.
― Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Sunday, 4 November 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)
ah ok wait, n/m, they were closed all along. But I assume they didn't mean to link those to the F, cuz they're not F stops.
― Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Sunday, 4 November 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)
today's map is claiming a lot of things. F and M are running in lower manhattan? Can anyone confirm this first-hand?

I took the F uptown this morning - it was PACKED.
even during normal times like 2 downtown Fs come for every uptown F - today it was more like 4 downtown Fs for every uptown F.
