there are hints of stewart from the thick of it in his metre and phrasing (i hoped the accent might be leeds but it seems to be london via northumbria via palo alto)

all this exciting talk about ipad minis has convinced me to buy a 32 gb nexus 7

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 October 2012 02:36 (thirteen years ago)

(i mean that earnestly; i played with a 16 gb nexus 7 last night and loved it)

it'll supplement my other things, i won't be trading in my maxipad for it or anything

Even when I like something Microsoft does, they have to present it in the most awkward, worst way imaginable. Sales dudes practically yelling over the customer makes me think they're channeling Steve Ballmer :/

d-_-b (mh), Saturday, 27 October 2012 04:55 (thirteen years ago)

im using nexus 7 right now it's pretty cool but has a lot of problems. If money is not tight I would recommend getting the iPad.

Philip Nunez, Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:05 (thirteen years ago)

but I'm using one right now so

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:17 (thirteen years ago)

really I just want an android device to play with (and pocket occasionally)

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:17 (thirteen years ago)

same here but its pretty frustrating sometimes. one cool thing is you can get a very cheap adapter to attach usb keyboards etc...

Philip Nunez, Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:35 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, I'm expecting frustration (it *is* android), but 4.1 seems pretty mature and I just need to work with something that's not apple after ~4 years

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:53 (thirteen years ago)

^^ this is pretty much the only reason I'm leaning towards a nexus too, and I think I've decided that's not reason enough.

JimD, Saturday, 27 October 2012 08:30 (thirteen years ago)

i've already had a windows 8 BSOD. iirc since 2004, across all the macs i've used, the equivalent has happened like 3 times? one of which was my fault heh heh

DG, Saturday, 27 October 2012 11:43 (thirteen years ago)

win8 is 16 mins old to be fair

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 October 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)

but yes, os x has been rock solid for a very long time

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 October 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)

ehhhh it's not really 16 mins old is it

DG, Saturday, 27 October 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

true, including beta releases it dates back to the churchill years

"Before Vista we never had a defeat. After Vista, we never had a victory."

DG, Saturday, 27 October 2012 22:03 (thirteen years ago)

My main PC is Win7 and has only had one BSOD in two years of daily use, due to a stupid USB PCI card.

Even when I like something Microsoft does, they have to present it in the most awkward, worst way imaginable.

Microsoft can seemingly only do one of two things. Semi-reasonable product, shit marketing (XP/7). Shit product, semi-reasonable marketing (Me/Vista).

maybe good. news. Ive taking over "human interface" maybe means death to skeumorphism?

dan selzer, Monday, 29 October 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

the stitched leather wars have finally ended

lag∞n, Monday, 29 October 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, forstall is considered the skeuomorph freak (as well as bollocksing up siri and maps) xp

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 21:54 (thirteen years ago)

also interesting that the genius behind j c penney has left with immediate effect, and apple's press release forgets to praise either him or forstall for their achievements

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

what's going ooooon i wanna knoooow

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

I thought his predecessor left for JC Penney? The incumbent used to work for dixons (and was therefore an obviously insane choice in the eyes of everyone in the UK)

caek, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:05 (thirteen years ago)

was forstall the man behind check boxes

w g sniffy walgarten (cozen), Monday, 29 October 2012 22:08 (thirteen years ago)

maybe the new itunes was the last straw. "it's curtains for you, forstall!"

shaane, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:12 (thirteen years ago)

This is great news; both these guys were fucking up big time. It was maps finally did for Forstall, I hear.

stet, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:13 (thirteen years ago)

and are they just not letting mansfield leave? i thought he was trying to retire or something.

shaane, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:15 (thirteen years ago)

No, the engineering crews revolted; said they wouldn't work for his inexperienced deputy. Cook threw cash at Mansfield to stay.

stet, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:20 (thirteen years ago)

Dixons guy at Apple was causing me too much cognitive dissonance. He had to go.

Alba, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:22 (thirteen years ago)

what's a dixons and why is it causing dixonance?

Philip Nunez, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

It's a naff, declining UK high-street electrical group. Almost the opposite of Apple.

Mansfield being offered $2m a month to stay has made me consider playing hardball at work.

Alba, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

I thought his predecessor left for JC Penney? The incumbent used to work for dixons (and was therefore an obviously insane choice in the eyes of everyone in the UK)

oh god yes of course sorry

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

was forstall the man behind check boxes

I hear they gave him a form that said 'tick this box if you want to keep your job' and he ticked it and they sacked him

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

(sorry was I being thick there?)

sktsh, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

This is great news; both these guys were fucking up big time. It was maps finally did for Forstall, I hear.

it's horribly embarrassing for apple that its two biggest software train wrecks in recent memory (siri and maps) were driven by the same person. was he mobileme as well?

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

(sorry was I being thick there?)

no, not at all, I had the whole thing arse about

turn left onto bisexual woman (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 October 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

rumours circulating he did flush headphone jack

wow... i dunno if i'd describe it as anti-apple but... wow...

Philip Nunez, Monday, 29 October 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)

Was Siri a train wreck? The first one wasn't great for me, but I assumed that was my guttural Glaswegian mumble. The new version gets me every time. I use it quite a lot.
