no... well it depends on what you mean by "okay." my understanding is that the *legal* issues (which i think are generally regarded as decent proxy for the "moral" issues among journalists) are, was the tape/photo obtained legally -- for paparazzi shots in the US the answer is almost always "yes" -- and does its reproduction constitute "fair use," a question that in some cases might hinge on the public figure distinction. most journalists would argue that a celebrity sex tape constitutes news, whether its fact or the story of its leaking, and justify publishing on those grounds.

AGAIN THOUGH im probably getting some/all of this wrong so lawyers shd feel free to correct.

heh if i were suing someone for defamation my lawyer would argue that i am not. cant really say till im in court though.

If 'this is legal' is Reddit's main defense in standing up against DOXers, then surely it can be a defense for Gawker who doesn't seem to appear to be doing anything illegal either.
