But good question, frogs. I always look forward to hearing more from your inquisitive mind.

don't tell anyone but I think this thread needs some docs (doxx) on account of it being sick (about a guy with a sick mind)
― frogbs, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)
This is why I think under 16s shouldn't use Facebook accounts or mobile phones.
tbf most over-16s shouldn't, either. People are generally pretty terrible. #takethatannefrank

For a guy who has a fucking convoy of frog .jpgs following him whenever he posts something, surely you'd understand.
i always thought that you got special mod privelges or something for hitting 10,000 posts, only way this made any sense to me

i think VA just responded to me on reddit. i feel gross
mbrutsch 32 points 13 hours agoI mean, who's next??That is why other reddits are banning Gawker; not in support of me, but from disgust with Gawker, knowing they might be next.
roxymuzak 1 point 48 minutes agoThey could just stop posting stupid awful content.
mbrutsch 1 point 36 minutes agoThat would be a good idea.
― (♥___♥) (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:48 (thirteen years ago)
That tumblr just about sent me into convulsions. Jesus.

― bnw, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 16:55 (thirteen years ago)
i am so so waiting for mb to have a letter show up in gawker's unemployment stories.
― s.clover, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:02 (thirteen years ago)
HamNo would be all about that.
― controversial cabaret roommate (Nicole), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:06 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, predditors is anonymous. i assume published by an SRS regular. jezebel talked to her: http://jezebel.com/5949379/naming-names-is-this-the-solution-to-combat-reddits-creepshots
― 1staethyr, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:08 (thirteen years ago)
apparently published by 25-year-old female redditor named "samantha" via http://jezebel.com/5949379/naming-names-is-this-the-solution-to-combat-reddits-creepshots
― Anime Mann (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:09 (thirteen years ago)
oops
there's got to be a more constructive way to react to all of this than Anonymity Wars
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)
Dude wasn't anonymously modding and founding these threads though. He was doing it for the attention. This 'anonymous!' stuff might make logical sense if these people didn't care about their reputation as king of the trolls.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:15 (thirteen years ago)
are gawker's unemployment stories the longer version of the 99% signs the modern version of "dear penthouse, i never thought this would happen to me..." ?
― s.clover, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:21 (thirteen years ago)
no?

imo a big problem with all this is the mainstreaming and normalization of doxxing people which is a bannable offense on most forums on the internet (4chan included). even if a site like predditors does their due diligence and confirms that the people are in fact 'shitlords', nothing is really stopping trolls with a vendetta against someone to drop dox under falsified circumstances. with this behavior becoming more mainstream and acceptable, the risk is no longer confined to 4chan/hacking/other seedy communities on the net where you probably should've known better than to kick the hornet's nest.
that being said, i think VA was asking for it and received his comeuppance and predditors is probably an effective deterrent against this particular shitty behavior online for the time being. i just worry what the long term consequences are going to be for internet culture
― Anime Mann (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:43 (thirteen years ago)
feel like for better or worse the illusion of anonymity is gonna get shattered
― --bob marley (lag∞n), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:45 (thirteen years ago)
OTM: a good 95% of the ppl on the internet who think they're anonymous are not in any way, shape or form, and it's probably for the best that that illusion get shattered sooner rather than later
― The Owls of Ja Rule (DJP), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:46 (thirteen years ago)
getting a swat team to knock down the door of someone you don't like online has been a pastime for the hacking community for a long time. from what i read, the ease at which you can do this is kinda mindblowing
― Anime Mann (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:46 (thirteen years ago)
have politicians gotten their shit together re: online anonymity? it feels like it's been a good long while since someone's been scandalized out of office for something.

― (♥___♥) (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)
the whole thing reminds me of the whole perverted justice thing where they'd encourage people to post people's phone numbers online and on the streets and phone their parents and bosses directly in an attempt to shame them, because who's gonna feel bad for a would-be child molester right? and of course they didn't always wind up getting the right guy. sometimes it's more about the boner you get knowing you ruined some asshole's life than it is trying to put people to justice (by the way I'm really not defending this guy, he does deserve what he gets)
