I went to the wedding at the weekend. Free bar, no food => so drunk I had to (ALLEGEDLY) be carried home. ugh something just reminded me that i was supposed to be meeting the family finally over christmas at this super in the woods cottage with showshoeing and midnight mass and stuff and now i am just embarrassing. which i was dreading b/c language gap and culture gap and so many people all at once but i'm really upset that i don't get to suffer through it.

Felt like table last night when I stopped by a gay bar on my own and the three guys closest to me, who were also solo, were all on Grindr or Scruff. I mean, back in my day - well I have no idea how people met people at bars in my day, but they weren't all checking the singles pages of the alt-weekly while out drinking.

And then? After I left I checked both, and the bartender - a very warm and welcoming guy - was active on BOTH apps.

i am meeting B's parents at xmas and he's meeting mine when we go to the east coast in jan. i have a pretty good track record with moms so i'm not really sweating it

i've met M's sister but it doesn't really sound like either of them have a close relationship with their parents (and me neither). he habitually goes travelling over xmas anyway

never got to realize my dream of waking up in nyc on xmas morning - can't really justify not being home on xmas eve when it's an hour away

I was in a bar last night and my two friends were on their iphones...as were the majority of people sitting at the bar. I would rather read at a bar, but sometimes the light is so dim the only thing that works is the light of the phone. I still try to curtail phone use in public drinking holes though--it does not seem classy.

Was nervous as shit about my bf meeting my family way back when, and I put it off for a ridiculously and insultingly long time before a family wedding finally forced the situation. To my intense surprise/delight, it couldn't have gone better. He now has the majority of my family on Facebook now (I don't do FB) and all extended family updates reach me through him these days.

i've met my bf's grandma, aunt, and two cousins. we went out to a bunch of restaurants and did "tastings," then ended up at the Lexington Bar, which is the only conveniently located dyke/trans bar in SF. his grandma drank neat scotch and got hit on by a bunch of ladies. (i will admit, when i found out she was 70, i was like, "holy shit she doesn't act or look a day over 55.")

in other news, i found out through a friend that a former lover (from long ago) tested pos last week. he lives in the bay and though we aren't that close any longer, we still see each other once a month or so and hang out. i just hope he's doing okay.

sorry to hear that, t. if he's keeping up w/ his dr. and meds and otherwise living well, i'm sure he'll be okay.

lex, scruff is like grindr, but supposedly more bear-ish. i mostly use it and grindr to see if i recognize anyone. so far i've seen a couple neighbors, a guy who works at trader joe's (super cute & he contacted me, but it never went anywhere), and my doctor. best of all was when i was at a wedding hundreds of miles from home in the wilds of michigan, the husband of the officiator of the wedding was online. it was cool tho b/c they've got an open marriage. we had a laugh about running into each other that way.

I need an intern. Not an intern, just somebody in the house who'll distract me every 45 minutes with a joke or a cookie or nipples or anything.

I wonder what the client's reaction will be when they get a "hilarious topless cookie chef" addendum to the budget

a friend told me a story about getting lacklustre service in a restaurant from a waiter. they couldn't even pay because the waiter was so distracted behind the bar looking at his phone. they eventually had to ask him via a grindr message to bring the bill.
