did 4 miles yesterday, first run since fucking up my feet two weeks ago, and all good so far. i had some pain after but it was only brief, feel fine today. will prob give myself another week before going out again just to be certain but overall feels sweet that i've only missed two weeks.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Sunday, 21 October 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)
good for you!started using a training scheme about two weeks ago. nice mix of endurance and 'increased pace' endurance runs with ánd without intervals, three days a week. i really enjoy the variation and hope this increases my "intrinsic speed" over the next few months.

What a clusterfuck with the NYC marathon...
― Jeff, Friday, 2 November 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)
Trying to come up with a goal for a half-marathon I'm running in January, so I can calculate some training paces. Current PR is 1:55:12 from a year and a half ago, which I should be able to easily beat. I've run as low as 1:49:XX in training runs. Maybe 1:45ish? May be a stretch.
― Jeff, Monday, 12 November 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
sometimes i miss the meditative space distance running put me in but then i don't miss the aches and pains it would cause me.
― carne asada, Monday, 12 November 2012 21:07 (thirteen years ago)
im bout to go do some distance running over here
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 November 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
Get after it!
Had a couple of bad weeks at end of Oct due to the demands of life but am getting back in. Loving the extra early-morning daylight afforded by Daylight Savings. I'm remembering why dawn is the best time to run, esp on trails in the middle of the woods.
― tobo73, Tuesday, 13 November 2012 01:42 (thirteen years ago)
I've started a run streak in order to get myself through this winter and go over 1000 miles for the year. Going on 7 days now. Of course it help that it is in the 60s in late November.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)
I ran outside for the first time in a week or so -- the morning fog was so refreshing! I also woke up at butt o'clock and had no excuse. Glad I went; it felt good. Would love to have a place to go in the middle of the woods, but I have to settle for dewy lakefront.
― passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)
There are some great trails outside of the city, assuming you have a car. Wish I could get out to them more.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)
what shoes are you all on these days? thinking of buying a new pair as my current ones are starting to be a bit worn. is examining the heel a reliable way of assessing your gait? i originally got it analysed in the shop and judging by the heel (the outside is worn on both feet) i'm a supinator. from what i've read a neutral shoe is fine for supinators?
given it's just come up in the post above, do any of you do much trail running? quite like the idea of getting out to see some countryside.
― Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 22 November 2012 10:04 (thirteen years ago)
For gait assessment I think examining just the heel is not enough. It's also the way you transfer your weight after you've landed on the heel that's important for determining what kind of correction/support you need from your footwear. I think almost every running shop has the opportunity to analyse gait so it'll be part of the buying process anyway.
I'm wearing Mizuno's, not sure about the model though. They're very light and the support is solid. I had to run them in a bit more than my previous pair (Saucony's), not sure if that's because of the shoes or me/my feet becoming less 'flexible' with age..

Got a beer mile this afternoon. I will destroy it. Or destroy myself trying.
― Jeff, Saturday, 24 November 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)
Unofficially 8:49, which is 6 seconds than I ran last year. Not quite what I was looking for, but I'll take it. These are hard.
― Jeff, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:21 (thirteen years ago)
6 seconds faster.
Race time temp, 30 degrees.
― Jeff, Sunday, 25 November 2012 00:41 (thirteen years ago)
Made it hard to open the can and difficult to chug.
Officially time was 8:44, 11th place. I wish we could have an ilx fap of a beer mile.
― Jeff, Sunday, 25 November 2012 23:24 (thirteen years ago)
wait, was this drink a beer then run a mile? if so, good work jeff!
― Albert Crampus (NickB), Sunday, 25 November 2012 23:56 (thirteen years ago)
4 beers, 1 mile.
― Jeff, Monday, 26 November 2012 00:15 (thirteen years ago)
Chug, lap, chug, lap, chug, lap, chug, lap. Glory.

14 days in a row of running. Seems to be going well. I've found that the secret for me to run faster is to not be training for a marathon. Last week I did 31 miles at average 8 min/mile pace, which is amazing for me.
― Jeff, Thursday, 29 November 2012 02:05 (thirteen years ago)
Ran an 8K race today. 36:00 even, a 5 min 7 sec PR! That's what you get by only running an 8K every three years.
― Jeff, Sunday, 9 December 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
Awesome. Jealous of your 14-day streak. Wish I could get my knees and feet to play along with that. Just finished my 30+ mile week in a couple months and feeling good for now
― tobo73, Sunday, 9 December 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)
I actually ended my streak at 17 days. It was fun, but I'm more of a 4-6 day runner.
― Jeff, Sunday, 9 December 2012 18:35 (thirteen years ago)
i ran a marathon in my dreams last night. it was a very realistic dream - i was like "i can't fucking run a marathon, my personal best is only 6 miles!" and every step was incredibly painful, blisters and open bleeding.
― dexpresso (Z S), Sunday, 9 December 2012 19:43 (thirteen years ago)
Time?
― Jeff, Sunday, 9 December 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)
never made it! i dropped into the middle of the race, woke up about 10 minutes of runtime later. one weird aspect was that the course was only 22 miles long - 11 miles in one direction, then 11 miles back, in a straight line.
― dexpresso (Z S), Sunday, 9 December 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)
5K race yesterday, set a 12 second PR - 21:32Today, went over 1000 miles for the year.
Good week.
― Jeff, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)
The other night I caught my foot on a curb while going at a relatively high speed. Was face down on the pavement before I knew it. Banged my head/face pretty good and had a cool welt to show for it. So in summary, pick up your feet when you run.
― Jeff, Friday, 21 December 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)
yikes! glad you're relatively ok, though, it sounds like.
― "reading specialist" (Z S), Friday, 21 December 2012 16:45 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, not much harm done. Mostly embarrassment and some cool scrapes.
― Jeff, Friday, 21 December 2012 16:56 (thirteen years ago)
Ran 13 miles yesterday. It was tough because I've been doing all these shorter distances recently. Also it is cooooooooooold.
― Jeff, Sunday, 23 December 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)
Speaking of cold, I wear this as my base layer these days. It's awesome and I wish I had more. But it is $$$$.

In other news, I've hired a running coach. Basically someone to create training plans, training paces, and realistically tell me what my goals should be. I've wanted to do this for awhile but haven't been healthy enough that I could give it a good effort and make it worth it.
Shooting for a 45 min 10K and 1:40 Half in January.
― Jeff, Monday, 24 December 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)
Man, I hadn't run in a long time. I went out this morning on a four and a half mile loop through some once-industrial landscapes. Must confess I walked almost half of it, but it's a start, and it felt good (erm, mostly).

Can take awhile to come back, but it's awesome to keep seeing improvement.
