Tend to think we have about six or seven stock English footballer personalities we rotate according to who deserves it most and Carragher is getting the JT at the moment.

Matt DC, Thursday, 1 November 2012 12:45 (thirteen years ago)

lol reserve to the last eh

but with socks instead of football (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 November 2012 12:46 (thirteen years ago)

carra in no way deserves comparison to jt.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 1 November 2012 13:05 (thirteen years ago)

i'd agree there tbh, as a possible racist he's nowhere near jt or suarez, and as a violent thug he's still some way behind the former.

but with socks instead of football (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 November 2012 13:08 (thirteen years ago)

Also he's from Liverpool so he is not the British Bulldog type either

i'm not fully au fait tbh

Liverpool >>>>>>>>> England > Britain

Good to see Robbie's making an impact in the MLS.

Matt DC, Thursday, 1 November 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

About as well known as Robbie Williams

Hey when these retirement home guys come here they say they like being able to walk down the street like a normal person so idk what the big deal is.

dansplaining (dan m), Thursday, 1 November 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

people in retirement homes always reminisce about what they used to be able to do in the street iirc

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 November 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)

missed an xpost with ronan earlier, just ftr i don't think carragher's racist, and i'm not even sure that i attempted to 'justify' saying that he was, other than pointing out that he injured r song on purpose as a direct link to the point in question, that he maybe didn't help out 'all the players' at the club as much as he'd have you believe. the rest is obv bantz.

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:07 (thirteen years ago)

risible. if there's not enough lolracism "bantz" around at the minute without having to extrapolate something out of a tedious carragher non-comment then idk.

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:20 (thirteen years ago)

idk if that's for me or lg tbh

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:26 (thirteen years ago)

lol, not saying I'm in agreement with it, fully, but how could you think that comment was meant for LG?

boxall, Friday, 2 November 2012 01:27 (thirteen years ago)

idk, there's an argument that lg has gone off on one based on not much more than a 'tedious carragher non-comment' (ie nothing more than v typical ilf funpoking)

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:30 (thirteen years ago)

in a very lg way, love the guy and his work obv

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 01:31 (thirteen years ago)

i think it's wrong to imply he is racist for no reason, i already outlined why i think the follow-up then made it worse, but i'm not going off on one, it's not for me to control what people say.

also, i never called anyone racist. i just said it seemed a bit like carragher was assumed to be racist because of who he was/is or his background, rather than any actual racist incident. that seems pretty clear and it was an immediate leap from a totally bland comment.

it was typical ilx/ilf, i agree, typical of the worst side of ilx/ilf, kneejerk vilification. and that instance is just a bit too hypcritical to be the same as just lambasting somebody for being shit or whatever.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Friday, 2 November 2012 08:41 (thirteen years ago)

it was for you darraghmac. just at the minute you can't switch the news on without some story about how everyone with anything to do with football is a massive racist it'd be nice to expect something a little better from ilf. i mean, the o.p. abt it isn't that bad if you're saying look carra says he's helped every player he's played with but he didn't help this player did he? despite being so obtuse that 3 liverpool fans didn't know what you were on about but after that...

xp

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 2 November 2012 08:53 (thirteen years ago)

LG otm. The casual racist jibe is the worst bantz we do imv, and we do it a lot. It's nearly always bound up in snobbishness too. Kick it out imo. In fact, let's hold an investigation next close season.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 2 November 2012 09:08 (thirteen years ago)

Carragher clearly exaggerated the destructiveness of the Song challenge, such a transparent bid for some Roy Keane-style controversy in an autobiography that no one outside about half of Liverpool would have any interest in reading.

Matt DC, Friday, 2 November 2012 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

Time to get the police involved I think (xp)

was gonna say, all autobiogs obv need this shit in them.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Friday, 2 November 2012 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

I mean seriously I cannot for the life of me imagine why any non-Liverpool fan would want to read a Carragher autobiography but I suspect even less interesting players have put books out.

Matt DC, Friday, 2 November 2012 10:50 (thirteen years ago)

feelin kinda lol but mostly sad about this.

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

not gonna fall out over it or whatever.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Friday, 2 November 2012 10:58 (thirteen years ago)

we say all kinds of spurious and probably orrible shit about lots of footballers day in day out, as ilx wider does about a lot of celebs.

I take on board the points that football doesn't need any comedy around racism etc right now, that's very fair and apologies for that

But can't help feelin this is partly an lfc thing, we've slandered about a thousand footballers over the years here, wifebeating to substance abuse, gambling addiction to marital infidelity, and yeah at times racism/misogyny, thuggishness like intent to injure. Bytimes it seems acceptable and bytimes we're being held to the press code?

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 11:09 (thirteen years ago)

but again the post was dumb and clumsy and i totally accept that.

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 11:11 (thirteen years ago)

Ismael Klata, Friday, 2 November 2012 11:18 (thirteen years ago)

i don't post as much as i'd like to on here anymore so feel a bit ugh that when i do it's calling someone out over shit but that just riled me last night. no hard feelings dm.

jesus, no- not at all, for my part. Post more!

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 11:36 (thirteen years ago)

might fall out with lg over it, but i need to find out if he's for or agin the household charge first

pronounced darraghmac (darraghmac), Friday, 2 November 2012 11:38 (thirteen years ago)

to be fair, i've brought this kind of thing up before and not just from an lfc point of view, i'm fairly sure.

what's the household charge? council tax? get with the programme.

Van Persie and his agent Kees Vos, a long-time family friend, met face to face with Wenger and the Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis. The meeting took place at the manager’s home because he had just undergone eye surgery and was wearing an eye patch.

2.03pm: OttoMaddox asks: "Darren Bent, Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba, Gary Hooper; lots of names are being bandied about but, ignoring unrealistic targets like Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who do you see as the likeliest striking choice for Liverpool in the transfer window?"

Jamie replies:

Why not try and get Darren Bent and Theo Walcott, and recall Andy Carroll, then, with Luis Suarez, Liverpool suddenly have all kinds of options. If they can't get Bent, try Jermain Defoe.

and why not get cameron jerome too? i hear dean ashton is currently available on a free too

sort of amazing how fitba journalists can pretty much know nothing about fitba

rather narrow field of vision there from the normally worldly Carra
